Alternatives to this Constellation Sedna?

Edit: alternative meaning similar aesthetic and colors, but for far less money

My brother in law is not a watch guy, but he tried on this Constellation while at a convention in Las Vegas and said it “spoke to him”

The $10k price tag is steep and I’m not convinced that this watch is worth such pricing compared to other offerings in that range. It’s not my taste but then again I’m not the one that tried it on.

Are there any alternatives in the micro brand space that are similar to this model and color scheme?

Thanks in advance!

I think for a non-watch person that is a steep foray into watches. It's definitely awesome and in a precious metal (thus 10k worthy)- but it's very niche and not at all versatile or daily capable (for most people) IMO.

Exactly, that’s why I’m hoping to find a similar alternative that checks the same boxes. He really shouldn’t be considering buying something at that price range lol

He’s a new doctor and I think he’s getting sucked into that culture.

Also as far as I can tell only the Roman numbers and part of the bezel are gold, the body is steel. Idk why this watch is priced this way

·

I think the stainless steel version is around the $6k range. Maybe that's the way to go for a non-watch version or point him toward the De Ville or Aqua Terra models.

·

The asking price seems steep compared to other Omegas but it is gorgeous.

There are too many to recommend for 10k. But if you are looking for something half the price, there are also too many to mention. I would suggest to your BIL to do a bit more research and also sleep on it awhile before pulling the trigger.

·

Maybe have a look at a quartz version? That’s one beautiful watch. I’ve got the all steel version & it’s pretty versatile actually. If he genuinely is drawn to it something else probably will feel very second best. A Christopher Ward might be a good brand to look at but that Omega os unique.

I would get the Omega if he can afford it & something different.

To answer the question, what is it about the watch that spoke to him? Was it the precious metal? The strap type? The colorway? That's the only way we can hone in on the types of appropriate alternatives. Like, I would suggest maybe a globemaster if he likes the constellation, but with a fluted bezel, that might not be the appropriate alternative even if the dials are similar.

Man, I love the Constellation series.

I meant an alternative that fits the same overall aesthetic of this watch, design and colorwise

·

Maybe a PRX, CW 12, or a precious generation Chronomat. If it’s the Omega, pre owned or previous generations of the constellation

·

The Frederique constant watch that’s looks similar to that in two tone but I forgot the name of it 😭

It’s the frederique constant Highlife in two tone which comes on a bracelet , I think you also get 2 complimentary straps so that’s a good package

You also can try to find a used one for 25-30 percent discount. It is a little less money and he is going to get a watch that "spoke" to him.

Cheapest I’ve seen is $7k which is still nuts to me

·

Whatever you do, don’t try to get him “something a lot like” that Omega. Better to get him something that isn’t a watch, but is thoughtful and reasonable.

Giving second-best just comes across wrong. He knows you know.

Please, do not take as I'm trying to persuade you to buy this watch. That is not my intention. But I just want to share my experience about getting a watch that "speaks" to you.

I was not into watches until 2nd half of 2022. At that time my wife decided that after 30 year of marriage, she wants to give me a Rolex. I told her that for some historical family reasons I would prefer Omega. So, we went to the local Omega boutique and I selected an two-tone Aqua Terra that I liked. We decided that we are going to look on the secondary market to see if we can get a better price. That AT was about $7.5K and we did not want to spend more than $5K. While looking for that AT, we went on a cruise to Bahamas. They had a nice watch store on the ship and we saw a beautiful Frederique Constant for just over $2K with a discount. It looked perfect and I liked it a lot. So, when we stopped on the island we went to a watch store there. And there they did not have the AT that I wanted, but they has the two tone Constellation Globemaster Annual Calendar. And that was spoke to me. Additionally they offered us 25% discount (from $11,400 to $8,500). We went back to the ship and went to look at the FC watch. After seeing the Globemaster, I did not want the FC that I liked a lot the night before. So, off the ship, back to that store we went and here it is:

With this watch I got the watch virus and for the past 1 1/2 years I'm into this hobby.

So, you probably will find a somewhat similar looking very good watch for your relative. But will it be the same? Will it "speak" to him? I think that is more important than just getting a good watch.

I’m not getting him anything lol I’m trying to find something that satisfies his tastes so he doesn’t spend $10k

He is not a watch guy at all

Also getting someone a watch that he hasn’t tried on is pretty risky.

Fact is - people like what they like. Unless you know his taste, gifting a substitute is going to be tough going.

And if what speaks to him is the exact design and colorway - red gradient dial with Roman numerals and two tone case with matching red alligator strap - then he has a pretty particular taste that I’m not sure there is a substitute. I have to admit - it’s a pretty special looking piece to me too, and I don’t like two tone watches very often.

What I’d do - assuming you like spending time with your brother in law 😉 - is take him watch browsing one day and have him try on a bunch of things.

If you really want to go more budget, schedule a weekend trip to SF, Chicago, or NYC when there’s a Wind Up Watch Fair.

LASTLY - if he can comfortably afford it and he can justify it to himself, who cares that it’s $10K. He can probably get 10-20% off at an AD on a Constellation, too.

You could maybe look at the Tudor royal but that is quite a unique looking watch so getting even close is going to be difficult.

Benyar on AliExpress. $30 to $50

Rose gold and burgundy rado £1,800, still luxury, more versatile.

Not quite the same but has some similar colours?

However, if your friend can afford it, then why not let him get it? It is a nice watch and you won't see anyone else with it

Defiantly a conversation starter

Venezianico has a nice red dial Redentore
