What approximate percentage of your collection is China origin?

Loose definition here, assembled in China in some cases with movements from Japan or elsewhere. Looking at my collection it is about 25% mostly from microbrands that I love.

Wouldn’t be surprised if it’s a 100% given my budget collection

·

I don’t I have any in my collection and I’m not looking for any right now. I can’t say never. You can never say never.

·

Right now my collection is almost entirely assembled in Japan. But, as soon as my cache of Pagani Design comes in, that percentage is gonna skyrocket!

·

Think the only watch I own that has Chinese parts is my Studio Underd0g, which uses a Seagull movement.

·

Thanks for the definition saving the needless trip down the rabbit hole of debating exactly how much Chinese sourced parts or assembly can be included in an officially labeled "Swiss made" watch (I think the answer is between A and B).

Unless my Seiko 5 is assembled in China (very possible but I think it is more SE Asia), I'm an A but I'm looking at 2 Microbrand watches so . . .

·

Got me curious, so a quick pivot table later. This is based on where the watch companies are based out of. Eventually, I will add origin of movement to my spreadsheet, but quickly looking at it it would be overwhelming Swiss, Japanese, and German.

I think the Seiko 5 is the only watch bought for under $100 this century that isn't Chinese movement. Were I to exclude the vintage half, I'd be closer to the halfway point than the quarter mark.

Definitely didn't want to split hairs on this one because it really is one big gray area.

This is pretty cool, I didn't go into this much detail when coming up with my number.

I have to keep a database for insurance purposes, so every now and then I get bored and add new columns with data points.

·

This is quite tricky. Many materials like metals and machinery to make watch parts can be Chinese. For Swiss 40% still a lot of foreign materials. As for the USA I think most brands hide the details.

Don't really care, too much emphasis placed on country of origin as some imaginary arbiter of quality.

I buy the watches that I like the look of and desire. Branding and country of origin are very much secondary considerations.

·

Just have a Seagull. My Seikos are either made in Japan or assembled in Malaysia.

·

It's hard to say for sure but based on the facts when the sellers claim that the parts were made in the origin country as they claimed and let's say I trust them then from the three watches I have I would say that Tissot is Swiss made. Although I'm sure that some parts were imported but doesn't have to be necessarily imported from China so let's assume that, but in order for them to have the Swiss made sign, 60% should be Swiss origin I think. The second watch I own all parts comes from Switzerland, I have verified it. The third is namokiMods parts, so except for the movement, which is Japanese but it's my guess only based on good quality and reliability of that movement, I would say that everything else is probably from China so all together I guess I can fit somewhere below 50% but over 25% for sure

·

Surprisingly only 16% and I'm more than happy with all of them.

·

Percentage is probably hi with my collection being more on the affordable end and that totally fine with me.

·

Err, I have 4 Swiss Made quartz watches, 1 UK quartz, 4 Swiss Made automatics and a Hong Kong automatic with a Japanese movement.

So to answer your question, some?

·

25% or less but atleast 50% russian

By that definition actually very few, in fact there is only one watch. (I haven't fully traced the supply chain of the Scameti iCon yet.) A good chunk of my watches were assembled in Japan, but the majority has been assembled on a desk in my bedroom. Movements came almost entirely from China based on Japanese designs. I own one Swiss watch.

·

3 Casios, 1 San Martin, 1 Sugess, and 1 Pagani Designs. I’m assuming the Casios are made in china.

·

3 of my watches, being from Chinese brands (Cronos, Phylida, and Tandorio) are definitely Chinese. It is highly likely that a fourth, my Zelos, while a Singapore based brand, is also of Chinese origin. The rest of my pieces have Japan and/or Swiss Made on the dial, so while they may use Chinese components (bracelets, especially), I don’t consider them Chinese.

·

Japan 💯

·

Hopefully A. I don’t have any Chinese watches yet but I don’t know to what externt my brands using sub contractors including Chinese.

·

About a third of my watches are made in China but this includes two or three Casios along with a Timex, in addition to Chinese brands such as Steeldive, San Martin and a Pagani Design.

·

I mean.. does this take into account manufacture? Because if so, most companies outsource to asia

IMHO if the watch is marked Swiss Made, Made in Germany, Made in Japan etc… then it doesn’t count.

·

Honestly probably like 90-100%

·

I don't have any Chinese watch for now. Not that I'm not open to it. I know many of big brands will get some parts from there so it's certainly for a reason. I'm just not attracted to the pagani San Martin etc. Maybe one day I'll have another perspective.

I didn't either until the microbrands started about 10 years ago and now I have quite a few.
