My experience with the Ranger is similar to yours. I ordered it immediately but second guessed myself for awhile. It sat in the box for a few weeks while I contemplated selling it while they were still hard to find. I foolishly watched a number of bad reviews but finally decided to fit the bracelet and enjoy it. It's a great watch and I am glad that I own it. Personally, I only like having a date window on GMT watches since that is what I wear to work. The vast majority of the negative reviews involve people that did not wear the watch. If they did wear it, it was for a very short time to take some pictures and complain. I love Tudor bracelets and it's nice to have one that flys under the radar when necessary.
The VAER solar divers are probably the best value proposition a person can hope to find in watches. I also have this one; it looks and feels better than many watches four times the price. All of their bracelets and straps are quick release which make them extremely versatile. I wish they made a version of this one with fixed lugs. One of their founders wears the D4 daily while surfing, so I guess the spring bars are doing their job.
Citizen needs to hire you as their photographer. That is a great watch with one of Citizen's nicer looking bracelets. Two years ago I was able to get the orange dial version with that same black bezel. I have small wrists and my only complaint is its size.
The biggest deal breaker for me is a 10 O'clock crown. I wear watches below the wrist bone and the angle of those crowns dig thru the skin on my wrist-knuckle.
