Too young for a Gold Rolex ?

What’s the first thoughts when a somthing year old walks into a room with a gold Rolex on the wrist ? If like most people you think “huh is that real” you wouldn’t be far wrong. Since I saw the 1803 day date for the first time in my local Watch store I knew one day in the future I had to have it. In my head I thought I would be in my 50s, grizzled and able to pull it off with some miles stones behind me. But the obsession was too stong and after a stepping stone of a Tudor 94613 Dateday, I picked one up befour my 29th birthday in Tokyo. Since then I’ve worn it everyday, but still I get … “that’s a lot of gold for your age” I know I shouldent care, but are certin watches just too gold or not right for a certin age group ? Lobe to hear your thoughts !

My grail!

·

Maybe it was a watch that was handed down and has sentimental value.

·

What matters is whether you like it or not.

The gold leather combo you have works very well

·

I usually think 'no taste / individuality'

·

It's a beautiful watch. If you're a flaunter, you're too young. If you love the watch for what it is, you're never too young.

·

I'd say eff that noise, mate. If you have it, wear it.

Go for it!

·

Its a funny old thing with gold watches. As a general rule I do not like them, I prefer yours to the bi-colour gold silver, but every so often a gold watch just works. Yours certainly does, well done and you sound very happy with it.

·

Tell them it is a fake :)

·

Talk with a British accent. They'll totally buy it ;-).

·

You're an outlier. I was closer to your initial projection before I embraced the gold. It's more of a demographic preference thing than anything else. That and just having the maturity to be confident in it.

·

Wear it proudly and don't give a F what people think. If I see you wearing that watch I would praise it and get the watch talk going

Unless the person is of a vintage to have bought it many years ago my first thought is "this person is interested in vintage, but they must love the Rolex brand as vintage Rolex is mega-expensive, Rolex designs have become so ubiquitous and vintage offers so much variety".

I'd say talk with an American accent - look at relative income per capita, many more Americans can afford a vintage Rolex than Brits ;)

You do you!

Going by that logic he should be talking with an Irish accent, which is higher than both 😉

·

Nah you are all good with that one. One day when you are in your fifties and someone ask about your watch you can proudly say that you have enjoyed your grail watch since the age of 29! 🔥

·

As someone who has been retired since age 31, and am now 60, I guess my Two Tone Datejust fits me just fine. And no one comments on my watch, which is just fine with me.

I like your watch, but I’m a geezer compared to you!

·

A simple rule of my life with regard to watches....If you can afford it and love it... Wear it...

·

Timeless 🤌

·

I would probably think is that your dad's old watch

·

Gold is “in” from a fashion sense, and often is - it’s especially wearable on leather too!

I have a 1803 as well, but often wear it on a strap and buckle combo. If you haven’t already, make sure to buy the gold spring bars from your local Rolex dealer (have them order it), you don’t want to wear out those lugs or widen the holes! They can order a buckle too!

wear in good health!

·

What do I think? Honestly, I think it's not a very 'young person' kind of watch, so it's generally going to look out of place. I also ponder which relative died and willed it to them. Stuff along those lines.

But ultimately, if they're happy wearing it, great. Non watch people won't notice it anyway.

I wore one for some months when I hit 40. Was great watch in the sun.

Rather than the gold/ old man issue - my biggest problem was feeling I might be stretching the band. So having yours on leather is a good call.

·

That looks fantastic. Wear it in good health.

·

Enjoy both the watch and your youth without reservation as one will certainly be fleeting. 👍

·

Enjoy the crap out of being young and wearing an amazing watch! People ask or tell me my watches are fake all the time. Yes, it bothers me as I hate fakes. I do enjoy replying every time with " You're pure North American Peckerwood or Trailer Trash?"

That’s how I feel, it’s the Horology not the glitz and glam.

So true !

Thats the perfect version of a FU watch at your age ! Enjoy it :) btw at 50 I see that now as young and crusty to me now is 80 😂

You may get condolences for the death of your relative whom you’ve inherited it from most likely if anyone says anything at all …..
