35mm VS 40mm

Hey y'all!

I did some (window) shopping today and had a couple watches on my wrist. The goal was to see the 2 different Tissot PRX sizes in person, and well... I will first let the pictures speak for itself.

I'm still doubting which size of the two (35mm or 40mm) fits my wrist best. Unfortunately, there was no 40mm gold PRX in stock in this shop, so I tried on the silver one just for size comparison; if I end up buying a PRX it will be the gold one for sure, since I haven't had a gold watch in my collection yet.

So my question for you is; which size suits my wrist the best?
From the people I heard, the opinions were mixed.

I personally feel like the 35mm has more of that "classic" feel and fit to it, while the 40mm has a more "modern"/ "new age"-kinda feel, since in recent years watch sizes have generally gone up compared to the 70's for example.

In another shop, I tried on the Seiko 5 (I didn't take a picture of it, so here is a picture from the internet):

Seiko Automatic horloge

At first, I was amazed by the size. I expected it to be much larger from what I had seen on the internet. It did fit my wrist very well however. This is also a watch I might now consider instead of a gold PRX. It's an automatic, which I like (although I have nothing against a quartz, it's more convenient but it's just not as "romantic"). A drawback is that the Seiko has a hardlex crystal, whereas I like to really wear my watches so I generally lean more towards saphire at this price point.

I then had a very nice talk with the shop owner about watch collecting and watch sizes, and all different kind of watch styles.

Then, I did some daydreaming in front of the Rolex AD's windows, where I saw this beauty:

Other cool watches I saw were some of Bell&Ross, some Tudors and a few lovely pieces of Glashütte.

But I'm going a little bit off topic now.😀

So to come back to my initial question:

35mm or 40mm for my wrist?

Cheers,

Joren

37.5 mm is your perfect size. lol

Full gold tone watches are quite loud. I think the 40mm + length of the bracelet is just a little bit too much.

Another argument for the 35mm is the bracelet itself. It belongs to the design and should be seen from the front. At least in my opinion the bracelet is one of the main elements if not the main element of this watch. But it looks like the 40mm would be nearly watch only. So if I had to choose, I would take the 35mm

I agree with this.

While the 40 looks OK; in gold, it would be too much.

I think the 35mm suits your wrist well. I do love the gold 👍🏻

·

Everyone that is not afflicted with gigantism or steroid use would do better with 35mm.

Modern tastes may disagree and I am forced to say that they are allowed to be wrong.

·

You know the answer.  One is a satellite dish affixed to you wrist and the other is a classy watch.

·

35 mm looks classic on your wrist.

·

35mm looks better imo (and perhaps more classic as well - it was the original size isn’t it?)

·

I was wondering of your wrist size because  IMO, both sizes looks good on you but for some reason 35 mm looks wayyy better on your wrist :)

·

The 35. No question.

The votes are in, bud. Count mine the same as theirs. 🍻
And to your reference to the Seiko SNKL in gold, in case you decide to still get one, I recommend the white dial instead. 😉

What size are your wrists?  I’m a 6.25 inch marathon runner / prison camp wrist size and love me some 40 to 45mm goodness.  Yes hilariously big but the heart wants what the heart wants

35 without a shadow of a doubt. Good rule of thumb with watches, if you're stuck between 2 sizes, go for the smaller. It's easier to get away with a slightly too small watch than it is a slightly too large watch

Definitely some valid points! The 40mm in full gold tone might indeed be a bit too loud. The bracelet is definitely one of the eyecatchers of the watch.

Small is beautiful. The 35mm looks fantastic!

The 35mm wears indeed much more true to the original. I prefer the 35mm as well. Thank you for your answer!

I have a 7.25 inch wrist (18.5 cm). I feel like the 35mm looks indeed better on my wrist. Thank you for your answer!

I have a 7.25 inch wrist. I do think you can pull off these larger watches very well, certain types of watches tend to lend itself for larger dimensions while still looking good on smaller wrist sizes. Your Oris definitely is one that suits your wrist well.

Thanks for your answer! That's definitely a good rule of thumb to have👍

This thread perfectly demonstrates what I personally love about watchcrunch: in other forums, most users simply lust after the all-too-well-known Insta-grails without even questioning size and proportion and thus simply adapting the notion that 40+mm are somewhat universal sizes (Mr Mosso et al. - I'm looking at you! 😉).

However, here on watchcrunch, I'm finally not in the absolute minority with my reasoning, that, when in doubt: go smaller!

The integrated bracelet of the PRX makes the 35 wear like a 37. And 37mm is, of course, the true universal size for the modern man (still a step up from the standard 33-34mm of bygone eras).

Indeed.🍻 More versatile too, compared to the gold one. Suits my 6.25-inch wrist quite well. For sure it'll look very well too, on your wrist. 👍 Yep, that freshly brewed cup of coffee was quite enjoyable, thanks!

I am in relatively the same boat as I have wanted a PRX for a while but got to try the 40mm auto version in store and it is too big for my wrist. I would go 35mm and I hope they release a powermatic 80 version of this smaller size as I am in love with the movement and the value it gives

An automatic 35mm PRX has been announced by the CEO of Tissot in Teddy Baldassarre's video on YouTube. For now it is only a PRX with real gold and diamond hour markers, but I expect that Tissot will likely follow with more and cheaper versions since the PRX is one of their best selling watches.

35 for sure. That‘s also the age I wish I could go back to!

You're right: The way that Tissot's CEO chuckled when Teddy poked him about what the limited 35mm Powermatic 80 version implies for the future can pretty much count as a confirmation. I'm so looking forward to that particular release.

Me too! Tissot is really on the right track with their watches lately, offering good looking and great quality watches for a reasonable price.

I have a 7 inch wrist and own the 40mm automatic PRX with the black dial, I've had it since december and I really love it, the 35mm had not been released yet, but I think I would have gone for the 40mm either way. However if I was going for the gold I'd definetly go for the 35mm becuase it's less flashy and more elegant; as for the movement, the quartz is more faithful to the original, but I'd wait for the Powermatic 80 version to be released and compare prices.

A little side note, I got mine in a Macy's in San Francisco a day or two after christmas and I asked for a discount, they gave me 10%. It never hurts to ask 😜.
