Your Choice of 3 Watches????

Imagine if you meet someone who has absolutely no idea what is special about watches but they are open to be 'converted' if you can somehow transfer your passion for watches to them (and No, youtube videos isnt an option here - They are relying on YOU to show some examples and share that passion)

From your personal collection what 3 watches would you pick to show them and explain what's so great about watches????

For me its my

1) Rolex Datejust 41mm in Rosegold and steel with chocolate dial

2) Cartier Tank - with blue numerals and dark midnight blue/black Cartier clasp strap

3) Seiko SKX 007 on a nato strap with a choice of putting it on a custom-made leather black/orange strap

To me these 3 watches, each one very different from one another in terms of form, design, function and type represent best of their respective worlds with one thing in common - Sheer class and love for good craftsmanship in terms of selling watches at mass level (even Rolex sells approx a million watches in a year not counting the secondary/pre-owned market

lol...let me edit what I wrote up there

·

lol....that bad???

·

It would depend on their lifestyle and their budget.

·

These are examples of what can be accomplished in watchmaking. Granted they aren't a Sub, A Zenith Defy or a Sinn, but I think these are great pieces to display what is possible with a smaller budget.

A great dial and lume on the Seiko

A visible movement on the "Tattoo".

A quartz chronograph with black PVD coated case & bracelet.

Your brown date just is a looker, and you can't go wrong with a tank. 👌

Edit -- Missed personal collection

Digital - Casio AE1200

Manual - Hamilton Khaki Pilot Pioneer Mechanical Chronograph

Automatic - Zodiac Olympos

·

3 watches as follows:

JLC Reverso - total class. You can take that anywhere and those who know, definitely know.

Image

Seiko - peanuts edition - fun watch that pulls on the heartstrings of people of a certain age. Seiko have all kinds of tie-ins with other aspects of western (and Japanese) culture. You don't need to spend a lot to have fun:

Image

Sinn 104 - independent watch manufacturer that has military ties in Germany. Switzerland is not the only country that produces great watches. You can explore the world on your wrist, and this German fleiger inspired watch is such a great everyday wear:

Hmmm let's see...from my collection I'd say:

  1. Rolex GMT Two-Tone but here I'd say steel for a first jump into collecting. I know I can't get both so I went all out

  2. Panerai Lumino Duo - it's got history, it's a classic look, you can't go wrong

  3. Cartier Baignoire - it's a dress watch, it's small and subtle but if you know, you know

these represent how I perceive the watch world and hopefully gives an overview to someone new to this hobby

awesome choices - and i cant agree more about JLC reverso - its sheer class

Love the suits as much as the watches! The three from my collection to explain why its so great is a bit Grand Seiko heavy! An SBGA301 spring Drive to show innovations, an SBGM221 GMT to describe how cool it is to track multiple time zones, and a Zenith handwinding chronograph to show beauty of movement, interacting with it through hand winding, and a chronograph to time stuff!

Love that selection - pure elegance and class in every way - and that Panerai with your dial color literally becomes 10 different watches with each new strap

Wow.. of course all the watches are great but that tiger one definitely stands out - awesome

·

Easy peasy, I would recommend the following:

  1. Omega SMP 300M - Outdoorsy

  2. GS Mistflake - Travel

  3. Timex Snoopy - Fun and simple

Honourable mention is Casio Mudmaster - SHTF type of watch.

I bought my wife so far three watches , no four actually, two casios a Seiko then a Longines , working her up to a Cartier or a Tudor :)

·

Just one.

My Seamaster 300.

If they aren't impressed by seeing the movement through the display caseback then there's no hope & I'd fob 'em off with a smartwatch along with the rest of the sheeple 😂😂

I'd tell them that this one will get you to the moon;

Assuming the person is a guy, and majority of his time is at work/office, and enjoys chill types of weekends with socials here and there, I will recommend these...

Seiko 5 SNKL41 #seiko5 #snkl41

Image

Seiko 5 SNXS79 #seiko5 #snxs79

Image

and Timex Waterbury Traditional TW2R25400 #timexwaterbury

The Seiko 5s have a display case back and automatic movement I'll be able to show. While the Timex is a quartz movement with Indiglo. These are the more versatile and adaptable in my collection, which I think most persons will appreciate.

For a more utilitarian, active, sports or outdoors type of guy, I will show these...

Timex Expedition Scout 36 #timexexpeditionscout36

Seiko 5 Sports SRPB93 (or any dive watch) #seiko5sportswatch #srpb93

The first thing I would tell them is, that you can have a nice watch without paying thousands of CHF.

My watches i would show:

  • Timex TW2U90400

  • Citizen Promaster Diver Eco Drive

  • Edox Les Vauberts Open Heart

The Edox, just to show a watch with mechanical movement, and its around 1k CHF. I didnt chose any Casios, just to challange myself.

·

Great question! For me, I’d show my:

- Speedy Pro 3861 Hesalite for the beautiful design, it’s story and heritage, and the chrono functionality.

- Explorer II Polar introduces GMT and date functionality, as well as another dial colour and great lume.

- Finally, my Seiko Think The Earth WN-1 Northern Hemisphere would showcases a bit of fun, innovation, a titanium case and different strap options. The fact it can also be a desk clock would highlight there’s more to watches than just being on the wrist, that they can entertain you and others and bring something different, and theatre into your life (even if it can take a while to get used to telling the time on pieces like this one!)

"Imagine if you meet someone who has absolutely no idea what is special about watches but they are open to be 'converted'"

Unfortunately, I have converted people who were not even considering wearing watches. I honestly was not trying to convert anyone. I forget what I was wearing the last time (Maybe Longines Sector dial) and I just explained what I like to look at when I look at my watch and explained how the movement worked. In all case, the focus was not on how many watches I showed them to see if they like one in particular (there was only one watch) but it was the other aspect of the watch that we all understand beyond the physical look and the price.

·

Seiko 6105, Tudor 7809 and a vintage speedy. In my dreams! That’ll never happen! 😂🤣😂

Probably my 6309 Turtle, G-Shock and Alpinist.

·

From my collection I would recommend:

1) Cle de Cartier

Image

Honestly any Cartier but I like the crown design, how the bezel reflects light, and the guilloche on the dial. Sure, it's not a robust watch, but it should fit well enough in any situation.

2) Seiko 5 SNXS79

Image

On the more affordable side, there is this Seiko 5. The bracelet's a bit of a bummer but everything else about the watch is just wow. The case is all polished beautifully, the dial is captivating, and the hands and markers are mesmerizing. It's not as fancy as the Cartier, but something to tied a new enthusiast over to the dark side.

3. Casio AQ230GA

Image

Even more affordable than the Seiko 5, there are Casio quartz watches. The watch is plastic with a shiny gold finish. But it looks so much more expensive. The module has a lot of functions with quirks. But it works. And I think that's the beauty of this watch - it just works.
