As divers, a dive bezel is more useful than a GMT bezel while we're underwater. The old S302 had a great timing bezel. This version of the S302 makes the most sense as a diving/travel watch.
Since a lot of dives happen away from your home time zone, you can track local time, use the GMT hand to track the time back home, and then time your bottom time/safety stop, etc on the unidirectional bezel. I loved this design.
And unidirectional makes sense in this context.
By stripping the timing function on the new S302, sure, you could technically line the triangle and use it to mark the start of your dive... but if that's the intent, why wouldn't we have just kept the original bezel? The original bezel insert was much more appropriate for diving.
The GMT bezel insert on the new S302 makes tracking a second time (or third) zone the priority over timing minutes elapsed. A bidirectional 48 click makes much more sense for that intended design & function than a unidirectional 120 click.
This would have been a GREAT redesign/change of direction if they used a bidirectional 48 click bezel.
There isn't any reason to retain the unidirectional 120 click bezel from the previous 302 model with this new bezel insert.

Navitimer GMT (B04) owner here!
Changing the date on a traveler GMT movement is so annoying- it keeps me from incorporating this into my rotation.
If you are on this site— you, too— own/wear more than one watch. If you see a traveler GMT watch in the box and decide to wear it, look at the calendar realize it's been 14 or 15 days since the movement stopped... Lord have mercy.
As mentioned above— unless you are truly doing a lot of frequent transocean travel— there's no reason for the attitude that traveler GMTs are somehow superior.
I set the timing bezel at the beginning of play time to make sure he's getting the exercise he needs— which is a great usecase for the timing bezel! It also really sets the emotional hooks that bond me to the watch and making memories.
It will be exciting to see how your bond with your Neptune in the coming months/years!
