Timex Ironman Triathlon

For Timex, their saviour in the digital space, would start out in 1984 as the triathlon - a watch able to store 8 intermediate lap times. Fred Olsen has stated in interviews that he was the driver behind the move to running based watches, and there is also the story of Mario Sabatini a marketeer for Timex watches taking initial triathlon models down to the Hawaii Triathlon in 1984 and selling out all the watches to the runners there.

In 85/86 the beginning of the Ironman event in Hawaii would mark the collaboration where the triathlon watch would be rebranded as the Timex Ironman Triathlon with water resistance boosted to 100m from 50m and a true legendary watch was born.

This is a reissue with a modern colour twist from Timex Japan. Love it!

Fantastic piece, and thanks for the trivia. I have been using Garmin products for so many years that I tend to forget that there are alternatives available on the market. Yours is a good example.

My DeWALT version from 1986. 37 years old and still going strong.

My Dad wore one of those when he did the first couple of London Marathon's. Remember it very well 👍🏻

This is the watch that saved Timex and allowed it to be the company that it is today. Bill Clinton, “man do the people”, wore one as president.
