30th bday gift

Hi everyone,

My 30th bday is looming, so you all know what that means, and it's between the Cartier Santos medium and the explorer I 36mm. I currently have a tudor BB58 navy and a GS SBGX259, what do you guys think would be the best piece to add? The Santos provides more of a "wow factor", just a beautiful watch. Whereas the explorer rides a very good line right in-between my current watches; more sporty than the GS, yet less sporty than the BB58? N.b. the Cartier mirror pic is the two tone, that's the only one I took a mirror pic of.

Thanks in advance

Thanks in advance

Although the Santos is fantastic, I’d say as the GS is already quite dressy go for the explorer. It’s an iconic watch in the Rolex lineup which will grant you instant respect from anyone who appreciates watches 👌This will give you a great 3 watch collection as I can see you have good taste.

·

Another Grand Seiko piece of course! 😂

·

Cartier would add more versatility

·

Get the Santos

·

I’d go Explorer. You already have a slightly dressier watch and white. You’ll have black blue white this way.

·

I've always chosen Rolex over 90% of other watches but finally getting my hands on a Cartier is something different. More of a wrist presence and a better conversation starter in my opinion. Then again more of a dress watch than an everyday one like the explorer. depends on the life style! either are good choices

·

First of all, great collection with the Tudor and the GS. I think it depends largely on the kinds of situations you find yourself most in. If you attend a lot of galas, theater shows, parties and events, then a dressier watch like the Cartier Santos would probably complement your collection better. If you’re like me, you enjoy walking in nature then the Explorer would probably be better as you can always use the GS and even the Explorer to attend dressed up events.

Advanced Happy birthday Ali!

Santos makes the most sense to me. Yes I'm biased. It straddles the line between sporty and dressy, especially with the strap option. Also it's kind of a mix of the two you own. The blue dial Santos might be even better looking fit to your trio. But, I don't think you can argue against an Explorer either.

The Santos is a work of art. The Explorer is… meh.

Cartier. Do me a favor walk around that mall where the boutiques are and look at everyone’s wrists and see how many of the same Rolexes you see walking around. Then try to spot a santos… I am sure you may find one person with one on or none! Don’t be like everyone else be bold!

Big facts!

·

I would suggest the Santos! Such an incredible piece

·

I would say Santos based on how it fits in your collection, but I love the Explorer and you don't have a Rolex, so. . . tough one. Explorer! The Santos is readily available and isn't going anywhere. get it next year.

·

I’d go Explorer because it’s my grail

·

SANTOS

·

I think the explorer looks better on you but at the end of the day I always say: whatever makes you smile when you look at your wrist. Both are amazing choices!

·

As you wrote, I think the explorer is quite similar to what you have. Sportiness with the tudor. Casual dressiness with the GS.

I think the Santos is a league above in terms of dressiness. Depending on your lifestyle it's amazing for black tie events or when you want to dress up from a work suit.

So rationally I vote for Santos. But the explorer is a marvel of design so my heart will always go there 🤣

·

How long are you willing to wait for the Explorer? Otherwise Santos all day long.

·

Santos, have fun with leather straps from Cartier or the plethora of solid aftermarket quick change straps. I went for a rubber in my Santos Dumont XL and now wear it doing any sport activity outside of ocean swimming.

It has more versatility and is still sporty enough with 100m to swim or snorkel with. It can do everything the Explorer can and then some.

Also, no matter what some people have stated, you GS is a sport watch, not a dress watch, the Cartier can toe that line better or closer as a deress watch substitution. Your Tudor covers the same vibe as the Explorer.

A big plus for the Cartier for me beyond its superior bracelet and modern design, features and build quality is that it isn’t one of the most boring Rolex in the catalog. My opinion only!

Santos

·

I love both, but if you can swing it buy the Rolex.

·

I have both but it’s the Santos for me. It’s classy, first ‘pilot watch’/ men’s wrist watch and also a serious watch. The smart link bracelet is just superb. Yes true GS is also a dress watch but something about the Santos that makes it different?

The explorer is also a classy reliable GADA watch and it’s just that. The santos puts a smile on my face each time I put it on.

Good luck with your decision as both are keepers to me. 🍻

·

Go for an F-91w!

·

When and if you can buy Rolex….do so. Holds more value, it’s low key and it’s just as versatile.

·

Explorer all the way.

·

You complete a really good 3 watch collection with the explorer tbh

·

Get the Santos, it's dressy so you can dress it up or down and also it's different from the pieces you already have :)

·

Get a Timex and be done with it.

·

Unless you have an Explorer ready and waiting for you in the time that you need it, go for the Cartier Santos medium. It's just as sporty if you don't mind scratches and just as storied as the Explorer.

·

Both great, but Santos for me - the first wristwatch. No competition.
