Sell your entire collection, buy one watch. But which one?

If you sold your entire collection today (for the general market value, estimated), what one watch would you buy with the proceeds, and would you actually do it?

The only rules are that you have to use the entire proceeds, +/- 10% or so.

For the money, roughly, I would probably pick up a Cartier Santos de Cartier, a watch that can go with any outfit, casual to dressy. However, I'm not sure that I would take that trade: I enjoy the pieces in my collection and it's difficult for me to wear the same piece day after day.

What about you?

I’d rather the collection I’ve created. I’m standing pat.

·

Me too. Staying with what I have

·

Interesting question. I started the process of selling almost all of my collection last fall. I've used the funds to rebuild it with brands or watches I hadn't paid attention to or committed to before. However if I had spent it all on one watch I would likely look at a Tudor Ranger or an Oris Propilot caliber 400.

·

If I sold my whole collection I'd have maybe 300.00, I'd buy a Casio surf timer.

·

The variety is what I enjoy. If I could only have one watch, I probably wouldn’t bother at all.

·

I love variety too much. l couldn't find just one watch to cover all my fashion styles.

·

Well, the truth is I like the collection I have and the variety, that being said, if I were to sell my collection to buy just one watch it would be this one.

Come on people, just play along. If I sold my collection and the watch was available, I’d buy an Explorer I.

·

There are a couple of people on here that if they sold their whole collection they couldn't buy just one watch using 90% of the money. There wouldn't be a watch available that costs that much. I'm happy with my eclectic collection. I wouldn't sell it. If I did I couldn't find an eclectic enough watch. Maybe a Jacob&Co. but it still wouldn't be eclectic enough. LOL 😂

·

An aquanaut. I basically did this before. Then I sold the aquanaut and another round of madness started. I love a field watch and I love a patek- so this is the pinnacle for me.

My collection is so small and has so little resale value I believe I could barely end up affording one piece of my current collection 😂

·

This.

·

I wouldn't.

But for the sake of playing, gun to my head, I'd swap the lot for either an Aqua Terra world timer or Planet Ocean and spend the change on straps

·

I wouldn’t get much for my whole collection but would a Seiko Prospex Speedtimer as it would just about fit all my needs.

·

Nah, I'm keeping my watches. I'm not looking for upgrades right now, weird, I know.

·

Nope. But if I did I would really struggle with the one watch. Maybe the Moser Streamliner but that's more than my collection would get preowned market

·

I'd never do this, but if I did I'd prob throw logic out the window and not get a one and done GADA type watch b/c the one watch I'd want with all that $$$ from selling my collection would be a Lange Saxonia Copper Blue with the aventurine dial. But . . . back to reality . . . even if I had that $$$ I wouldn't feel comfortable wearing a watch that expensive. I'd baby it too much. My comfort level as far as daily wear goes down, down, down after 8k.

A Rolex GMT white gold

·

Tough question, I bought most of mine on sale so I would probably be able to make most of my money back. The issue is I wouldn’t be able to buy anything with the proceeds except maybe a couple of Casio digitals 😅.

You think I’d be kidding but I couldn’t even rebuy my current G-Shock Square bec those are already going for over 2x on eBay (brand new) what I paid originally for mine.

·

Hard to judge what I could realise on selling the collection and the amount is a bit of a no-man's-land where there isn't much I like (so I would struggle to drop the lot on a single watch) but maybe a Ressence Type 1 Squared, H. Moser & Cie Vantablack or - on a good day - a Patek Calatrava.

·

Nope, keeping what I got. Memories are worth more than a new piece of steel

·

Pointless for me, I have the one watch I would buy 😎💪

·

I'd sell up and buy a blueberry (cookie monster). That blue bezel and stealth white gold would tick all the boxes for a one piece collection.

·

I didn't buy resale value. I bought interesting watches that I could afford.

·

OK I will play. I do not have that many watches. But if I sell I guess iw would raise about 5 grand (optimistic). I would buy a watch made the Jaeger and Benzinger.

·

I sold all i had and payed my Bills and bought me a 124270 … now im Fine. I dont ne more … only just for fun watches around 500€ to let the Hobby alive.

Those are gorgeous watches, very good and unique choice

Rolex Explorer 39mm, for sure

·

NO! Stop saying bad things!

I’m good thanks I have thinned out my Watch collection over the years , I wouldn’t sell my watches to go to one watch , that’s just a recipe for anxiety.
