Unreal...

I recently purchased a new watch to be shipped via DHL from the U.S to my home in Qatar. It was meant to arrive before today and I always assume it will arrive in the last part of the given delivery window. It's not yet here. I checked tracking and have been doing so often. It shipped from the Mid-West to the East coast and then on to London UK in one day. It then spent five days bouncing back and forth between a DHL facility in London and one in the Midlands. I've just discovered it's been shipped to New York and according to DHL they have no way to get it to Qatar for the time being and they've placed it on "Hold". Just... WOW.

I also just dealt with a DHL shipment of straps from Europe that was never scanned as having been picked up, took weeks to arrive and after getting to Qatar was seemingly lost for days until I was told it was in a warehouse due to not having a Name, Address or Contact number. After taking a taxi across the city to pick it up and waiting for over an hour I found it actually had all of those things.

So much for German "efficiency"😬

I truly hope I get my $2k watch at some point.

Update: After DHL management promised my watch was on a direct flight from New York to Doha it is now in Cincinnati. They called and can't explain why. I told them if it moves West any further I'll cancel my order with the seller. The ineptitude is amazing. 🤬

That is sad. I dont have issue with DHL delivery.

·

Maybe they’re waiting for more packages to your area to ease cost. Maybe the seller can pressure DHL to move it.

·

They have one job to do. I don't know why some of these companies can't build reliable systems to support their mission and accurately inform their customers. Further, some people can't do their jobs, like scanning packages properly and NOT STEALING, which makes my first point moot.

Every package I've received from abroad has a description of the contents and often it will have the value listed too. Some people see "mechanical watch" and POOF, it suddenly disappears or abruptly stops at a particular location. Gee, I wonder what happened. 🙄

I'm not saying that's what's happened to your package, John, clearly I don't know and I hope that's not the case, but thieves and unreliable people are everywhere.

DHL called to apologize and said something went wrong in the UK. They've escalated things and hopefully it resolves soon. The person stated that the agent I spoke with was "very incorrect" in their explanation.

Sometimes you have to shake the tree to get some fruit!

Agreed. So many companies are lagging these days. I recently posted about my watch that was likely stolen even before being boxed for shipping at an Amazon center. I now have the same watch but only because Bertucci are a great company and sent me the same model at their expense even though the stolen watch was from a reseller. Amazon, Sportique and UPS all did nothing. I wish Bertucci sold more watches I want as I like to see great companies get more business.

·

May be the warehouse person sorting the delivery heard the box ticking so thought best to send it to the US?

·

Your anger is understandable but keep in mind that the logistics behind the shipping of millions of parcels a day are insane. Sometimes something goes wrong.

·

I hate this part and feel ya pain bud 😔

·

You have my sympathies. I recently had a similar experience with a collectible. Tracking was fine till it got to ATL then things went haywire. Had to order a replacement. Hope that doesn't happen to you.

As a long time resident in Germany, i would like to say that although Germany is known for efficiency, sadly, they too are not free of issues. From Deutschbahn to lufthansa to dhl, i have had issues with all of them. 😕

·

This is why I don't buy international, unless I can't avoid it.

·

DHL held a single piece of paper in quarantine and delayed a closing when I did mortgages about a year into Covid. One single document. All of their shipments, with anything I’ve ever had shipped through them, are late.

·

If a company ships with DHL I just pass on the item. They are a horrible shipper.

Certainly. However I've dealt with DHL three times in the last few months with bad experiences each time. It may be bad luck but as my only experiences the pattern appears to be clear.

Just to show the other side of the coin, I've bought many watches from outside of my home country and never once had an issue. Half the time I have it faster than I would just coming from the other side of my country.

I’ve always had good luck with DHL, I’m sorry you have had these issues. Hopefully the watch delivery status updates quickly.

·

I have had very poor experiences with DHL in the past.

Similarly, I have very poor experiences with the United States Postal Service. I live in the U.S.. Atlanta metropolitan area.

I bought a watch last week. It shipped from New Jersey. It was scanned as having arrived in the Atlanta Distribution Facility at 9:54am on Sunday with an expected delivery of Monday before 9:00pm. ... it did not arrive.

Later that night the status (USPS tracking) was updated to "In transit to Next Facility, Arriving Late". It did not arrive on Tuesday, either. Nor did the status update in any way on Tuesday.

Literally in my city for three days -days which I drove into the city for work then home again- and it has still not been delivered.

I wrote a message to the Customer Service of the site from which I bought the watch. I acknowledged they are not at fault, but that they would be well advised to choose a delivery service that cares and actually delivers packages. There are two in particular anyone can name off the top of their heads.

Extremely frustrated!

-- Checking my USPS status at over 72 hours since it was scanned in at my city, I just now see an update. "Out for delivery". Three days after they got it here, two days after the expected/estimated by the USPS tracking) delivery.

Don't know if it has something to do with the destination rather than the origin.

As you've said, it was fast from the Mid-West to London but then problems started to arise.

Just lemme tell you that DHL Express is the best you can get. I ordered a watch friday afternoon from Japan and I had it in my hands monday noon in Germany. What more can you wish for?

Nevertheless I hope your watch arrives and if you ever have the chance (or need) order via DHL Express.

That is a great result. Sadly all three of my recent bad experiences were with DHL Express. Two in Qatar and one in Canada. Being where I am can be problematic, however I've had several good experiences with packages from many locations in the world and via different logistics companies. It may just be bad luck. Since I don't choose the shipping method I'll see how the next DHL shipment turns out. I have a watch being made in Germany right now so perhaps I'll find out sooner than later.

Fingers crossed mate!

DHL in the last 10years went from finding someone in the jungles of Panama to serve divorce papers to can’t finding their way out of a wet paper bag with a knife in hand.

Let's not forget that it was in the UK that "something went wrong". As a long time UK resident, this does not surprise me!

I've never had problems with international, or even intercontinental shipping either. I just don't like the long distances and different juristictions if something goes wrong. Forward payments to a different country make me uneasy, even within the EU.

The worst feeling…

·

Criminal, just criminal… but I feel your frustration. All too many times. DHL, FEDEX, UPS, USPS. They’re struggling.

·

DHL has custom watch dials some where in Germany that should have arrived 3 weeks ago... Yea... 🫠🫣

·

So sorry to hear this. How frustrating. ❤️

·

I try to stick to this simple rule : for anything over $200, go brick and mortar Period

·

DHL is the worst of the worst. Worst shipping experience
