Took over 2 months but it’s finally here - Edit: DOA 💀

Edit: Watch is DOA 💀 maybe this will be my first tear down project to try to get it running again

My Vostok scuba steve finally arrived. Calling it “No frills packaging” would be an understatement lol. Just cardboard and a piece of foam. The shipping on these is very, very delayed these days. Not crazy about this bracelet at all. Dial looks great though. Eager to try it out.

I've not seen that bracelet before.

Try unscrewing the crown from fully in and seeing if it runs then. I don't know the technical reason behind this, but it's been known to release the mechanism.

In Soviet Russia, crown screws you!

Sorry...couldn't resist...

Yeah I’ve tried everything. I think it just got tossed around in the box and something isn’t set right internally

A screw up crown instead of a screw in crown?

·

That’s to bad it arrived doa

·

I got a watch with the same issue from a refurbed hmt

I got it running by opening the back and oiling some gems

Don’t know if that helps your problem or if you have the tools just thought I would share 🤷🏾‍♂️

·

My Vostok won’t “start” even after being wound 30 times unless I shake it. And even on a winder it stops.

·

That's a real shame! I have two and never had any issues. I'm sure a local watch repairer could take a look and hopefully remedy.

I understand they are simple movements?

·

Open it and...it's potato

·

Didn’t work ☹️

·

I’d like to see the back off of it. I have two of them and they run flawlessly.

I’ll film it when I get my tools. I’m going to try to get this one running

Shaking did nothing unfortunately

Man you hate to hear that. I like mine, accuracy is rough but I've adjusted it myself a few times. Working on them is pretty straightforward. I wish you luck!

·

Of the 2 i got one is good the other bad

It is the Soviet way

Also recognize the bracelet

Mid Evil chain mail thing

Replaced with a Barton silicon

Russian, incl Soviet watches are good to learn on, as they're quite forgiving and robust. However you want to learn on a runner, so you'll know if you went wrong somewhere. I recommend vintage SLAVA 2427 auto twin spring, ebay, $30-40.

·

I bet someone tried to regulate the timing and moved that bigger arm instead of the smaller +- arm, that’ll kill a Vostok, I know my backyard looks like a cemetery.

Definitely looks like the balance spring is bent

At least that balance cock assembly is relatively easy to change, now the trick is to find a replacement to turn that scubadud back into a full-on scubadude.

I see there is an ebay seller in the UK that does refurb bits for 2409/2414 movments but I don't know if the 2416b is any different.

Which reminds me I should get around to changing the balance cock assembly on one of my Cardi Vostoks. If only I could find an ebay seller with a ready supply of "round tuits".

I ordered a new assembly from https://www.vostok-watches24.com/ but they only had one available. It looks identical to mine, but I’m actually not entirely sure what my movement reference is

The most common auto with date in Amphibians is a 2416b. If manual wind then it would be a 2414A. In some instances people remove the 2416b auto rotor to fit a shallower case back and make it manual wind only.

Thanks!! The balance wheel assembly I ordered should work then. Fingers crossed!

I had to demagnetize my ScubaDude 3 times was absolutely magnetized as bad as I've ever seen, and would not run. now it's running about -3 seconds. Customs must be using strong electronic X-ray scanning devices of Russian imports. they don't care if your watch is destroyed.

·

That bracelet is unrecognizable to me. Pretty nice watch tho

·

Hey I ordered one recently .. and it came near DOA .. stopped after a few hours on a full wind. I cracked it open and there was hella rust on parts of the caliber. NEW!---had to service it and I'm still having some issues getting it to wind via the rotor alone. Also same model as yours, same case model and color of dial . Different bracelet.
