Iโve never tried to talk to my friends about my watches. I assume they donโt give a hoot.
I use to think a lot of people love watches, but after learning nobody I know cares for them, which is a lot of people, it made me appreciate the online watch community even more.
Let's be honest, they all probably have things they're interested in that most of us wouldn't care about either. My wife also thinks that a lot of my watches look the same and that can work to my advantage
Wife finds my watch talk boring and has had her rager moments where she says besides hearing about watches its like talking to a wall. Can't help it that I love mechanical works of art.
Pretty much the same. At a work event out of state I met someone last year I still talk to about watches daily but thatโs about it. Heโs many states away.
I also hate your watches and will snooze when you talk about them๐
Count your blessings. None of us are all that interesting in person. You would feel the pain of your friends and family in an instant.
LOL my sentiment exactley! I donโt have any watch enthusiast friends and after joining watchcrunch Iโm sort of glad about that. I mean people donโt even get along online, the easiest place on the planet to be nice, so I know I wouldnโt want to โhang outโ with someone like that ๐ just my opinion
Count your blessings. My husband wasnโt interested in my watches either, then I gave him a Hamilton Ventura for Christmas and everything changed. Now he spends more on watches than I do ๐
Of course on the upside this gives me a virtually blank check ๐๐
I was watching a review of the Mรผhle Glashutte SAR yesterday. When they mentioned the woodpecker regulator, my wife said โOh, everyone else uses swan neck regulatorsโ.
Iโm lucky. My wife and friends see how excited I get about them and will humor me / ask me about what Iโm wearing. My father and fathers-father before him where and are big โevery man should have a good watchโ types so again, Iโve gotten very lucky.
Im happy "watching" my "watches" ticking, alone by myself ( most of the time ) ... my fren or wife or anyone can join.. sometimes someone will jump in and start talking about watches .. tht person nobody knows .. and thts how I found this "channel" .. thts part of the adventure and I love it ....
I always remember the Talking Watches John Mayer 2 when he talked about โlistening to that little whisper inside you of enthusiasm.โ Collecting is just as much a hobby as anything else, so just help them understand that (you donโt need to be an evangelist).
Thats sad. But I guess we can just enjoy our passion and hobbies just by ourselves maybe? Well I have a big ring collection and a watch collection, none of my friends knows much about rings and watches and the conversation gets awkward if we try talking about them. I guess that's why we have apps like watch crunch, just to meet other watch lovers and talk about watches.
Typically Iโm in the same boat. But after sharing your post with my wife she randomly showed me an IWC pilot watch she said she likedโฆ so winning?! ๐ค
Yep, I'm the only watch person in my family. My dad has 2 watches, but they were both gifts from the family. My sister will notice my watch on occasion, but only because she likes accessories and very much like a sister, she had a magpie-like desire to take my things.

Wife: โThey all look the same.โ
Me: โAnd I guess your Apple Watch is COMPLETELY different than everyone elseโs, huhโฆโ

You gotta embrace the reality that our watch addiction makes us a bunch of weirdos.
I so hear you.

So true! But good weirdos! LOL!!
Thatโs why weโre here.

I am in a safe space.
Your not alone here brother!

My wife collects. She certainly isnโt into it as much as I am. I have had two friends start collecting over the last 3 years as well.

Find the the weak link and gift them a nice watch. Sit back and enjoy watching the watch collecting bug infest their soul.
