New Urban Gentry Islander Collaboration!

Well that's a nice pair of hands for sure,I was wondering what it might be like, it's nice. I like it but it's not knocking my socks off. 

Anyway I just ordered an Islander and a bracelet last night so it will have to wait .

I love everything on it except the font. The numerals look like something out of a mid 2000's Saturday morning cartoon

TBH I am a bit underwhelmed. I like the case shape, watch style, red accents and a bracelet but the font and hands ruin that for me. I wanted to see more unique take on the field watch if that was the task.

It just looks like a cheap knock-off Ranger to me. I'm sure it's well made, but it "homages" a bit too hard.

It also doesn't help that I can't stand TGVs persona.

Not as impressed as I hoped to be.  Along with some others, the font doesn't appeal to me, but when watching the video, I kept thinking that brushed bezel is too wide and just doesn't look right. Love both TGV and Marc, but I'll pass on this one.

Ahh was waiting for this one...and it doesn't knock my socks off. The simplicity is nice, though I would have liked a littttttle bit more character

Honestly the best thing about this is the Islander clock logo not having any text near it. In complete isolation like that it almost looks... Good!

I think I like it, but the numerals are a little challenging. The rest is actually decent, I think the bottom hemisphere logo and text work quite well, and the outer ring is not too shabby. Probably not on my radar though, I’m too obsessed with classic field or sports watches.

Sigh.  

After all of my defense of TGV's design skills he chooses the ranger as his inspiration.....it's just one man's questionable taste but what a bland watch.  I think he improved the font though.

Honestly?  I like LIW's new Manhassets much more than these.

I haven't found a watch from him that I like,personally. This one included. 

I like TGV and Marc from Long Island Watches but this just leaves me cold.

Honestly this looks like an Aliexpress Explorer homage. Can we make something original? Not interested at all.

Yes true but on balance it's growing on me .

I believe it's all 500 and they sold out in 7 hours , so I guess someone wants this watch and Marc's logo and TGV's branding.

I am one of those "someones" as I have never objected to the Islander logo and I like TGV's lion. 😄

I've seen far worse than the Islander logo. At least it doesn't have crowns, wings or a whole bestiary crowding it.

I like it's simplicity too.

I find Long Island Watch pieces are very well-made, but not particularly creative designs. The Rangemaster is an obvious Rolex Explorer clone even though it might be a good clone at an affordable price. It might be a small thing, but I can't get over how much I dislike the Long Island Watch logo. Pass for me.

with Islander ISL series, Marc has created a platform from which some good looking watches have been produced. Some Oyster Perpetual and DateJust homages (ISL37, ISL-39) have quite some bang for the buck (even if import duties in EU don't make them such good deals abroad)

But will punters actually wave their VISA to have the privilege of having the TGV stamp printed on the dial ?

I think it's an unnecessary addition to the range

Very interesting comments here --- lots of valid points and critiques.  I wasn't sure about the design at first...decided not to get it....then went back on my decision and ordered.  It's pretty easy  to take a chance on a watch like this - if you don't like it, you can easily get back the money on resell.  I almost invariably gravitate toward simple, classically-proportioned, understated watches...I did not like the modern font or the thick, brushed bezel at first...but then they grew on me...As a complete package, holding it in-hand, it's an awesome watch.  All this being said, I've never owned an ISL or any AliExpress watches, which folks in this thread seem to be baselining with.  Here's a bunch of footage and rambling:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jhNOIzguQOc

The legibility of the time I why I purchased one! You . A Logo is a Logo, I like the watch and this is my second one that I bought. I like the Bracelet, not a fan of Jubilee type. The bezel if shinny would have been a scratch magnet. Positive or male end links make the fit better. Overall a great review!

I don’t think it’s fair to compare LIW to Ali Express. I think LIW is a great microbrand. 

I can't wear youtuber's watch. It's like if you are wearing a Justin bieber T-shirt. It appears a little bit too "fanboy" in my opinion.

I can understand not wanting this watch, there are a number of posts in this thread offering reasons why people dislike the watch. I do feel it is a bit unfair to draw a comparison between purchasing a watch with a logo and a t-shirt with a picture. The t-shirt is bought for the image. I like the overall design of the watch, and the logo didn't really factor into my decision, despite my subscription to TGV's channel. 😂
