4 Icons... 1 Loser; Friday Fights

A wealthy benefactor is willing to give you a 3 Watch Collection from the listed icons of the watch world. Conditions: All of your current watches would be forfeit to the benefactor. You could never sell/re-gift/trade any of the gifted watches. You have to live with the three remaining watches for the rest of your life. Benefactor will pay for servicing. You do get to choose the model/reference of the icons you receive. Ignore how impractical the conditions are, the original premise is just as ridiculous. Which of the 4 icons are you ditching forever and why? I debated on including Field & Pilot watches, but couldn't determine which of them were the most iconic. Feel free to educate me in the comments.

I'd ditch the Casio purely because I can't stand the idea of have 3 black watches for the rest of my life.

You could pick the model. The Speedy has other color options.

Yeah, I’d rather keep my current collection. But if I had to, I’d easily give up the Cartier. Not really a fan of those anyway, and dress watches tend to clash with Scooby Doo and Ninja Turtle T-Shirts.

·

I also would tell this guy to get lost but I still wish to vote against the Speedmaster as the only one here in which I have less than zero interest.

·

Casio may be GOD TIER but I would give up my collection for the other 3.

That's true but the OG is my favorite so I would chose a different one

Iconic Pilot watches:

Cartier Santos more like a dress piece now

Rolex GMT

Laco, Stowa etc.

Breitling Navitimer

Zenith, Breguet, Hanhart, MT Tissot etc,

Any Type XX

That's what I can think on top my head. There's many other like Longines, Citizen, Seiko but I can't think of any that got the iconic stamp and still being sold today.

·

I’d keep my current collection. Nothing listed above does it for me.

·

There ought to be a badge of infamy for inane polls.

·

It’s easier to dress up a diver/chrono than it is to dress down a Cartier/dress watch

·

Any single one of those luxury brand watches would exceed the cost of my roughly 100 watch collection.

I'd ditch the G-Shock, just because I'm "meh" about them (except the metal ones). I'd be happy with just a Rolex, Omega and Cartier.

OR WOULD I?

Of the four, I'd ditch the Cartier. Looks like a grandfather clock on the wrist to me. I'm sure I'll change my mind someday. The Speedmaster makes me want to try harder in life. The Submariner makes me feel like I've already arrived. The Casio makes me feel like a kid. The Cartier makes me feel like I miss my Apple Watch.

·

Ditched the Cartier cos I don’t dress up. Even if I do, I can go all James Bond and wear a sub with my suit.

·

No date sword hand milsub on an modern Oysterflex for a beater, a Nautalis jumbo 5711 for dress and a Green Streamliner Chronograph, for brutal redbar domination😊 Thanks mate, I really would be done

Your approval is welcomed

He obviously ain't BENE FACTORING in the time and love I have for what I've collected. No thanks.

I really have tried to like the tank but it just doesn't appeal to me. I respect it for what it represents horologicaly but I would never wear one. Square or better said rectangular watches in that vein make me want to 🤮. I have one that is similar in styling that was a gift and it's even engraved with my initials and I never wear it.

I think we all have one icon we can appreciate as being horologically important but just don't vibe with.

Appreciate your vote & reply

Assuming no other watches can get added to the collection, I’m going with the Rolex Sub (or divers in general). Although luxury divers are rated (and even made) for diving/acitivities, my wallet isn’t big enough to justify a diver watch with no complications when plenty of casio (beaters in general) watches can do the same and wouldn’t bother me if they get scratched to hell or break.

If I’m able to add more on my own dime, I’d choose the Casio as I could always get another/there are plenty of watches that could fall under the beater category. I’m not sure I’d buy a Sub, but if could have one for free, I’d gladly take one and wear it.

·

My love for G-Shocks will not allow me to vote it off. I did have a college professor that I hated who wore a Cartier. So, that one I can eliminate any time, any day, and in any poll.

·

Interesting rationale, but I can respect the petty.

·

I’d ditch both the Casio and Omega. Would keep just the other two - a Sports watch that would dress up nicely, and a Dress watch that would go semi-formal at a moment’s notice.

·

If these were the only three watches I could ever wear, I would dump the Cartier. As beautiful as it is, I’d never wear it because I just never dress up to a level that would do justice to it.

If I could buy other watches, clearly I’d jettison the G - and then just go out and buy another one. Don’t think I could go through life without a G-Shock…

·

Goodbye Cartier.
