My choice instead of any Rolex, JLC Polaris 41 mm

I was at my local JLC AD the other day and fell in love with the 41mm JLC Polaris,. To me this is such a better watch then any comparable Rolex. The Polaris is downright gorgeous in every way. The dials are stunning along with the fit and finish. The movement is a piece of art and I could stare at all day. IMHO, this watch embarrasses Rolex in every way. All of this beauty for $10,500. This is a almost a perfect watch. No watch is perfect but I think this one is the closest I have ever seen. I need to save up for this one. My new grail.

Yes and cheaper than a Rolex Sub

Why not call it my choice instead of my choice over any Rolex. There are a lot of brands I'd choose over Rolex, Breitling, Omega and many more mass producing brands. 😅

·

I like it alot but is still choose a submariner as it’s more timeless, versatile, and iconic in my eyes. Not everything to me is about specs of finishing. I like the history of the sub and a sub from 50 years ago looks like a sub now and will look like the subs they put out in 50 years

·

The Polaris line is excellent and so beautiful! The finishing is much better than Rolex and it’s one where you are less likely to get mugged for. It’s for those who know watches to really appreciate.

This might be the most conservative-looking $10K watch I've ever seen

·

Gorgeous watch, i say go for it.

·

I agree. Some guy tried to argue with me the other day that JLC is still machine finished and only marginally better finished than a Tudor.

·

Very nice, considered the Polaris a few months back. Didn't pull the trigger but definitely liked it when I tried it on.

·

Tried and I found it gorgeous. The internal rotating bezel didn't work for me though but it is a personal taste. Lug-to-lug is reasonable, like the weight.

The caliber is a variation of the Master Control Date, mine is running 0/+3 spd.

I am no Rolex fan but choosing a watch to wear on your wrist must be 100% subjective. I have been hunting for a triple calendar moonphase, had settled on the spectacular model from JLC but instead opted for a Breitling Datora, which is a lessor timepiece but one that I wanted to own. The small difference in price was no factor.

·

Top grate watch from top grade company. Polaris chrono on my future "buy for sure list". Regreting I didn't opt for one brefore buying Speedy as JLC price increases in last year or so were shocking and putting me off from purchase. When I considered that watch app. 1,5 year ago it was around 10.500€ new at AD, now at 15.000€.

There's a reason everything gets compared to Rolex. Outside of haute horology and high end pieces, Rolex is right there. I own JLC and Rolex and enjoy and appreciate both.

·

The blue dial JLC is stunning.

Really?! Blimey, why on earth would anyone chose a Sub over that?! 🤯

·

I really love these too.

My only gripe is that they wear pretty large due to the internal bezel extending the face out to the full 41mm..

Make it 39mm in Green and they can take my money.

·

I don't like it..... just a matter of taste

·

The Polaris is one damn fine watch. I do like it and would like to eventually acquire one.

But better than Rolex? I would beg to differ, especially from a mechanical standpoint.

When it comes aesthetics, that is totally subjective and personal and you are welcome to your opinion. 😀

Well, prestige amongst the general public, the “oh, it’s a Rolex” reaction. So that is one reason.

When was the last time you heard the general public gush about a JLC?

Lifelong desire to have a Rolex is another.

Then there are watch nerds like me who consider the mechanics superior to the JLC in addition to lifelong desire.

Just a couple of reasons.

Yeah, but will it retain value? 🤫

·

JLC is way beyond Rolex in just about every aspect, other than marketing.

·

I certainly agree with most of what you said. I still have a few Rolex pieces but I enjoy my others more at this time in life.. Enjoy the hobby

I love the Polaris line and aspire to own one. My only issue is that I don't like the uniformity of the general Polaris dial. I prefer the hints of orange color in the Date and Chronograph versions of this watch, but those are 42mm with male end links to the bracelet so the lug to lug goes longer than what I typically feel comfortable wearing. I'd have to try them on in person to see what resonated with me, but this family of watches is high on my list for a 2024 purchase.

·

I really wanted a polaris until they did several price hikes. I am not sure the price is right any longer.

·

Agreed. Have a look at the Polaris Dare in blue and green, in case you haven't; they are also very nice.

·

It’s a fine looking watch and I love the look - nice to see an integrated bracelet and internal bezel - but is it really worth $10k is what I’d be asking? You could get into any number of iconic divers for that price - Pelagos, SeaMaster, SuperOcean, Fifty Fathoms…

·

I agree, I prefer this too.

But if I had to pick a divewatch in the Rolex MSRP price range, I'd go for the Glashütte Original SeaQ with the blue dial.

I have to agree the Sea-Q is a beautiful watch. I truly love GO watches.
