Is it the most underrated entry-level watch?

I'm just looking for a Casio watch to add to my collection, and I came across this famous Casio F91w wore by most infamous terrorists to most famous people such as Barack Obama. What do you guys think? Do I really need to care to bag one of them, or are there any alternatives to it? Please do share in the comments.

If we’re being totally honest depending on what you do for work and fun this will outperform any Swiss or Japanese piece that we all pine after.

If you’re rough and tumble a G-Shock will do anything you’ll ever ask of it

There are many functional alternatives, even at the same price. This just has the iconicism of being made with presumably no changes for 32 years and being worn by about 100 million people.

@casiodean will say that SKMEI has them beat in the modern arena.

·

I think it's one of the most overrated watches out there. It has one thing going for it, it's dirt cheap.

If you can afford it, spend a bit more, buy a nicer watch. Casio, Timex, and Armitorn all make lots of digital watches worth taking a look at.

Does it goes better to a 7 inch wrist !!??

I wouldn't say underrated, they basically have a cult following. I get the attraction, and they are cheap as chips, but I don't have one. My wife has 3 in different colours but that's mainly because they are functional and small enough for her tiny wrist. I would rather spend a few pounds more on a better Casio (or some other brand). The AE1200 World Time is a good example, but even an A158 or A168 is just a better looking watch with the same functionality imo. But we're taking about a £10 watch... so just get it and try it for yourself 😄

·

Or an A163 for about £20!

It appeals to our nostalgic side, but when you critique it, it's actually cheap for a reason.

It's not tough, nor is it designed to be.

Its too small for most people outside of their teens.

The back light is so bad it's unusable, making the W-86 with the Illuminator back light a much better option for a small amount more.

It tells the time and date, and is cheaper to replace than most watches in people's collections, but that doesn't make it the must have watch.

Personally, I see it as a very poor entry level watch that would make a nice gift for someone who doesn't know better (a young kid).

I await the onslaught... 👲

cheap is ok, but its pretty rubbish really.

spend another few hours wages and buy a G 5610u and get a much better all round watch which will also last decades, not need a cell change and benefit from radio syncing.

It is hilarious to me that my first watch, that I got when I was 8 in 2002, is a popular watch among enthusiasts. Image

You aren’t wrong, lmao. It was cool af when I was 8!

I would say it’s the plastic Casios, cheap Timexes, and funky Armitrons that got us used to (then hopelessly and irreversibly hooked on) wearing watches. My answer is everything offered at WalMart that has the potential to turn a human into a watch nerd. The Timex Ironman in my case.

·

I have a similar Timex ... albeit costs a few more shekels than the aforementioned Casio. Is the Timex Expedition Atlantis a better watch than the F-91W? Some might argue it is; I couldn't say ... The Atlantis though, does offer up some similar nostalgic vibes as the Casio as it too has its origins in the 80's/90's

I think you are spot on.

Its great as that first watch (depending on the age you are when you get it) and as a nostalgia piece. That's it. It's not God tier, AT ALL.

I got this a couple of weeks ago, it's a good little watch and definitely a step up from the F-91W. However I appreciate the fact that we all remember the F-91W fondly.Theyre both perfectly good choices providing you're not particularly hard on your watches.

I agree, and like others have said, there is a big nostalgic aspect to the F91W 👍

·

Is it underrated? It's almost universally cited as the go to example for a low-cost excellent watch. I'd wear mine more often if it didn't look so small on my wrist. But even though it doesn't get much wrist time I have no regrets buying it...I mean it cost me almost nothing when compared to any other watch in my collection. Hell, I drop enough money on a good watch book to buy a whole bunch of these watches.

·

Or get a MRW-200h or get both and still come in under $40. 😀

Underated??? Nah! Who doesn't want one of these in your collection 😎

I have a lot of Casio watches as a Casio enthusiast. The f91w is one of them or three now. Lol I think it's a great little watch for what it is. It is a little small on me but I wear it anyway when I feel like it because it is minimalist cool.
