Weigh the opportunity cost of each watch. $10,000 Rolex that will impress no one, or saving for retirement/kid’s college/house. If you can wear a Rolex and pay the bills, go for it. But I hate seeing people prioritize luxury material possessions over relationships and financial security.
It didn't have to be an aspirational piece but I have found a substitute for what you want normally ends with you buying what you wanted in the first place 😉
Thanks for the correction it was rule 6 and I get where you are coming from.
Life is short and precious. Spend it with a watch (or ‘several’ 😁) you love.
Don’t lord over others for owning pricey grail watches OR at your money saving genius move of buying cheaper homages/copies.
A controversial idea : celebrate others NWAs, even if you dislike the watch. For the other person, it’s a sunk cost and they’ve deliberated and decided, so I’ll try to be happy for them, even if not happy for the watch.

That's why I have so many watches.
The answer to Should I buy..? Is always yes.
Most always talk about watch crunch and watches to everyone even though they don’t care 🤣🤣
Buy what you want. Wear what you want. This is the only rule that matters.
Never go into debt for a watch.
I hate this rule BTW.
I'm ambivalent about this one.

It just dawned on me that this thread violates the real first rule.
Every thread needs an image, even if it doesn't need an image.

This list is solid gold
Number 4 underrated but an excellent golden rule
I admire your discipline on rule 2.

I would suggest to any rookie to watch 2 or 3 hours of Archie Luxury YT videos, and then decide if they really want to get into the watch rabbit hole.
the rest in unimportant
It occurs to me that this post has a lot of the advice Sharon Stone gets in Casino.

It occurs to me if Sharon Stone was reciting rules to me I’d agree to all with a goofy grin.

Never say your watch sucks.
That is a complete garbage collection.
Your collection looks like smashed ass!

Never say to others “This will be my last watch.”

I told my girlfriend I’m not buying anymore watches this year two watches ago.
She doesn’t care but I need someone to hold me in check a little bit.
Thou shall Cartier at every given opportunity.
If you look at Lincoln cars from the 70’s, a lot of them have in-dash Cartier clocks

Oh dam, late to party here!
Great list.
