Power Reserve Display

I love how the Ulysse Nardin watches come with a power reserve indicator. In 2023, and we are on the fly from day-to-day work, having a power reserve indicator helps. I really love the Marine stainless with a rubber bracelet. It's been an under-the-radar workhorse.

Is anyone else of the same opinion? What other brands have such an indicator? To my knowledge only RMs, UNN, Seiko and Grand Seiko do. Would love to see other options on this platform.

It would be great if other big brands would consider such options. Like Vacheron Constantin, Rolex, or even Tags.

Great watches here. Good point on the power indicator, it does make UNN stand out amongst the rest. Esp. when competition is so tough for makers these days.

That's one of main reasons I love my sbge253. It has a 70hr PW, which usually doesn't warrant an indicator, but I have a 3 to 4 watch rotation and it's really good to be able to track so i can give it a quick wind if needed (resetting a traveler's GMT can be a pain).

The best integration of this I've seen? Credor. They put it on the back of the movement, which you can see through a clear caseback. I even think the Parent company Seiko brought it down to some Grand Seikos too.

Love this. Thanks for the advice.

Citizen embellishes some of its high-end solar quartzes with one... nominally useful but I don't exactly understand the point when the brand advertises an 8-month power reserve. (Or maybe it's a way to constantly remind the wearer about the 8-month power reserve.)

I quite like the one on my E. C. Andersson.

Just a discrete indicator between the 9 and 10. Otherwise there’s a few Orient Stars that have them.

Or people who haven’t invested in one yet.

Awesome stuff. Thanks

I’m a huge fan of Power Reserve Indicators! I really wish many other brands would find a way to use them, even if on the case backs too.

Oris is starting to use them with their hand wound cal 400 movements and I think they’re great. Really wish my Aquis with the cal 400 auto had one too. When manually winding the movement it needs to stay closer to full wound and in order to a achieve that it’s over 200 turns of the crown. If you over wind there’s chance of damaging which no one likes :/ like you I wish these were more often seen and used by many brands!!

PR indicator is not a deal breaker for me, but I would prefer it on the back of the watch over the dial.

·

IWC Portuguese comes to mind.

What would a spring drive be without the power indicator?

the new GS evo 9s look awesome, and retain the power reserve on the back. I now get annoyed by watches that don't have a power reserve! 😉😂

·

If it is made proper it’s a plus. With proper i mean without disturbing the balance of the design. The Glashutte in @Crawford ’s example is a good one.

I like PR indicators on hand-wound watches, but not on automatics. I had an auto with one, but while I was wearing the watch every day, in rotation with 10 others, it would dip down to 90% or so by morning but be back up to 100% after I wore it for a couple of hours. It wasn't very useful.

I now have a hand-wound Nomos, and the unique PR is very cool, inconspicuous, but noticeable when it shows, which I like very much.

Not to be a hater, but PR indicator actually a deal breaker for me.

I think my next score has to have a complication even less useful - moon phase baby!

·

My Seiko Presage GMT has one, which is nice because I like to avoid having to reset it. I think Nomos has the coolest looking implementation of it ( there's a good example a couple comments up).

Appreciate the fact there is another UN enthusiast. One of my favourite brand, pure class in all aspects💪

I think Orient has a model or two with a power reserve indicator. As does Credor, although on the case back, not the dial.

I’m a fan of the power reserve indicator.

I really want a power reserve indicator (I once embarrassed myself with one of my manual winds running out and reading the wrong time out, despite a massive quartz wall clock being in view) but I think it clutters a dial up. On the back for me.

Not a fan. If a watch needs one put it on the back. It clutters up the dial and in most cases isn't that useful. It seems to make watches thicker than they need to be too.

A better spring drive?

I disagree with some posts above, but I actually think that the Power Reserve is a very useful complication.
