I’m loving the Tissot PRX Digital for 5 reasons (although it’s completely irrational)

Yes yes - the price is ridiculous BUT - the 5 reasons I still like it are : 1. Its a nice example of a dress digital: Stainless steel with sapphire glass with a simple LCD display and 35mm option (40mm option too big for me). Harks back to the 70s stainless steel digitals that were considered luxury items before the widespread use of plastic after the Casio F100 (funnily enough based on original research from Tissot Resarch on the use of synthetic materials)

2. Tissot have some heritage in the digital watch space

3. Shows the Swatch group will consider more swiss digital watches - next Omega? The X-33 is great, but would love more pure digitals like times gone by. The Moon Swatch shows they don’t mind ruffling feathers here.

4. Part of a small growing trend of modern digitals : Ventura, Autodromo Group C, now this. Hopefully there will be more!

5. Annoys mechanical watch exclusivists that hate digitals - especially as its the PRX range that is more mainstream and already a target for distaste :)

Thoughts? (I can have a good guess ha!)

I’m with you, I hate that I love this watch

·

All of your points above are false, Casio are the only authorized makers of digital watches, the YouTubes and WC groupthink assures me of this. 😂

·

I love this. I see a lot of watch snobs looking down on it but that is expected from them. I wish the price was a 100 lower though

Give it a few months and they will be available for the same discounts as every other Tissot.

I love the idea of a nice "dress" digital, but as a Timex fanboy I'll wait for them to release one that appeals to me.

·

I’m a fan. Something different for sure.

·

It doesn't seem irrational. If anything, this seems well considered for your tastes.

·

I have nothing against them on principal, the execution however, is dreadful.

Generic rectangle lcd display jammed into a circle. Tissot, you really didn’t give the design much thought did you? I don’t like them because they’re boring and I can’t think of anything about a genetic throw away K-Mart watch worthy of copying.

·

I am crossing my fingers 🤞🏻, maybe all this 70's/80's digital and cyberpunk resurgence will lead to some reissues....

Like a Chronosport UDT.

Early Breitling, etc.

Magbe even some microbrand riffs on the OG Arnie. 20mm lugs, smaller case, metal/TI shrouds....🤏🏻

Whoever did that Vtec Alpha copied Braun. I agree, Omega has quite a few digital calibers within the Speedy line up between '78 and '83ish. though I wouldn't call those Tissot. I feel torn on the digital, On one hand I like it As it brings back those Wait.. Hold a Sec.. The question we have to ask Is Tissot using Omega's Back catalogue. I was going to say it looks very Late 70's early 80's Omega.

Cheers 🍻

Ventura actually originally designed the easy skroll system and licensed it to Braun. Also made the first kinetic digital. Proper innovators!

It's almost literally a square peg in a round hole.

·

They’ve got a bit more going for them than the awful recent all gold minimalist AP Royal Oaks, but that’s rather damning with faint praise.

The design is very intentional, it copies what was being done in the late 70s/early 80s.

It's not for everybody, but it's true to the throwback design.

·

I'm not into digital. For those who are, this is a great option.

·

I’d get an Apple Watch before I’d get this. To each their own.

·

I did initially hate the watch. But I myself do like the more obscure watch. And at 35mm IMO it's the perfect case size for this style of watch. That being said a Casio does what this is trying to do infinitely better

Annoyingly i worry it will grow on me haha.

I will say, the price should have come down a bit. When compared to the rest of the PRX lineup this should be cheaper

·

Nice now I want a vintage one. 🤩

·

Very similar to a £40 Casio A171WEGG-1AEF (which I have). I doubt the quartz movement will be much different. Tissot will have better built quality, but how much better! #casio #digital

If it had a negative display and a red filter, it would nail the 70's vibe.

·

I'm not against the watch or the concept, just dont love all of the blank space on the "dial". Just feels empty.

I love the retro look of all the other watches pictured in the thread that have the wording and indicators in that black space.

·

Just get the original. Module 506 from

The Casiotron was used by Tissot in their original digital watches. Take a look at the new casiotron, I wonder if module 593 is being used in the Tissot and up charge. The plain crystal also makes the digital PRX rushed and uninspired. But that is just my taste.

That thing is hideous, and a total disgrase to the PRX line 🤮

·

I hated it initially, but the more I see it… damn!

·
Bezelbub

It reminds me of a hot plate with a counter built into it

Image

Have to put a steel mesh bracelet on that one. Keep it away from nylon or rubber.

I like its polished stainless steel finish and the very large crown. I'm sure some critics will say it wears like a (dinner) plate.

·

I really like it (gold 35mm in particular). This may well be because I just bought an Autodromo Group C (grey/green). Think I have discovered a new strain of this disease called watch collecting. It’s separate to G Shocks too, although thankfully I only have a mild case of g shock. We will see if this digititis ends up being acute or mild!

·

😂Digital watches didn’t look nothing that way in the 80s… Tissot staff must’ve drawn it on a napkin during their Xmas party! 😇

·

I’ve just taken delivery of mine this morning- love it !

And yet something about the braun styling seems cold and you have to really make an effort to like it - with the Tissot or the Venturas they just work on a practical and aesthetic level
