NWA: “Honey I killed my collection”

The ultimate Go Anywhere Do Anything watch finally on my wrist after months of research, consideration and market monitoring!! My first true Luxury watch. The most affordable Grand Seiko out there, locked and loaded to basically render any watch collection obsolete. This is the new benchmark against which any watch in my collection and my future collection will be compared against. And they might probably lose the comparison.

I was shaking during the unboxing, peeling layers off this delicate Grand Seiko packaging to find a watch that, since it was last set, it has lost/gained a total of ZERO seconds when checked against the atomic time on time.is. 9F movements eating COSC certificates off a bowl as an afternoon snack.

Want precise timekeeping? Get this watch. Want a watch that will perform during your morning routine, on the public transport commute to work, during the day in the office, during the drinks after hours, on the commute back home? Get this watch. Want a piece that can be worn to a club or to a funeral? Get this watch.

In depth review coming eventually, once I’ve had time to bring it to my AD to remove a half link. Got this stunning pre-owned exemplar in Chrono24 from somebody who took great care of this watch and there are just a couple of minor scratches, that will make the pain more tolerable once I inevitably put the first scratch on it.

Great watch my friend 👌can't go wrong.

Thank you for the post! It makes me look forward to mine. Should hopefully be arriving from Japan next week.

·

Congratulations on your new watch Daniel! 100% agree on the GS being the ultimate GADA not just by its design but also by its highly accurate tech.

I was just at a boutique to try this on this weekend, it surprisingly wears bigger than at first glance because of the male end links (eyeballing it, it looks around 48 maybe 49 true lug-to-lug). Absolutely gorgeous in real life with an inky black dial and highly polished silver marks. I’m considering this as my first luxury watch too 🤞🏻.

Hope the wait doesn’t feel too long!

Congratulations mate. Stunning watch!

·

Was thinking about this or Tudor as my EDC. Tudor won but only slightly! :)

Congratulations on the new watch! 😎

I got offered this model at the AD where I tried it first on. They were ready to knock off a 20% off the retail price of it. I ended up going pre-owned as the deal was better as it was from a private seller. Maybe you can get a good deal from them too if you want to get it at the boutique.

·

Coming from an existing owner, I can vouch for your claims 😆 congratulations, enjoy it 🫡

The guy at the boutique mentioned he could give me a deal on the price, I guess I’ll find out more when I go back. Sounds like you got an even bigger discount by going pre-owned, honestly, with a solid movement like the 9F quartz, I’d be willing to go pre-owned too. Double congrats are in order: first on the beautiful watch and second on scoring a good deal on it! 👏

·

Saving up for one, year or so to go. I want the quartz also, as its next level.

·

Outstanding. Grand Seikos MUST be experienced in person. The website photos CANNOT do the dials and polishing justice.

·

Congratulations. Great looking watch. enjoy.

·

My champagne gmt quartz is my GADA. Welcome to the club! You will love it!

Absolutely. Even the lighting in my flat is not really making this watch shine as it should. It will look stunning on a sunny day though!

I have a 16 cm (6.3”) wrist. The watch is 37 mm but it wears slightly larger than that due to the wide lug tips. I really started liking this size seeing how well the Seiko 5 SNKL23 fit my wrist.

6.5" here and SNK809 hardcore fan, unbeatable fit, Thanks for the post and the info, makes me want the watch even more! Sorry for pestering but last Q, what about the dial color IRL? Inky, matte, changes with light, etc? Thx!

No worries! The color is very matte, very “dead”. Not a single trace of sunburst or similar. It does change with light from pitch black to dark grey, but its main function really is highlighting the indices and the hour hands. A bit the opposite of most GS, which have these stunning dials.

I had this watch and sold it. Mega sellers remorse. It's a stunner and even better in quartz in my opinion.

·

It’s a beauty. I’ve been shopping for GS quartz myself

·

Love black dial

·

Lovely and classy

The only thing it's missing is a GMT function. I'm sorry. But in 2023 the go anywhere do anything watches can be Grand Seiko. For sure. But there is no more functional or useful go anywhere do anything watch that doesn't have 2 things.

  1. Water Resistance of at least 300 ATMs

  2. A GMT function

Say what you will. But our phones have the time. Yes a watch is easier to glance at. But in all honesty. They are just jewelry unless you can take them places you can't take a phone or serve another useful function at a glance that your phone can't without pulling up several menus to see world times.

If my watch can't go with me on a boat or beach, keep power longer than my phone and tell me what time it is at home in a simple glance. It's not a go anywhere, do anything watch.

Change my mind.

100 percent It’s the one I always reach for… and warms my cold heart every time I see the dial in the day light.

I would have sure loved a GMT function on it, but that would come with more dial and bezel “clutter”. The simplicity in this dial was very attractive to me. Also, there’s similar models available from GS with GMT functionality but they’re all packed in larger cases. However, for me, a case of 37 mm was a non-negotiable, as the majority of GS are just too large for my slender-ish wrist. Water resistance? Not so much. I have dive watches already for the rare occasion I venture in a swimming pool.

I guess we can put an asterisk to GADA* and say that’s Go Anywhere, Do Anything in my lifestyle.

Did you get it from a Japanese site like Sakura watches or someone on eBay? I just started looking more at GS lately lol

I actually ordered from Topper Jeweler! I love doing business with them because they take trades.

Oh that’s right! I think we talked about that. I’m going to that part of the Bay on the weekend maybe I can just bring my watches and get a live assessment. They are pretty legit. Lucky to live not too far from them.

·

My SBGX263 hasn't gained/lost any time since I got it. My only gripe at the time was that the bracelet was either too tight or too loose. But just this week I added a full link back in and took out a half link, and now it fits perfectly.

Honestly I could see this or the SBGX261 being perfect for a one watch collection.

·

Simple, elegant, sharp. Congratulations 👏

Damn reading this back... What a prick I sounded like. Your watch is great. Lol I don't follow my own logic. I have a Black Bay with no GMT. I think the difference is that I don't think it's an everyday, go anywhere do anything watch.

And I do believe that the most useful feature and complication is a GMT. We have so many reasons these days not to buy a watch. Well, you and I don't. We're absolute nerds and are going to anyways, but for the average Duke and Dawn out there.

Def sorry if that came off a little jerky. I'm just very passionate. I really love the Grand Seiko GMTs and I think this one is beautiful too.
