How often do you go without a watch?

Most of the people that I meet at work or socially don't bother with wearing a watch at all. Those who do are usually wearing a smartwatch of some kind. I'm the only one at work who still wear a "real" wristwatch.

Image

Today's choice is the Seiko SNA411, the Flightmaster, fitted to an elastic rubber band from Archer, and I'm not wearing it because I need to know the time, this stopped being an issue for me since the turn of the century.

I'm wearing wristwatches because I'm the product of a generation that grew up with them and for me its inconceivable to stop wearing a watch. However most my time keeping and tracking is now done with my cellphone, something that I use and look at all the time and since it can fold into my pocket it's almost like carrying a pocket watch.

Theoretically I could then wear anything on my wrist, and it can be even argued that the nature or look of this thing on my wrist isn't really important as long as it gives me the feeling that I'm wearing a wristwatch.

Image

This is all very logical and I'm even willing to admit that I tried on many occasions to stop wearing a wristwatch. Fortunately, the decision to wear watches in general and my Flightmaster in particular has nothing to do with logic: It's just a cool watch and the bright yellow color of the rubber band is such a great fit that it makes me smile every time I look at it.

There are a few professions where looking at your phone is not convenient, a teacher for example but in general our phones make watches redundant. But even while using my phone I check my watch for the time rather than glance at the top of the phone screen 🤔

·

A watch is a standard part of my clothing. It would have to be a very conscious decision not to wear a watch.

·

The only time that I don't wear a watch is when I am sleeping 👍

I always wear a watch part from sleeping or taking a shower if the model isn't waterproof.

It feels weird if I don't wear one.

I leave home/car without my phone more often than my watch. I'd wager that I'm much younger than you, but I wore a watch since a very young age because I was taught "men should always have a sense of time". Still, I'm already at a point where I feel almost naked going out without something on my wrist. *Plus the tan lines just don't look good. 😂

I have accidentally left home without a watch a handful of times in the last six or seven years that I've been consistently wearing one. I keep a g shock in my truck in part to resolve that specific situation. I never go anywhere intentionally without one. I'll take mine off on occasion, like if I really need to jam my left hand in somewhere where a watch would be too big. I leave my phone, wallet, and keys in some safe place quite often when I'm working on something physical, and even if I have my phone in my pocket, I might have dirty hands or gloves, or my hands might be otherwise occupied. I was wearing a watch for quite a while before I actually got into watches.

I'm not entirely sure where it came from for me. I'm on the younger side of the WC sphere at 26, and no one around me wore watches. I had a Casio in elementary school, I think, but didn't wear a watch in middle or high school. I've always liked having a bit of equipment on me, though. I always carried a knife at school as a kid and covertly opened or cut things when I needed to, but either no one ever saw me or no one cared that it was against the rules. I just like having little gadgets on me when I need them.

2016 Hospital, couple of days.

I have coworkers that are ditching their smart watches for real ones because they are tired of the buzzing and vibrating.

·

I personally cannot leave my home without a watch on my wrist, it feels like going out without pants.

·

I am drooooooling over your Flighty ... it's been a long time lust-after of mine 👍

Am in my 60's and have had a watch on my wrist since childhood ... can't for the life of me remember a single day of going without to be honest! 😮

As a teacher I find my watch invaluable as you say I can’t be looking at my phone too much.

I never leave the house without a watch - and at home usually wear a diver in case I'm cooking, washing or showering. Agree with many here that I feel naked without one! Life is better with a watch on😍

·

There's a few things I would consider mandatory daily wear, one of them being a watch, the phone oddly enough isn't 😂.

ESPECIALLY if I'm off work....it's an inverse square law thingy...

The harder it is to get a hold of me, the better my time off is, And vice versa 😆.

Over the last two years I have seen a trend amongst my fellow coworkers, team leads, and team members tho. The trend is heading back to "dumb" watches. Especially in current times, with how much data is tracked by the ubiquitous smart watch, even if your phone is left behind, that little gadget on your wrist is still transmitting and receiving.

·

I take off my watch when asleep and usually in the shower. That’s it

That's pretty much what happened to me. Smartwatches were cool until they started intruding on my free and private time. I went back to a simple G-Shock and the rest is history.

I’m curious, do you set the time?

Of course I do. Sometime I don't set it right but at least I make the effort.

I also tend to forget my phone when I'm not working. The only reason I keep it with me during the weekends is that I use it to open the parking gate.

That’s a great looking strap! A ‘refreshing’ combo vs the regular MN style option popularised by TGV

I have both the Erika and the NDC straps (the one from Erika's Originals is better IMO), but I don't use them anymore on the Flightmaster because it became some kind of tired trope that everybody has to fit the Flightmaster on an MN strap.

Lovely Opinel-Knife!

That's because I was born in France and there are things that sticks with you even if my last visit there was more than a decade ago.

Yes, but only ones I've seen available are on the pre-owned market, and waaaay too spendy for my bruised wallet! LOL!!

I believe that Marc from Long Island Watches had some stock left until recently, why don't you try to message him and find out?

Lol, that’s a funny post

·

Every time I take a shower I don’t wear a watch.

·

Morning: 1) Underwear 2) Watch 🫡

·

Genuinely cannot remember a time ( no pun intended ) in the last 25+ years that I haven’t worn a watch. I would go as far as to say that I haven’t missed a single day.

·

I have been wearing watches daily for around 3 - 4 years now. I use my phone to set my watches then it stays in my pocket.

·

I always have a watch on, I even wear it to bed! Phones are too fragile, not waterproof prone to cracking, bulky and clunky. My watch is always on my wrist, unobtrusive and available instantly!
