Where are the vintage bargains?

I answer that over at the Escapement Room here. Hint: I think that it is old Wittnauer "dress" watches.

After @brunofrankelli 's recent post about the glory that is the rectangular watch, I had to stay one ahead and get an old Wittnauer.

So, expect this in the WRUW soon. You can't beat a Wittnauer.

Even with such a short post, I’m laughing my ass off in anticipation of the full article!

It is more of one of my history posts, plus a dig a Bulova (which is deserved).

Wittnauer is a weird one. It is a brand used by other brands after 1936. It is a cipher.

Bonus history: First female president of a major watch company: Martha Wittnauer until 1936. First black president and CEO: Wittnauer again.

Amusing as always! Missing the days when one could pick up a vintage Longines with small seconds for around $200 though a few rough examples are still out there at around that price.

Now though thanks to this post I'm gonna have to add a Shitnauer to the mix.

Surely those two years being the same is purely coincidence.

The other president and CEO were in the 1990's.

Lovely Wittnauer. If the goal is to make me jealous you succeeded.

Lovely!…Oh yeah, Wittnauer has made it to space - also made the gauges on Amelia Earhart’s airplane.
