As I promised some of you, I would post some pictures as soon as my new 1964 Seiko 5 Sportsmatic birth year watch arrived. And today it did, here's how she looks. Gorgeous is the one word that comes to my mind.
The seller was fantastic and the packaging as can be seen was excellent, no damage in transit whatsoever. The little beauty was happily ticking way when I unwrapped the parcel and so I quickly set the time and date, changed out the aftermarket bracelet and put it on a vintage style leather strap. I do have a original 19mm Seiko bracelet somewhere buried in my collection of straps and parts but I couldn't be bothered and just wanted to get the watch on my wrist.
The watch has some surface marks and light scratches here and there, but hey, it's as old as me and I'm no oil painting so we suit each other perfectly. The dial is great and so is the crystal, the functions of the watch work like it was new and so far the time is spot on.
So what do you think, was it worth the hours of endlessly searching and looking at hundreds of different watches? Not that it's out of the norm for me anyway, I look at watches or guitars every chance I get ๐
Hope your all having a great day, mine just got that little bit better ๐

Cheers Mr Timex, we'll have to get a Seiko on your wrist one day. And yes, 1964 is a great vintage ๐คฃ๐๐ป๐ป
Awesomeness ๐. ย I need to find something I love from โ70
Is the caliber inside original as well? ย
'Sportsmatic' -- sounds like a vintage tennis ball thrower. Absolutely sublime!

Mr. Badger, I understand your affinity for Timex as it's steeped in pin lever goodness. Do you entertain the idea of adding another brand with glorious history to your repertoire?
I am another child of 1964 and I very like your watch! I have never considered a birth year watch before butvthis has got me thinking! Great watch!
Congratulations! What a beauty!!ย
that seller is great but 24$ a pop for shipping to the US ๐ญย

100% The Caliber/ movement number 7606A inside is genuine and matches the dial and case numbers, plus I don't doubt the sellers honesty, he's a great guy.

Yeah some of his watches include free shipping but not all unfortunately, he is very approachable though so maybe try contacting him as I did and do a bit of haggling. It never hurts to try and the worst that he can say is no, true?
Sweet and gorgeous indeed! Enjoy!ย
I hope that I am old enough someday to appreciate a watch that nice.

One day young fella you may just make it.ย
Just stay away from that Omeganut bloke, he's a bad influence. Rumour has it that he's now getting into Quartz watches.
When will this total disregard for the watch community end?ย
Amazing piece. Congrats on the purchase!
Mate that's gorgeous. Similar vibes to the recent King Seiko reissues, and I love the bi-colour date wheel. Looks in fantastic condition too. A lifetime keeper for sure!
Awesome!!!! Enjoy I love it
