Does size matter?

So, for me the tank is the ultimate watch. Understand that will raise a few eyebrows , but it’s clean, elegant, can be worn dressed up or down..so ticks all the boxes for me. My fiancé has bought me this for our wedding (not until November so it’ll be going back in the box 😩) and when it arrived I was taken aback by the size. Now, I know the tank it typically a small watch, which I love as I prefer smaller watches..but this is actually the “women’s” size, so the smallest of the models. I love how it looks, but I must admit I’m a little nervous about the size. Maybe it’s knowing that every time I show this watch, I’ll be following up with “yes it’s small, it’s actually the ladies but I like that!” So, I wanted to ask, how important are proportions, and are they more important than the “feels”you get from the watch?

Proportions are everything, measurements are nothing. I think we ascribe too much significance to the listed dimensions and their labels as men’s or women’s sizes. If you love how it looks (and I think that really works as a dress watch) then you have already won.

It’s always never the size of the wave it’s the motion of the ocean baby!!

Oh wait you meant the watch!! Right looks great!

·

I think it looks superb on you, I would happily wear that (and I frequently wear a 43mm IWC). Congratulations on your upcoming wedding.

This guy liked a tank too…

I post this every single time somebody asked if a watch is too small.

I want to be honest: It's too small for my taste.

But a human is more than just a close up wrist shot. It's up to you infront of a big mirrow if it looks good on you.

If you feel uncomfortable I think it would not hurt your fiances feeling if you (or she) would change it to a man size.

·

Rectangular and square case watches wear larger than circular ones.

·

It looks like a belt for your wrist haha. I think it looks good since it is all black

·

It's a beautiful watch, but not one I would wear dressed down. Certainly a beautiful dressy type watch, but I wouldn't wear it with jeans/shorts and a short sleeve t-shirt. IMO, it wouldn't really look right.

·

If you like it, then it’s the right size.

(I think yours looks great)

·

For me size of any wearable item is 90% of the reason I own it, watches included. But I am very self conscious and insecure.

That said, you decide what size you want and whether it is important to you.

·

Fret not, it looks classy.

·

I agree that the Cartier Tank is the ultimate watch. Truly I do. I would also assert that there is no such thing as too small a tank for anybody to wear. I would even go so far as to say there are models that can get too big to remain Cartier classic. Also, I’ve been obsessed recently with rectangular watches. I have enough round ones.

·

The proportions do matter more for me than size at this point. I got a vintage Timex q that 6 months ago the size would of not been for me but I put it on and it keeps finding my wrist.

·

It looks great- very Muhammad Ali

·

Is there a "right way" to wear a watch? No. There are however, plenty of judgemental NPC's on the internet who will quite happily tell you how to live your life. They're not the kind of people you should listen to.

·

No.... But also yes ! Hope you have a great day on your upcoming wedding.

·

Yes, size matters! Oh, we're talking about watches... Then it doesn't, whatever makes you happy. 😂

·

Personally, I think it looks perfect.

For me, the dressier the watch, the more discrete it should be. There’s nothing elegant, sophisticated (or cool) about wearing something that screams “LOOK AT ME! I’M WEARING A WATCH!”

·

Looks retro shique . Just say it’s my own gene es aquire 🙂 I wouldn’t explain beyond that 😂. It looks cool 😎

·

Timeless style that will outlast any size trends, wear it with confidence. Looks good to me and, more importantly, to you. Don't ever feel like you owe anyone else a justification for your personal taste. Also if this is your wedding day watch it automatically becomes a keeper! Congrats on your engagement! 👍

As a watch - too small for my liking, even though square watches with diameter X wear larger than round ones with that diameter. But ok as a piece of jewlry, and with that dial it sits on the fence what it wants to be.

People will generally not notice what watch you are wearing, and even less often pull you into a conversation if they find your look off-putting - you may get the odd sheepish stare though. From the original post I am getting that you feel rather uneasy about that. We are the wrong crowd to relieve you from that unease (unless you are wondering wearing this to a watchnerd meeting), because we look at watches in a different way than the public at large. If that unease bothers you, don't wear it. If not, why did you ask in the first place?

Of course, you can wear whatever you like. But you solicited our opinions, and now you're getting them.

Loving it! I have a small tank must waiting for me at home when I am back from this trip. I think we are so used to wear bigger watches than it takes a bit of time to get used to the smaller form factor, I would not judge too fast and put it on for a few days in different settings to see if truly works or not for you. Sometimes love needs to grow, but it should never be forced 🙂

·

I think the watch looks very nice on your wrist, I just can’t read the time without zooming up a bit, but I’m sure it’s not as drastic in-person. Legibility is a big one for me, but once you get used to a piece, it gets easier to read at a quick glance. Very nice watch.

The 35mm PRX I just picked up is labeled as “women’s” in some websites, but if it fits, it sits lol.

That is the most abusive spelling of French I have ever seen!

Kudos!

·

This is all psychosomatic. 28mm was common in the 1940s, 38mm was jumbo in the 1980s. Tank watches are a different wear, you can go very small and still get away with it.

·

I am not sure that a watch can be too small unless like me, you're losing your eyesight! Anything smaller than 36mm is pretty much unreadble for me now. Too large though? That is a whole other story!

·

The watch looks great.

The socks and sandles... not so much...

Ahh man, cut me some slack! Just having a coffee round the house 😂👍🏻

·

Personally I think it's silly to worry about it being called a feminine watch. It looks good on your wrist size.

·

Small watches are coming back into fashion anyway 🙂 I think your all good
