This AD is Killing Me!

First time ever through the doors, they sold me a Rolex. Then I went to see if they had the new Tudor Black Bays, and they had just received three different models. I bought one. Today, I went in to drop something off, and they just received a new green Cartier Santos! I was able to control myself this time, because it’s been less than five months since I bought the Rolex. They almost had me a third time!

It is very nice though, could you sneak it in?

·

As I walked into the store I said to my wife who was with me, “Maybe we can buy you a Cartier this time.” But she wasn’t interested.

·

Mate, u have rolex. No need for this cube ;D

·

I’d have made it a trifecta 😂😂😂

·

I feel happy for your sales rep. An excellent customer

·

You’re better than me, I wouldn’t be able to control myself lol

You performed your due diligence, please proceed with the Cartier purchase for yourself.

I like your AD. I like the Santos better than Rolex or Tudor, but I'm weird like that.

This is what happens when your first automatic watch is a Rolex. I wanted to start with a Hamilton or Tissot, move up to a Longines, then maybe a Tudor. Instead, a Rolex fell into my lap as my first watch. My whole game plan has been turned upside down!

Not weird. I can see that

·

Does your AD know they're doing this backwards? Congrats! Just saw the Green Santos myself and it's beautiful.

Rolex and Tudor are fantastic, but for me, Cartier has always been the pinnacle of class. Others may disagree but I can't be dissuaded.

·

Enjoy the Rolex DJ and Tudor BB! Cartier can wait as those two are already more than amazing to have.

·

The ADs caught a big fish and is holding on for dear life😂

·

Wow, that's impressive

·

The green looks really nice!

The green looks really nice!

I had to take it next to the window. Without the right light, it looks a lot darker. I like it in both lights though

·

I see one of the old tricks in play, 'We just received...' which is second in the sales playbook to, 'We just had an order cancelled...' both of which are designed to trigger the, 'I need to act now!' lever in the brain.

·

All great watches but the Santos stands apart. I don’t envy the pressure you’re under but do post us when you buy it!

I saw them take the BBs out of the boxes they were shipped in. Today they didn’t have any of the new ones. Also, when I was there two weeks ago, they hadn’t received a green Santos yet. Finally, every time since the Rolex purchase that I’ve been in the store, I ask if they have any Rolexes and the answer is sadly no, so I do believe I got lucky each time.

If you go Santos go Medium No Date.

All three watches are so hard to see in person and/or buy at retail. Score on so many grails so quickly 🤘👏

But yeah , my first ‘collector’ watch was about 100 bucks. My priciest watch as a 4 decade long collector now is about 9k.

So you need to budget about 90x the cost of your Rolex to keep things in scale.

But maybe your income is about 90x bigger than mine, so NBD!

Nice thing is options like Jacob and Co make that 90x possible 👌😃

The great thing about starting a collection late in life is that all college tuition has been paid and we are now empty-nesters. Also, I don’t have any car payments (my wife drives a 2000 and I drive a 2011) and my 30 year mortgage is long paid off. All that being said, I started with my most expensive watch. All new watches will seem cheap in comparison.

Agree completely!

I wouldn’t of been able to walk away from that Cartier 😂

·

C'mon.... you know you really want to....

Cartier Santos are amazing, seems to be a family thing. My older brother purchased a two tone Santos after his first few pay checks working as the lowest grunt in an architectural firm in the late 1980s. His widow now wears that iconic watch. A few years ago I purchased a Santos 100 to remember my brother, picked up the newer Blue dial Santos that was introduced to considerable fanfare. The colour dials are great but I keep thinking a Cartier needs to have the classic white dial with the Roman numerals. I sort of regret buying the blue dial.

Speaking of family, it was my brother who got me thinking about watches in the first place when he showed me his Cartier Santos! He has the large blue dial.

I recognise your illness, at times it can be debilitating.

You'll loose sleep, your money will dissapear. Your wife/partner may even fall out with you.

I dont think there's a known cure, however I find the only remedy is to go buy a new watch.
