German watch souvenir: should I get the Sinn 556A RS or the Nomos Club Sport?

So I know I’ll be doing some business travel to Germany this year. And last time I was there I checked out some Sinn and Nomos watches. This time I think I want to pick one up as a souvenir of my time in Germany. Yes, I know they are quite different in price (about $1,500 for the Sinn vs. $3,150 for the Nomos).

If budget was no concern my dream would be to pick up a Lange 1 as my souvenir but alas, I can’t do that on this trip, so these are the two watches I’m considering.

EDIT: I’ve tried on both and they both fit my 6.5” wrist well. I’ve gone to the local shops and seen them both in the metal.

Would be a hard choice if prices were the same but at half the price would easily pick sinn

Way different price points - would definitely try both on as they will wear different. However, if the Nomos looks great and you have the budget that colorway and model is outstanding. Definitely team Nomos here - even as a Sinn owner.

·

I would also think about the use case, as these are almost polar opposites - a field watch Vs a dress watch.

Which one do you see yourself using more?

I voted the Sinn, because that's what I would do, but I don't know you.

One is a sturdy field watch, one is a beautiful and remarkable piece with an in-house movement (and just as sturdy). Easy choice, but as others have mentioned - I’m not you!

·

I couln‘t say no to the Sinn. The look and size is so cool.

Okay so I have the same size wrist, and have had both on wrist. In fact, I'm wearing my 556A RS as I type this reply, so I'm definitely biased and I voted for the Sinn. Let me provide a little more context.

I absolutely love the look of that Nomos, and I was delighted when my AD had one in stock not too longer after they came out. However, when I tried it on, I was underwhelmed. the reason is largely due to the notoriously long Nomos lugs, and their choice of male end links. Knowing their lugs wear long, I thought 37mm case would probably be great on me. And it should have been. But, those male end links really make the watch head look very long. Too long for me. The dial ends up looking small and then too much metal on either end of it. For me, the proportions were all wrong. I wanted to love it, but I couldn't.

that said, it's still a beautiful piece, it just didn't look right to my eyes on my wrist. You might love it.

Out of those specific two the sinn. There are a few different nomos I would choose over that sinn

·

I would find a funky used or vintage piece some where vs. something broadly available.

·

I think you can’t go wrong with either but at half the price, the Sinn is just more attractive economically speaking. It doesn’t hurt that with such a clean design, it’s very much a GADA watch, you can throw on a leather or rubber strap on it and take it outdoors.

·

If I were going with this budget I would get a Sinn 105 utc. Set the gmt hand to my home time zone and use it as my long-term travel watch. If my budget were higher the Nonos world timer is sexy.

·

Sinn is more rugged and ready, the nomos has more craft and care put into its construction process. Depends on what you're looking for; the Sinn for tool-watch, Nomos for horological credibility, also flashier.

·

If the Lange 1 is your dream, then the Nomos is closer to that aesthetic. And the finishing on the movement likewise a closer look to the Lange. Especially if you are looking for a dress watch type.

·

I quite like the Nomos but not keen on the dial colour. Out of the 2 I’d get the Sinn.

·

I made some polls on my page regarding German watches, go check it out if you want, you might get some ideas! 😄

·

I would go for Nomos because of the nicer dial imo and inhouse movement, even the price is more favorable on they website

I have the 556i and it’s my favorite watch in my collection. So damn versatile and could easily be a one watch collection. Also keeps the best time (less than +2 per day) despite not being cosc certified. Highly recommended

Sinn all Thes way

Nomos has too long lugs imo

Sinn all Thes way

Nomos has too long lugs imo

And even longer male end links.

·

Get the nomos but don't pay that as you can get them cheaper.

·

I already have the Sinn 556 rs so I will go for the nomos.

I like my Sinn but I think the nomos is warmest.

·

Sinn mate. 😊

·

I would go with Sinn.. mostly because lug to lug on the Nomos are to long
