Torn between Oris and Junghans - any suggestions?

Mornin!

as the title suggests I am once again torn between two models which I find equally appealing. I’d want to wear this piece with formal attire as well as in casual settings, which at first glance would favor the Junghans Meister S Chronoscope. I do think however that you could pull off dressing up the Oris Upcycle as a statement. What’s your take on this?

Love both! But for some reason I’m drawn to the Oris but keep in mind the Junghans can be a strap monster given the dial is versatile but the Upcycle you are stuck with that bracelet but there’s nothing wrong with Oris bracelets, they are nicely done in my opinion… you know what get Both!! Done! 😉😂😵‍💫 Sorry I’m no help..

Really love the Oris on pictures and it sure would be a statement peace! Have a look at it in the flesh though! when I put it on it somehow just didn’t work for me! If you can pull it off and fits the rest of your collection I’d personally go for it! It’s more of a statement piece, while I feel that Junghans’ less crowded dials are more true to their Bauhaus influence and I’m personally not the biggest fan of their chronograph. Good luck with your decision! 😊

I actually like the regular Meister Chronoscope dial a lot more however the 3ATM rating kills it for me since I do quite a bit of kayaking and I rately remember to take off/change watches.  This one is rated 20ATM which is  perfect 👍

That Junghans looks super sharp, plus a chronograph! That bracelet looks cool too. I bet the Oris looks fantastic in person, gotta like that splash of color dial. I was in your place, I'd go with the Junghans, mainly because I'm still looking for the perfect chronograph for me.

·

I prefer the Oris, the dial looks awesome.

I prefer the Oris, the dial looks awesome.

However every dial is unique and you have to find a dealer that carries one that you like 🙈

·

Oris all the way after handling a few in per I absolutely love the silver bezel

·

I'm a huge Oris fan but... although that dial is very unusual (I think it's made from recycled plastics??) I fear the novelty may wear off.

I can't believe I'm going to say this but, of the two of then, I'd go for the Junghans.

·

For me, they are both, own both brands, but of the two models, Oris for me. The movement is just too loud on the Junghans. Really loud.  That may not bother you, but when you can feel and hear the rotor, it takes away from the watch a bit to me.

Love both (trying to get the Upcycle myself) and I own a blue Chronoscope, but for your category, I'd say Junghans as it will be more versatile on straps 👍

Very different watches. I have an Oris Aquis (the Dat Watt), and while I like it, I see it as a dressy casual and not a dress watch. It’s a bit thick to fit under a cuff. Don‘t have the Junghans, but with the right strap it strikes me as more of a dress watch.

I love that style bracelet on the Junghans but think I’d choose the Oris. A greater conversation starter especially in more formal settings.

·

Those are not normal watches. One had a paint box explode in its face and the other has writing too small to read without a microscope. Both those companies have prettier watches on offer.

·

I like bauhaus design but in my experience Oris makes a better watch.

Have you considered Nomos?

In fact I have, the Club Sport is also very appealing however I like the Tachymeter scale on the Meister S...

I love both brands and I have watches from both brands (though not these two watches). It really depends on how exactly you are going to use the watch though. As pointed out above, the Junghans only has 30m WR which may be a bit low, but if your "casual" setting does not involve things like going to the beach, then it should be fine. The Aquis Upcycle is a fantastic watch and I like the concept of it, but I am not exactly sure whether you can pull it off in more formal settings

Actually the Meister S is rated to 200m WR which is perfectly fine...

·

Go for the Oris! I love being a watch nerd and having watches that the non-watch nerd double-takes at and then strikes up a conversation! I think the Junghans looks like any other watch that won’t draw ant attention. Not that I wear watches for attention, but rather to spread the joy of being a watch nerd!

Oh really!!! I am surprised cos my Max Bill Chronoscope certainly only has 30m WR

·

I'd go for the Junghans, myself.  It's a classier more versatile piece.  Moreover, I avoid proprietary bands/bracelets like the plague.  Sooner or later, Oris WILL stop making components for that bracelet and if something breaks, there goes the whole watch.

·

Oris would be my call personally, but given how you want to wear the watch and in what circumstances, I'd go with the Junghans. It's a far more versatile piece. If you got a single color Aquis dial in the consideration, then my recommendation might change, but the upcycle would stand out too much in "formal" situations I fear. I like my watches to be accessories, not necessarily draw too much attention to themselves.

In this case - oris !

Junghans >

I own watches from both companies.  In general Oris is more tool than Junghans so if you want more tool style take the Oris.  If you want less tool take the Junghans.

·

Both are excellent ! it depends on your needs and daily dress code .  I always like my watch to be a daily beater .  for more dressier , smart causal : Junghans ... For after work and weekend fun time :  Oris for me . ..

·

I personally would prefer the Oris over the Junghans. Keeping the look aside,  Oris manufactures its own movements (at least now) but Junghans probably uses the Valjoux movement on this specific model (I could be wrong 😉).  The Oris aka "Trash Watch" also has an unique dial which no other model of the same watch will ever have.

But if you are looking for an optio  to dress up with, Junghans would be the way to go in my opinion

Yep the Junghans uses the 7750 👍

My plan now is to tour the local ADs to see if I can find an Upcycle with an awesome dial anf if I can’t find one within the next couple of weeks I’ll go with the Chronoscope.

I'm not strongly drawn to either, but if I had to choose, I'd lean towards the Oris. For me, the Junghans looks all dial/no bezel - unless you have a big wrist, it's going to look like you're wearing a dinner plate. No matter your attire, people are going to notice it. If that's what you want, go for it. If you want a watch that will be a little less obtrusive (and I know the Oris dial does a lot to counter this) then go for the Oris.

Of course, nothing beats seeing them in the metal, so would encourage you to do that, if you can.

·

I'm in the Junghans camp on this one, the splash of color is nice, but personally I wouldn't wear it dressing up. The Junghans, for a similar price, you're getting a day of the week and chronograph function and still getting a strong 200m WR.

·

I think that Junghans doesn't represent Junghans chareacteristics which is mainly developed by Max Bill and Bauhaus. On the other hand Oris Upcycle is a very unique approach and has strong statement. Integrated bracelet may be an issue but my vote is going to Oris.
