Watch collecting is an addiction. . .

Watch collecting, plus a mild case of OCD and throw in a bunch of other mental illnesses and sometimes I come here to sort it out. FYI, not making light of mental illness. The problem I had when I first started was my addictions, to food and other legal substances, along with depression, put me in a buying frenzy and when it was over, I felt like a meth addict who was tweaking. However, the end result was the cute little Timex museum I now have in my basement, which I am quite fond of. Now that I got through the other side of my bender, the problem I see myself having now is too many affordable watches and selling them is not really wroth it. So, I'm putting this out to the watch crunch universe. I will stick to some sort of rotation and make sure all these affordable beauties get worn. My question is should I do a week on the wrist or a day on the wrist. Please don't say do what you want to do, as you can see my mind is not my own right now. lol. Good day fellow addicts.

P.S. Apologies for the bad grammar and run-on sentences. I am a product of being raised by a poor family, public school education, bad neighborhood and no college. lol. True story.

Why limit yourself to just one a day or one at a time? You have two wrists, and surely more than one would fit on each arm at a time! 😂

·

Hmmm... Depends on how many you have in your museum/collection? If it's under 52, I'd do a week, if it's over 52, I'd do a day.

·

I use humor and a healthy dose of GIFs and Memes to soften toll of this hobby we share. In all seriousness, having structure is helpful in managing these situations. Either wear one watch a day on the same day of the week, or one a week would work. But also give yourself some flexibility depending on the activities you're going to have. For example, wearing a dress watch with a leather strap out to the beach might not work for you.

·

Ooh, I have seen your watchmuseum. It’s fantastic! With that amount of watches I suggest to wear each watch 1-2 days. Otherwise it will take a year between wears.

·

Think it's better to rotate it each day and make you see how many watches you actually have and like

100% agree with humor. I like to think it's my superpower!

I get it my friend… I wish I have perfect regimen for you, talking about it and having Watchcrunch as a release, I find it a starting point… I struggle with this same issue as of late, I’m still a work in progress … perhaps we should grab a beer one of these days 🍻

·

Rotate daily. I couldn't imagine going a week just wearing 1 watch!

·

Combo - 1 a day for a week and the best one for that week gets a week, then do the pattern again.

·

We all choose our rotation differently. I have 15ish watches, some are definitely weekend watches and some are everyday ones, a few are once a month or more ! 2 are special occasion watches. I choose a different one everyday, usually on just a whim. At the moment going for my 90 wruw badge, after that who knows ! I am not always right in my choice but it's my way, you will find yours and looking forward to seeing your way Stephen.

·

Unfortunately or fortunately depending on your perspective I have no agenda. Usually I stare into the boxes until I choose a watch . No plan no lists no objective criteria.

·

One per day.

·

@TimexBadger Thanks for sharing your story Stephen! You have a roof over your head, food on the table, clothes on your back and by the looks of your profile picture - A man cave of collections. You're doing well and better than 80% of the world population. Continue to stay strong, positive and focused.

In regards to the question, if you have an opportunity to change out your watches throughout the day you'll stay in love with them lol 😆. I normally choose one in the morning for the office and when I come home I change it out for the evening/night.

Stay Hungry My Man 🤙🏽

Your journey with watch collecting and navigating personal challenges is both inspiring and relatable. It's impressive how you've turned these experiences into a passion, culminating in your very own Timex museum. Regarding your rotation dilemma, why not start with a 'day on the wrist' to reconnect with each watch's unique appeal, then move on to a 'week on the wrist' for those you're particularly drawn to? This way, you get to enjoy variety and depth in your collection.

Also, you mentioned concerns about grammar and your background. You might find tools like ChatGPT helpful for checking spelling, grammar, and punctuation. It's a great resource for refining your writing, and it can handle a wide range of questions, adding another layer to your toolkit.

Your insights and story add valuable perspective to our community, irrespective of your background. Cheers to the joy and discovery in our shared passion!

