Would you buy the new Maine Nationale ❄️ over the BB58?

At around the same price, would you overlook the quirks of the new Snowflake and get it over the black bay?  Check out my latest video on the topic: https://youtu.be/AA4OU2HoWq4

While I can see the appeal of the FXD to many, it isn't for me. I love my BB58, even with the circular index markers in combination with the snowflake hands. A large part of the appeal of the BB58 for me is the size - it is pretty much ideal for my 170 mm (6 3/4") wrist.

·

Haven't seen the FXD live yet but what I've heard it wears better than what the numbers suggest. I've owned the BB58 twice (both colorways) and while it is an amazing timepiece I think it is a bit "vanilla". The FXD just feels more special, more... interesting. :)

Really like the hands on the FXD. Reminds me of the white hands on the speedy. Feels very tool like. Though I have to say I love the polished hands and hour markers on the bb58!

It’s not the A1 dimensions for me as the BB58 my friend! But I am a huge sucker for military reissued watches! The only thing better than this would be a Rolex Mil Sub reissue and 1, that’s never gonna happen and 2!!! Even if they did you couldn’t buy one anyway!!!! So this to me is the ultimate! Just ahead of my CWC RN reissue 1980 diver!

Yes. That's exactly what I did. I sold my BB 58 Blue in anticipation of Tudor's new MN release. And I got the call from my AD just a few days ago. I haven't taken the FXD off my wrist since. Absolutely love it! Image

To me the BB58 feels too much like 'aesthetic first, functionality second'. That's not necessarily a bad thing, but when it comes to tool watches.. it is. While wearing a tool watch can be an aesthetic decision, we shouldn't forget or disregard the heritage laying behind the aesthetics we today appreciate. The aesthetic we appreciate is designed from a 'functionality first' perspective. I still respect that, and the BB58 doesn't. Therefore it's not a watch for me.

The FXD on the other hand. Yup. The FXD gets it. The FXD is for those who realize the true value behind tool watches.

·

I wish I could do the FXD, a little to large for me. But very cool.

·

FXD looks really cool, my only worry is how those fixed lugs might limit the type of straps you can use for it

·

Yes agreed that it's not a small watch, but it's manageable in person. Also, it feels like a "purposely big" watch like a panerai would be. Overall, would've been lovely smaller, but still a win in my book 👍

·

I’m struggling with this too, as the BB58 is perfectly sized for my 6.5” wrist, but I’m leaning towards the FXD anyway.

·

If the FXD was in black, I would be really tempted to get it. I really like the BB58 black, but I'm not a big fan of the gilt dial.

·

If I were to buy a blue Tudor it would be the FXD. I like it more than the pelagos and the BB58 even though the 58 is a better size for me.

·

BB58 for me. And like most here, it is heavily based on size.

·

The FXD is more appealing…had the BB58 before. Somehow it just didn’t stay in my stash…moved it after a month.

·

Would I personally buy it over the BB58? Likely not based solely on my own collection and the design and proportions offered with the 58. While both are dive watches, I think its pretty clear that designs are distinctly different - which is a great thing for Tudor as I can imagine a person wanting to own both and not feel like they’d be necessarily duplicating something already in their collection (I am one of them, haha). Different strokes for different folks of course - so definitely see the appeal with the FXD and understand why others would select it ahead of the 58.

·

For me, the BB’s circular indices give it a confused look — Pelagos all the way.  As an Engineer, I really like the purposeful improvements of the FXD, including the fixed springbars: very suited-for-purpose.  However, fabric straps never lay as well on my 7” wrist as they do in the photos.  Consequently, I still prefer the standard Pelagos with the amazing bracelet.  (I have a blue and a black!)

·

I'm a huge fan of early 1950's - early 1960's watch design, so the BB58 should be right up my street.  For some reason, though, it leaves me completely cold.

The FXD, on the other hand, really speaks to me.

I don't tend to wear a dive watch every day, and I don't need to be versatile (that why I have a collection of watches :-) ) so the quirks and limitations are very appealing.

(And I won't lie, I'm a big enough child to enjoy pretending (at least in my head) I'm some sort of badass special forces-type, rather than a somewhat-worn-out fifty-something, who should be a lot more more grown-up!)

·

I bought one... I love it!

I particularly wanted one with the '21' on the back (rather than a '22 they'll get at dealers this year) - so I paid over the odds.

Happy though. 😀

Congrats! It's an awesome watch. Been wearing mine non-stop since I bought it. Let's see some more photos!

Love everything about this watch. Almost. The fixed lugs make this not a viable watch for me. Why tease me like this Tutor?

I have the full fat pelagos with black dial which I love and is also in my opinion underrated.

My next Tudor will be the FXD for all the reasons others have mentioned here. To me its the perfectly designed tool watch. Glad I got the Pelagos in black though otherwise I couldn't really justify the FXD to my Mrs!
