So last year after a review I decided to stop impulse buys and I identified 10 watches for my short list, out of the 10 there were 2 x 2 watches that made a short list but I hadn’t finalised which ones. So my list would give 8 watches in total. the plan would be to get them over an 18 month period. I bought the Cartier this week. The Bel Canto deposit is paid and I get that in July. So I’m on my way to improving the collection. Question…do you have a plan?

Plan is shed a few and work on the following over the next 10 years
A vintage (50's & 60's), something my grandparents would have worn.
A early 1900's pocket watch; good or poor condition to tinker with.
A Ranger-esque field watch
A Speedy
A G-Shock that is not a Casioak
Respect the plan, but I don't have one myself. I've got a shortish list of watches I'd like to get. As my money reserves build up, I decide what to get next. Sometimes I save for a bigger purchase, sometimes not.

What’s your next purchase?

Dw-5600? Yeah boi
I keep a short list with photos in my notes app. the list may change over time as my tastes do and I'm ok with that. I'll know if its worth the purchase if its been on the list for a long time.
What’s your next purchase?
Hard to say. I've wanted to get a BB58 since this time last year. Events conspired against that last spring, then a string of other purchases kept me from getting it for the rest of the year. That's still the most likely, but now it's occurred to me I don't have a GMT and maybe I should go that way first. I think it will depend on how I feel when I both have the money and am sure I don't need it for anything else, which I'm hoping will be in May/June. We'll see.
The Bel Canto is the only watch on your list I'm not interested in, so I think we have a lot of overlapping tastes. When is your next purchase?
I'm almost in a one in one out situation. There's only one way I'd add a new watch and break that rule. That would be by adding another watch that both my wife and I could wear. We have that narrowed down to a Rolex Oyster Perpetual 116000 or a 1950's Omega (probably Seamaster, but flexible depending on the watch and condition). After that I have two watches I would consider upgrading, and one that I might be forced to.
Step 1. Buy a Seiko
Step 2. Buy another Seiko
Plan?! 😄🤭🤣😂
I don't have a plan. I fumble around and make mistakes and an occasional hit. Sometimes I get lucky. And than die alone and miserable like anyone else.

Stunning Cartier though!
My current plan is also over ~18 months, but with 6 watches instead of 8. Going into this plan I have a G-Shock, a couple digital Casios I love (one calculator and one world time), and an inexpensive microbrand skeleton.
Once I'm through this list I'll focus on the pricey grail(s).
My plan is to chill the hell out on buying watches - wait 5 years and get something special :)
With a fairly large total collection, I am pretty much done. That being said, I am allowing my Seiko collection to grow organically, but I don't think I really need to buy anything else.

Would you please move that speedy to the top of your list. All of WatchCrunch is waiting.

rig me a small lotto win and we have a deal!
Let's ask the Plan Pony
"Purchase a Citizen NB1060 next and then a Longines Spirit for your birthday. In a couple of years when your mortgage is paid off buy a Breitling Navitimer. In the meantime look for good deals on German pilot watches, vintage Certinas and other groovy watches."
Beautiful finishing on the movement! How does the grille come on and off?
There is a plastic tool that grips the grille, you place it over the grille and turn anti clockwise. Then reverse to instal. It clicks into place. You could do it with your fingers however you would put finger marks all over the face. 😁
We think alike. I was thinking the very same reason for the grand Seiko gmt. 9f is the way you go!
I have a citizen hac that's +-5 spy. Love that thing! The zaratsu polishing is amazing in the sunlight!
Totally agree, and HAQ is very cool and interesting tech. To think that the citizens on a eco-drive would lose less than a min over 50 years is insane!
No plan survives first contact with the AD.
Like what??
I would love a Seiko with one of the 8L movements(some of the top line Prospex Turtle, I'd love a Grand Seiko but realistically would be afraid to wear one) but I am keeping my mind/eyes open. Lots of releases can happen in 5 years 🙂
EDIT: Saying that, I think I would still be pretty afraid of wearing something over a certain amount where I live, so in reality it might be something less "special" haha
Love the Cricket.
Vulcan Cricket on a Forstner Komfit? You win. Which model Cricket did you go for and what's been your experience with it? Thanks!
Plan is to offload my GS SBGN003 while saving up for a Cartier Santos. really have no use for a GMT, so looking for a dressy watch instead

The Cricket is from the ‘50s I believe. As for which model exactly, I don’t know. I originally got the komfit for my speedmaster, but didn’t like it. That watch is just too heavy for a thin bracelet. Turns out it works really well on something small like the cricket.

Oh wow, I assumed you had one of the recent reissued models, not an original. It's a fascinating model with incredible heritage (the watch of presidents and so forth). Looks great on the Komfit!

Thanks, I actually bought it from another Cruncher.
My plan is about to go into Step 1
https://www.watchcrunch.com/cornfedksboy/posts/three-watch-collection-in-three-years-20141
I haven't bought a new watch in almost a year (currently deployed overseas). But I started a watch wish list note on my phone, and at the moment, I have 6 watches on it. I've had a couple of watches drop off the list as I've realized that I'm not super into them after all. I don't have a particular order I plan on buying them in, but I think having a wish list and sleeping on it for a while will help prevent impulse purchases when I get home.
Love the Cricket.
If they made a cricket that you could set over a 24 hour period it would be on my list immediately
I seem to have a different plan every week or so. My current plan is to try to replicate every watch I've owned over my 73 years on this planet. Some of that will be easy, since I'm a pack rat and have kept many in a drawer, including a couple inherited from my father, grandfather and father in law. Also, for the last 20 years or so, I've worn only one watch -- a Citizen eco drive day/date that's outlived 3 straps and a bracelet. So now I'm hunting through the vintage market looking for Bulovas -- a Caravelle from the early 60's and an Accutron from the mid 60's.
Sticking to the plan is always difficult
From my initial post I have changed yet again!
Cartier Pasha Grille (got and love)
CW Bel Canto (still patiently waiting for delivery, delayed 3 times now)
Rolex day just (green face) (bought the blue motif instead)
Either a Cartier tank or a JLC Reverso (still in the plan…for now)
GS Night Birch or Omiwatari (leaning towards the NB) nope to both, just didn’t get the vib when I tried them on
GS Sport Blue 9F Quartz GMT (still in the plan but waiting for GS to put a micro adjustment on the bracelet, until then no GS purchase
Longines VHP (still sniffing at it as I do like a HAQ however I think a Citizen calibre 0100 will be my preference now)
Numos club 39mm. (Not now)
Others currently in the mix
GO SeaQ Panorama Date. I like the smaller version however only the larger has the display back
JLC Polaris
Breaking the habit of impulse buys is very hard! This just dropped today and I like it a lot!
