Best GADA Watch for under $700?

What is your ideal GADA watch for under $700?

I'm not sure what the exact criteria for a GADA watch is but I would assume the following is what most forsee

38mm-42mm

WR 100 meters

Day-date/Date

Lume?

Bracelet

Neurtral dial color

Saphire crystal

Mostly, I keep staring at the Tissot Gentleman. But I assume there are better options out there.

It really depends on your sense of taste, the Tissot Gentleman is a great watch.

·

You'll get your Tissot PRX or the Gentleman recommendations. Maybe the Hamilton Jazzmaster.

My recommendation, mostly because I wanted one for myself, would be from a microbrand - Traska Venturer GMT. It's all sold out, but it's whole $5 under your budget (before taxes and s/h) if you could still buy it. Maybe one from the used market?

38.5 mm wide / 46 mm lug to lug / 10 mm thick / 150 m water resistance / Date at 6 o'clock / Lume (super luminova) / Bracelet / White (as neutral as you get) / Sapphire crystal

I do not own this watch and never owned a single Traska, so I cannot attest to their build quality or anything else. It just looks good to me. 😉

In general, $700 is a good place to look around to some microbrands.

The set of what amounts to go anywhere do anything will be so dependent on the person, that I’m not sure there is much carryover to different people. For me, in the mechanical world, it’s a rugged field or dive watch that has a date and is reliable and accurate. I’m fine with remembering time zone differences, so it would never be a GMT. I never dress up, so the cuff stretch or elegant aspect is lost on me. My GS diver is my current working GADA watch, but my Seiko diver (SRPE93) is a close second.

Where your watch can go and what it can do are largely determined by what you are comfortable with. While I have favorite watches for specific situations, I can rock any of my watches anywhere at any time because I’m a badass. Your mileage may vary.

Hamilton Khaki Field Auto

4̶0̶ 80 hours power reserve, beautiful dial, 20mm looks great on bracelet or strap.

I do like the Tissot Gentleman. I love the longer power reserve. My only close favorite is my Seiko Prospex. Good luck, tons great options to choose from.

·

Seiko Alpinist. Either the baby Alpinist or the 1959s. Lumed, falls within the sizes you picked out and best of all, 200m water resistance.

Don't worry about the price. Just look around, I'm sure you can find discounts easily.

I like khaki field and would like to own one one day. However lack of screw down crown make it not a GADA for me. If it had a screw down crown I’d buy one right away.

the metal bracelet on this one is incredible. If I has not got my Hamilton kakhi, I would probably buy it.

·

I was going to recommend the Hamilton Khaki that @88MilesPerHour recommended otherwise Certina are a good bet as a Swiss Brand, this DS Podium gmt in titanium matches your requirements.

Otherwise if you want an automatic and a screw down crown is a real dealbreaker the microbrand Boldr is probably a good bet. Their Venture line matches up well.

It's even better because the power reserve is 80 hours with the powermatic 80. Also it works on pretty much any strap if you take the bracelet off.

·

GADA to me requires 200m, I wouldn't swim with anything less. Plus it needs to be slim enough to fit under a shirt sleeve ofc, and rugged enough for the hills. Lume needed too, so it has to be an Alpanist if it's a Seiko. For me anyway 😁

There are a ton of options. I’m not sure if this helps or makes things more difficult lol.

1959 Alpinist reissue

·

Citizen Promaster Tough Ti Ray Mears.

Scratch resistant To, excellent matching bracelet, impeccable accuracy, great lume, perfect size, 300m wr (thank you monobloc), and meets all the rest.

Can be worn in the field, or dressed up with patent leather. 🤙🏻

Pick your poison any of these will do the job so well you are going to question why you would even buy any more watches. at least that's what these did for me

i luckily got one and can attest that this traska is amazing and frankly unbelievable for the price. That is also what I heard in various ADs in my city(which mostly sell watch brands from Mido to Jaeger) . I went to a few of them to get their opinions and what I heard was they cant believe this is only 700$ and it feels like a quality watch all around. I had one watchmaker guess the price and he told me it feels similar to a 2000-2500$ watch. I guess that says it all

I agree Traska is an awesome choice but I think the commuter is closer to being a GADA watch since a GMT is more or a specialized complication meant for certain jobs ect you get what I mean 🙂

Agreed. The second crown at the 10 pm spot does lessen the dressy feel of the GMT version.

My suggestion, Ball Fireman

No date and it’s solar quartz. But set it once - radio controlled and perpetual calendar - and then no more hassle.

You’re lucky.my Oceanus is always wrong time date etc.used to work in the past.Don’t know what happened.Trued everything.

Agree but no date.

The Commuter has both date and no-date options.

·

I daily a Traska Summiteer, which I highly recommend. But if you prefer a date I would take a look at the rest of the Traska lineup. My Traska also has the most comfortable bracelet I've ever owned (and also has a scratch resistant coating)!

Congratulations on the new watch. How is the scratch resistant stainless steel. I want to get one just to understand what that means.

Wow I'm late. haven't logged on in months🙃. It still looks brand new, not a single scratch
