Homage Watches Yay Of Nay

I have my collection and then there’s homage watches. Is it okay to own one?

Pros and cons? Do I feel like a poser for getting one? Does it support the ideas of fakes or clones? A lot of questions that I would like to hear your opinion on.

Cheers

I am assuming by homage you mean re-branded copy?

I am not offended by them as such. But some brands are, the most offered party being Audemars Piguet probably... they even sued once and won which I find odd given the price and quality difference but hey. To me that suggests laws and regulations aren't 100% clear which is why I tend to stay away. I do own one "homage" but I rarely wear it. Plenty of nice non-clones out there. That said, I do own one which I bought out of curiosity but I very rarely wear it.

It's okay with me.

To each their own. I personally don’t like homage watches and would never own one. But that’s my preference. There is no global guild of watch collectors that will swoop down and spirit you away if you want a homage watch.

·

I will not be a snob and say anything bad about why and what people bought with their money. Elitism is not a direction worth going in.

Feel free to read just about any post using the following hash tags

Do I have some? Yes.

I like to try and support actual microbrands wherever possible tho.

That being said, I present this:

Is it Tactical? ✅

Does it glow? ✅

Is it fixed lugs? ✅

But can it countdown? ✅

Does it have frogs? ✅

What about tactical frogs?✅✅✅✅✅✅✅✅✅

I'm open to suggestions for anything that is as tactically froggy as this thing..👀🤏🏻😆🤣

Homages are fine.

Branded fakes suck.

·

I wouldn't bother unless a replica is too expensive. The problem with them all is that they reinforce the popularity of the same old watches that are already resting on their laurels.

·

My take on the subject: https://www.watchcrunch.com/casiodean/posts/homages-end-of-a-k-a-my-top-ten-homage-watches-350744

Pros: They are cheap and usually have the same specs (or better) than the watch they look like.

Cons: Once you have one, you don't feel any desire to own the "real" version, and you'll probably end up with a box of watches which aren't worth very much if you ever want to sell them.

Do tactical frogs communicate in mysterious code?

I think if you like it, go for it. There's no "watch police."

I'm using a Speedy homage to test whether I really like the Speedmaster style as a watch - not just the history.

2 days in and so far so good!

I think I need to get one of these eventually. The only thing that's put me off is that everyone else already has one.

·

Hmm. I need to look in to building a watch exchange website business where people can buy, sell, and trade o͟n͟l͟y homage watches.

·

As I’ve said before: have no issues with homage watches; even bought two to find out what they’re like. Turns out they are just fine. Regular part of the rotation:

But: if at any point i would feel the need to downsize the collection, they would be the first to go 🙃

·

I would never...😂

4 years ago when I started getting into mechanical watches I bought a couple Corgeuts. They were decent quality for around $100USD. After my 'collection' grew with many original designs, I lost interest in wearing them so I gave them to Good Will and haven't considered another homage since. They're not a good fit for me.
