Existential questions

  • Would you sell all, or part, of your collection in order to find your grail watch?

  • Or would you wait until you get your grail watch, and later consider reducing your collection?

  • Do you think that getting your grail watch results in a loss of interest in other watches?

  • Do you have a grail watch at all?

I often think that if I find my ideal watch I will lose interest in other watches and in any case I will no longer feel the need to try new watches 🙄

·

Yes, I've had my Grail for nearly 3 years. "Lesser" watches really don't appeal like they once did. Anything else in the collection competes for wrist time,so I have to make a conscious effort not to wear it all the time...

Im more of a strap collector now, it's far cheaper & I've got some worthy straps and bracelets now 😉👍

·

I don't really have much interest in super expensive watches. Sure, they're cool, and some are wonders of engineering and craftsmanship. But I don't have a need to own one. I like playing in the world of many attainable treasures.

Not applicable, not applicable, maybe, no.

...a grail watch do not need to be necessarily expensive tho!

Right, but that's what many people seem to mean. Some kind of platinum Rolex or fantastical Jacob & Co. solar system recreation. My grail is an evolving collection of interesting and attainable watches. At least for now.

I'm wrestling with that right now. If I set aside the sentimental watches plus a couple of daily beaters, and sell the rest it would mean I could get my 'grail' watch sooner and/or for less cash.

But every time I put one of them on, I think "Oh yeah, I liiiiiike you!" and thoughts of selling disappear.

·

Every watch is a grail for me 🤣

·

Have a grail watch, wouldn`t sell any part of my collection because even if there are impulse buys they reflect my watch collecting journey, prefer not to obtain my grail watch prematurely for investing years into this hobby makes your grail more meaningful

Would I sell all my watches to be able to get one Lange Odysseus? Yes, yes I would. The Lange is about 3-4x the value of my entire collection right now, so it would be a no brainer.

And I'd probably be a one watch guy for the rest of my life.

No no no Polar explorer II

for a moment I read "Polar Express 2" LOL

·

Any grail I might have would not be worth anywhere near what my collection is worth.

·

Reviving my grail watch has definitely decreased my interested in other watches although I still wear my top 3 a lot but not so much my ones other that those and actively want to sell them

·

Getting my grail watch has led me to look at more novelty or fun watches.

So I have 2 beaters: 1 dive and 1 field.

1 dress watch.

The grail watch.

Then fun stuff.

·

I’m in the midst of minimize and consolidating my collection to few key pieces, been trading some that I don’t wear as much for pieces that completes my sub collections…

·

I'm afraid to commit to buying my grail watch because I feel my tastes are shifting throughout this watch collecting process which I started this year. Plus, there are so many cheaper options to enjoy. The grail watch should be end game haha

·

No, would never sell my collection. I buy watches to mark important milestones/ events in my life. As I have grown older/ started making more money, the price of my watches have steadily increased ( which I think is a good thing). But looking at my watch box, Brings me back to all the memories and important moments in my life. That being said there’s always a watch I’m lusting over, right now it’s the BB54. But I’m sure once I acquire it, I’m probably gonna have a new watch to chase.

Welcome to the world of watches!

a dress watch, a grail watch, and a fun stuff... they can be the same watch

Ive sold a lot of watches and I really regretted some of them. I try not to sell any of the watches I own unless I dont wear it for over a year. I think there is a place for every watch

·

I’m lusting over the Ed White 321 Omega speedmaster I’m obsessed with it, but what’re you going to do. At least it’s not a limited release, they’ll make more when they sell them out, I’ll just wait til next year

Yes.

·

Honestly, I would still collect regardless if I have my one and true holy grail watch.

·

There are watches I know if I sold I would want to te buy later. Those I don’t sell. If I don’t feel that way I would certainly sell a watch to fund a future watch. Problem I have is there are a half dozen grail watches on my list…….. Bel Canto, moser pioneer, GP Laureato, JLC reverso, zenith Defy Skyline, and a Tudor north flag.

And since that’s around $45k with of watches I’m guessing I’m 3 years out from owning them all.
