Censor For A Day!

We all know that WatchCrunch is meant for civil watch nerd discussions. If you have been around a minute you also know that you can also mute certain folks if you find them upsetting or annoying (it is kind of like Zoloft for your feed). I don't mute anyone because I like the full range of opinion that WC can offer. However, some days I wish that my feed had less of a certain type of post. If you could eliminate one sort of post, even for a day, maybe your feed would be more enjoyable. This isn't meant to single out any post, poster, or comment or commenter. It is merely a thought experiment.

Definitely the G-shock one, although the Rolex is also a good candidate. I am actually thinking of writing an essay about how overrated G-shock is... Maybe a duo essay with an avid fanboy/girl/X?

I was not aware of the mute setting. I don’t have a need for it though. I even agree and enjoy the four selections mentioned! 😆

I encourage this endeavor, being against them on purely aesthetic grounds. I would like a discussion about them on technical grounds.

I vote to censor myself, before the platform does it for good

My ONLY wish is that folks would use the search function before posting to see if there’s already been an on-point post about the subject they have in mind.

Otherwise, I’m ok with all of it, at least as presently constituted. I can just scroll past anything I don’t want to see, and the only person who was ever frankly obnoxious to me got muted (and subsequently unmuted without further incident). As Sir Walter Raleigh said about the executioner’s blade, so I’d say about the mute button and my scrolling finger: "Tis a sharp Medicine, but it is a Physician for all diseases and miseries"

You are in good company.

·

Old and grumpy wow. I feel kinda singled out here. I can't take it! Lmao

Cheers!

·

All of the above please. I honestly just want more long form writing, stuff that's a little more than "look at my cool watch."

Tis the peril of social media.

Most people have a hard time identifying the watch that their wife bought them for Father's Day. You can write a 4500 word exegesis on all of the watches that you saw at lunch. ("I could tell by his full grain Italian leather shoes that he was the sort of banker that only worked until his second martini of the day. I looked for the tell-tale signs of a PP Calatrava, and sure enough the little glint of gold under his cuff gave it away. From its size I knew it to be from the 1970's...") I agree. I like the long form.

You can want…

the answer is (d) Seiko

Do we just need a tag or a subheading for long form pieces, and/or to encourage people to use WRUW for the “cool watch” posts?

We certainly do seem to be in an "it says anything bad about GShock and it gets the hose again" phase around here. I mean, they're fine, but let's be reasonable.

Amusingly enough, I did have an encounter with a hobnail Calatrava this week in the building elevator. An attorney not a banker. Stay tuned for the next....Watches in The Wild! 😂

I mean, I use the #watchesinthewild for my ramblings on watches I've seen.

I know @Porthole uses #fuckoffchrisnobodycares for most of his.

I think it's just an organic thing at this point.

I directly messaged one such poster. I mentioned that rather than 2 or 3 views and no comments that you get a lot more interaction on WRUW. He never responded. He just posted another watch with no commentary.

·

I could use fewer AliExpress watch posts but I can scroll past them. No worries.

That’s exactly why I chose D - to censor myself.

·

I'd like if there were a way to put all the "here's what I'm wearing today" posts in the dedicated (and daily) WURW section.

·

Nah, man, the only reason you’re so fussed is because you’re on the site like 14 hours a day. So you keep seeing the same kinds of posts.

So, if a watch forum user is 3 sigma deviation from the mean, you’re effectively like 5 or 6 sigma! (In other words, you’re a total weirdo!)

Casual forum users will see the posts you feel are too repetitive and appreciate them.

#fuckoffchrisnobodycares is probably the most polarising content you will find on here, but that’s because I’m a privileged a-hole who has had everything handed to him according to some of my most die-hard fans. If you scare easily, I’d recommend either WRUW, a poll (the answer is always (d) Seiko), or a SOTC post to break the ice.

This. It's the forum version of "this meeting could have been an email." I'm not opposed if there is some, shall we say, unique content to make it worth a thread. "This is my (X) that I've had for (x) years and is my favorite watch" is not unique content.

I used the mute function once but was hit by severe FOMO so I took it away the moment the function was there. The old ignore method works fine.

Of your options I say B. I’m fine with the fact that the brand isn’t for everyone. But quite often they have to take a beating from those who apparently have no experience with their watches. That is when the ignore method comes handy.

·

I do notice myself scrolling past more and more “help me choose” and “what do you think of my choice?” posts these days. As well as the posts or polls that could have been answered by using the search function. But I suppose it’s the nature of the beast as more people join?

Would like to also eliminate the SOTC posts and make it a profile feature.

·

E: None of the above

For the same reason that you don't block comments by certain people. I like to experience the full gambit of what WC has to offer. If I don't like a particular post, I can just keep on scrolling.

·

Somehow I missed this post initially. Too funny. I don’t honestly care about different types of posts. The whole point of being on WC is to immerse myself in the world off watches, and for me, that immersion means enjoying the gamut of posts.