Day

·

For week 1. Wear a different watch everyday. That’s the only rule. You can’t repeat what you wore yesterday.

For week 2. Wear unique watches every 2 days. You can’t repeat what you wore last 2 days.

For week 3 - make it 3 different watches in a row.

Continue to increase one more different watch per day every week.

Make a log wither through the WRUV section of the app or jot it in a logbook.

See which ones you are naturally gravitating towards more. They’re all your babies, but when you have a rule, and a pattern you will feel differently about each one and your relationship with the timepieces will evolve.

Hope it brings some insights and joy to this watchful journey. 🙂

Cheers. And GoodLuck!!!!

Like this, it's like a game and will be in compliance with my OCD. lol

Thanks everyone who gave great advice on my first world problem. lol. Hey it helps me from dwelling the real problems in the world, which I personally think is why hobbies like this are so beneficial

·

Dude, admitting where you are is step one. Reading your post was like reading an entry in my journal it sounded so familiar. I recommend one day on the wrist and rotate through them all. Best of luck to you. You may DM me literally ANY TIME and I’ll hit you back!

·

I wear many different watches daily!

·

I wear one a day according to my spreadsheet. I find if I'm not organised about it then certain watches may note get worn. Quite often though I will sway watches for the last few hours of the day.

Yes, watch enthusiasm can be an addiction. The thrill of finding a watch you really like and then awaiting it's arrival is pure excitement. I review watches, so in order to keep my channel going I have to flip them on a regular basis.

I love this hobby. My watch hobby started a week or two after I lost my best friend. I found a watch I wanted as a kid, or at least a very similar one, a G-shock on a watch forum. I dove in because it distracted me from a level of grief that I had never experienced. It has kept me occupied and going thru the worst period in American history since the civil war and a pandemic. It has kept retirement which came about the time all the garbage in my life started from crushing my soul.

My collection really got going during the pandemic because I was isolated by myself for months and I had the internet, a computer and a credit card. LOL I too feel my "collecting" got out of hand a little but I really do like all of my watches and they are mostly all reasonably priced watches.

I have really enjoyed this site since I got active here. I have started posting a watch a day in WRUW. I often swap watches during the day at times depending on my mood or what I am doing. I started planning my watch week with my calendar app on my phone where I keep up with every thing else. it is a diversion and not intrusive as I plan the other events of the week or coming week. I really enjoyed the tour of your museum!!

·

Hey Steve, this was really awesome. I'm sorry for the loss of your friend. I really related to your story. It really shows the power of a hobby and how it distracts you from stuff that is just too heavy at times. Thanks for this very poignant reply. I really enjoyed reading it!!

New watch each Day.. or 2 to 4 watches a day if you’re in a bad place.

I was mentally unglued a couple weeks ago (stress and sometimes sadness from my job) …and swapping watches every few hours was a fun meaningless diversion.

I don’t have addiction issues like yourself (watches maybe, but never drugs).

My 0.02 is that collecting timexes is a million times healthier than cigs/etoh/drugs/ etc., no comparison

I think you’re in a great place my friend.

(BTW - please hit ‘reply’ if answering, so we all get notice of any response)

Thanks Alan for the kind reply and solid advice. Timex is way healthier. lol. One day at a time and looking forward to the future.

I feel I am in a similar situation to yourself. With relatively small watches particularly, which a lot of yours appear to be, I would suggest double wristing, i.e. one on each wrist. I do it a lot..... even outdoors sometimes 🙂

Hope whatever you do works out for you. 👍

Thanks Ian, I tried double wristing, but it didn't work for me. I felt it took away from the watch and my identity of a working guy from the 60s. lol. Yeah, I know it's weird. Thanks for weighing in.

We are who we are and I respect that.

Your Timex museum is very impressive. My poor vintage Timex watches have to make do with 5 drawers of an A4 paper filing cabinet and the modern one's are in a common all garden watch box!

Cheers my friend. 🤝
