Just received my Seagull 1963!... and it's beautiful.

Yesterday I received the infamous Seagull 1963.

And I can see why it is recommended by many watch nerds(spotlight, no shade) for upcoming enthusiasts, it's absolutely gorgeous... too me.

I only recently truly started looking into the history, heritage and culture of watch collecting in general. My collection is modest at best considering I'm in the honeymoon stage where I'm trying to get my hands on less expensive pieces to see what I like, therefore I haven't really bought, or even handled any real expensive pieces yet.

That said, this thing is a beauty. I'm gradually starting to understand the dynamic between simple elegance and high horology. Regardless if you like this piece or not, this chronograph movement is a work of art. This is my 1st chronograph and I feel that this 1963 is a fantastic entry point. The tactile feel and classic vintage look is exactly what I have been looking for.

I've only just received this watch. I haven't even worn it out yet(lol), so I will surely report back when I have some time with it. But I know that there are many owners of this piece, or folks that are on the fences about it and to them I just want to say, "Go for it!". You will not be disappointed... unless your disappointed(do your homework). I bought mine for about $180 from a dealer on Ali Express. It can be hard to find a reliable source to purchase it from so I will leave a link below if you are interested. If you've read this far, I appreciate you and I hope you have a great day.

I really do. My current favorite watch in my collection.

Thx. I do love it.

FYI… The leather strap gets ALOT of hate in reviews. I rubbed mine down with mink oil (any leather conditioner will do) and it softened considerably and darkened slightly. It’s become one of my favorite leather straps.

I have one and it’s a very beautiful dial. Def take it out in natural sunlight and you’ll really see how amazing it is.

·

I just ordered one couple of days ago. Now I have a German, American and Chinese pilot's watch. I wonder if Seiko would re issue one of their WW2 watches.

·

I've been sitting on the proverbial fence a long while about this one. Damnit! I need to do it before I continue to dilapidate into complete psychological ambiguity!

·

Yup

I have one from Ali as well and I love it.

Made me want to wear mine tomorrow

·

I have one too, is a great watch. Mine doesn't have the display caseback though-- which is both truer to the original and a shame, as the movement truly is amazing. Congratulations and may you wear it in good health.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll try it.

Interesting post, since mine arrived today. I'm quite happy with it as well.

Strap is Bronze Brown from The Watch Steward.

I've got the 40mm sapphire version, great watch! I love taking it off and flipping out over to show people the movement. Even under a loupe, it looks nice.

·

Now you're making me regret not purchasing one during the big sale...! I had one for a couple of weeks last fall but it had problems so I returned it and I hesitate to buy one again. I don't want to have to baby my watches too much (even though I'm not rough with them), so I fear I won't wear it enough... I'll think about it until the 11.11 sale!

·

I have one as well. I don’t wear it as much as I should, but it visits my wrist about once a month

·

Congratulations. It is a nice movement. There are many variants that have the same ST1901 movement as the 1963. Additionally there is even an ST1908 which is the same with additional moon phase and date. Enjoy

The movement is beautiful. That, you can not deny.

This is really an amazing watch, it's cheap, have an intresting history and looks great. Of all my watches this is my "non-watch-girl" girlfriends favorite and the one I show off to colleagues when they ask why I'm into watches. The craftmanship of mechanical watches is easy for anyone to understand when you show the the backside and let them wind it up and operate the chronograph.
