Am I trolling?

Bored at work, scanning chrono24.
Looking at a few Rolex models I’ve been keeping tabs on and started to ‘suggest a price’. 😏

So I offered way lower than what they are advertised at but still over MSRP.
For example - 36mm DJ 2022 full set. Listed at £9,900. Retails at £7,300. My offer £8,000.

I did about 6/7 of these so let’s see how offended the flippers get 🤪

I don't think offering 10% over retail is trolling.

Offer them 3k.

·

I agree. I wouldn't even pay msrp for a used watch.

Flippers can go flip themselves.

·

Maybe we all ought to do it,they might get the message. Or it might manipulate the market, power to the people💪

Yeah exactly. I had one of them reply to ‘save up a bit more’ so I pointed out his/her listing has been there for 6months+ so take a hint.

I wouldn’t either. However, these watches are unworn full sets and truth is this is the way the Rolex game is. Like it or not but you gotta be in it to win it..

😅 problem is I‘m hoping one of these actually works. Even tho realistic it won’t.

·

Yeah prices have been steadily falling anyway. I’ve watched a few Pepsis (2022) drop from 20k+ and now in the low 17s over the past couple months. So I put in an offer of 13 (still 50% over)

I’m just showing them where the market really is as a consumer ready to actually buy one.

·

the price is whatever someone is willing to pay for it so bid away with no regard for feelings. it will either sell or keep losing value.

·

There is no trolling in a negotiation. You may surprise yourself and have an offer accepted.

·

I guess with the example you give (Listed at £9,900. Retails at C7,300. My offer £8,000) it will never be accepted.

Don´t forget that private sellers have to pay a 6,5% commission to Chrono24, so in your example it would be a 520 £ commission, what means that the seller would get 7.480...it´s like almost just the retail price.

I don´t know how much the commission is for professional sellers but on top of the commission they also have to pay a basic fee to Chrono24.

You have to keep these commissions in mind when you are offering...if you bid so low it´s just a waste of time and unrealistic wishfull thinking/hoping

·

I bid on a couple palm dials too 😂😅

I hear you. The commission structure is not my concern as a buyer tho. I make offers of what I’m prepared to pay. The rest is upto the seller.
I appreciate it squeezes the profits for the seller but some of these ads have been there for 6-9 months in my saved list. So clearly they are overpriced.
I’m open to a counter offer from them but until now I have not had one.

So true — same goes for the real estate market. House on the market for 6 months = too high.

·

<- This guy wants palm leaves on the dial 🙉

·

Risky business! You might end up with 6 or 7 datejusts

I don't think it's trolling, unless you didn't intend to buy anything.  One of the great problems with chrono24, I suspect, is that people who are less experienced with the platform (both buyers and sellers) think that the listed price is the market price, like the stock market.

It isn't.  It's like 10-15% lower.  So small time flippers put their watches up there at the Chrono24 suggested price and then wonder why it doesn't move while everything else around it does.  It's because everyone negotiates on chrono24 and the dealers that move significant volume on chrono24 are literally just listing at too high prices to fish for offers.

The fact that you can buy pretty much any "scarce" Rolex steel sports model unworn full sets any time (because so many are available on the secondary market) says we have more of a flipper issue than a scarcity issue.  I'm not sure how Rolex entering the flipper market (albeit used) will help (there is a perverse incentive for Rolex if they make more off of CPO watches than new watches as long as there is "scarcity").

Back to the question at hand.  Not trolling if you are ready and able to buy at the offered price.

·

It's not even close to trolling.

Wasting someone time is making him an offer at 10% market value. Offering above MSRP for a second hand watch is a very generous offer IMO.

Haha. They’ll be back on chrono24 for 20% on top the next day!
Just kidding. I’d happily keep 2 DJs. A green dial and a silver would be nice.

Yep thats exactly it. So many available yet they don’t seem to be selling. Hence me making offers which are fair to all parties and a deal can be done today. But the greed and delusion that these sellers think they will get 10-12k for Datejusts is ridiculous.

I’ve never done any buying/selling online or aftermarket. I’ve bought from AD and only ever plan to do so. This was more of an experiment to see how flexible these sellers are.
Having said that, I would buy at the prices I offered for a Rolex model I want so I’m not messing anyone around either

·

10$, take it or leave it.

I'm not sure what people are winning but hey if that's what you enjoy then go for it.

I just feel like the price is too high to begin with. And then you get the crappy service from the brand and having to jump through hoops and I just don't see the appeal at all.

·

Offer a San Martin homage in trade. Tell them you'll throw in a couple 😂😂😂.

·

Offer: $2500.. plus an older but functional Kenmore dishwasher, plus a framed picture of some mountains that one might see in a Motel 6, plus a cool piece of driftwood with minimal dog teeth marks!

Boom!  Sold!

All on board with trolling professional Rolex flippers. 😀

·

It is not trolling, but not sure how I would spend my time, but we all have different ways of blowing off steam.  What happens if 5 of them come back and accept your offer? That is what I would be concerned with.

Yeah the truth is I knew they wouldn’t accept my offers yet I still made them.  In my mind that’s a bit of trolling although not extreme

If they did accept them I’d happily buy the Pepsi and datejust 🙃

·

Offer less than retail , if everyone did this it would substantially kill the party and make the AD sit up and take notice . Damn
