Visually speaking, what is your favourite bezel material?

I couldn't find another poll that was done on this topic. Given the current demand for ceramic, this might end up being a landslide. I know ceramic is more durable, as are the recent spate of sapphire inserts, but I personally prefer aluminum. I like the low-key way the light hits it. I'm interested in the community's opinion on this, and whether you have a favourite example of that material being used.

I love a sapphire bezel.

Aluminium, but I do like stainless steel as well. Depends on the type of watch but for a diver Aluminium is the one for me.

Any favourite examples? I haven't seen many of them.

Serica's mix of all things. Love that half ceramic, half steel bezel they use.

I love a sapphire bezel.

I was under the impression that sapphire bezel was just a protection over the alu bezel, so the lume was protected. A full sapphire bezel I was not aware off.

·

Aluminium/Steel. I like the vintage look it gives for a watch and keeps the overall look of the watch subdued.

I also like the Seiko's TiC coated bezel insert which gives you a ceramic bezel look but plays more nicely with the light and is more interesting.

I am not a fan shiny ceramic really, to me it looks like plastic. I do have 2 ceramic bezel divers but one has a matte finish and the other is brushed. IMHO this gives more the appearance of aluminum but with the advantages of ceramic.

Most companies just call it a sapphire bezel, like Halios here.

Not sure if they actually combine sapphire and aluminum.

Brushed painted steel.

I think it all depends on the overall design of the watch.

I think eventually we will have ceramics that mimic most of the choices. We can already brush it (Oris, Tudor) and tungsten carbide (Omega) looks a lot like metal. Matt aluminium bezels are still "out of reach" but I can't see why no (should the demand be there).

Titanium or Tungsten 🤙

Fifty Fathoms for sure. Christopher Ward uses sapphire on the bezel of their Aquitaine as well, I love my Aquitaine.

Whatever my Fifty Fantoms Has.

There's no such thing as the patina on an aluminum bezel

I think a ceramic bezel is cool, but everytime I think about pulling the trigger, something holds me black. They are too perfect, too blingy.

Aluminum bezels scratch too easily for my liking.

Give me a stainless steel, recessed bezel, every day. Like the Rolex Yachtmaster or some Oris Aquis models. Love that look.

D, Other - I prefer watches without the Bezel click toy.

I love the CW Aquitaine with the white dial and green bezel. Definitely on my wishlist.

I really like brushed ceramic with some texture. It's tough but matte at the same time.

·

Vintage Bakelite!!! It’s warmth and and soft glow is unmatched.

I can't say I've come across brushed ceramic. Any examples?

Bling-iness is something I find myself avoiding in dive watches, as well. I decided against the Aquis and Hydroconquest just because of the polished sections of their bracelets.

For example San Martin SN012

Wow, wasn't expecting so many votes or such a close result. As predicted, ceramic definitely wins, but aluminum isn't that far behind.

My take is going to be Ceramic Bezel - it withstand scratch accident and great appeal from afar
