Better 1st GADA?

Hey! Looking for my first “serious” everyday watch.

Know the above are very different from each other. But wanting something all-purpose, accurate and will last years.

I mainly work from home but go out time-to-time (restaurants, bars, concerts). I have a solar gshock for outdoors and exercise.

This may be a question of whether the Nomos is durable enough with its polished surfaces and general enough with its lack of bracelet options.

It’s the Lorier Falcon for me! I’ve been eyeing one for little bit.

·

Out of those two? Definitely the Lorier, in my opinion.

·

I have the Nomos Club and got my wife that exact Club Campus. Both are great watches and work for all occasions. I will say the lugs are long so you might want to try it on first. The Falcon is a beaut though. Love the dial texture and looks too. It’s also way cheaper than the Nomos.

Thanks! Do you find yourself having to be super delicate with the Nomos? And do you ever wish it had more bracelet options or do all the strap options cover you?

Not at all. I bought mine used but as a general rule, I will only buy and wear watches I am not afraid of damaging or losing. That being said, I’m not going deep sea diving with one.

I keep mine on a leather strap. Never found a need to put it on a bracelet but I do have a few quick release ones that I might try out.

·

They both have good reps and work as GADA. I have Falcon and love it. Which looks better to you?

Oof. Such a hard, good question. Think definitely gonna have to see both in person.

Buying a first solid watch feels a lot like deciding on a first tattoo apparently

·

I'll just leave this here..obvs you see what my choice was.....🫣😉🤐

Oh and #nwa .....double whammy this week...😂🤪

·

Hard to top that Falcon. My $0.02…

I will just say that one of my semi-grail watches (that have perfect parameters and which I can buy because they don't cost like a house) is the following Nomos: https://www.borsheims.com/nomos-glashutte-club-campus-neomatik-37mm-watch-white-dial

Because of:

  • cool dimensions

  • Lume on the dial/hands

  • Automatic mechanism with resistance to magnetic fields(I believe so)

  • 20atm WR

  • design that allows to wear the watch with a suit as well as in a casual attire

  • Combination of silver and gold, thus I can wear it with silver/metal accessories, as well as with a golden chain

If the Nomos from above has the same characteristics, and if it's really antimagnetic (needs to be checked), then it's better than Lorier by this parameter. Thus I would get Nomos. If you don't care about magnetism, and you like the design of both - then get Lorier as its cheaper :)

·

Though choice, obviously the Lorier is way cheaper and got the Eplorer look, but I want to try a Nomos also.

·

From the two I go Lorier too. Nomos seems to be a very good and serious brand but I don't like their lugs

·

Plain and simple, Nomos is a better watch with a more interesting movement imho....

Woah! Have yet to see this one. Thanks for the share!

Couldn’t be happier with mine!

I don't know much about Nomos but this Lorier has a very intemporel look classic that will look good for many years to come. This microbrand makes so beautiful watches so you have my choice there! Good luck on your purchase!

·

I can only speak about Nomos, I have a Club Campus and a Tetra. I love them. Great watches. Exceptional build quality and the lugs really don't bother me. I actually want to get another Club Campus in the color you showed as an example.

Of these two options, the Lorier is easily the more versatile watch. It has a more subdued look overall. And while it draws from the past for inspiration, the resulting design can be worn with many styles of clothing and function at most normal levels of formality. The Nomos is cool, but its bright coloring and quirky style reduce its flexibility.

Here are some additional suggestions, from my own collection:

Serica 4512

Elegant field watch with a dressed-up finish.

Image

Casio Oceanus 🌊 T200

Sort of a leftfield option, but it melds sporty design with luxury-level surface treatments, solar charging, and an insane amount of stealth functionality.

Image

Citizen Promaster Tough

Robust but refined outdoors-oriented watch. Convenient solar power, accurate hands, highly legible dial. And while the bracelet is handsome, it cleans up even better on a leather strap.

Image

Traska Venturer GMT

Sporty/dressy looks and some fancy finishing add versatility to the baseline functionality of dual time (I'd actually argue this complication should be included in all proposed GADAs).

Image

Wise Adamascus

Highly versatile sports watch feel.

Get both :)

·

Nomos will show signs of wear but is durable and will be fine. Lorier has an acrylic crystal that when I owned one would get scratched by my shirt cuff, great watch but will definitely need to have the crystal buffed regularly

·

The Nomos is the better watch, personally bit a fan of California dials. But really like nomos in general.

·

The Sattelberg, Gun Smoke dial. Phenomenonal surface hardening, Miyota 9015...

I like the Nomos but the Falcon is just beautiful

·

The Lorier is way more attractive to me, but then again I’m an Explorer fanboy 😂

·

LOVE that Nomos! I would switch onto natos to hide the lug gaps. Also would get the display back to see that movement.

It'll always look great, even with scratches on the case.

·

I have a Club Campus Grey dial & it's a great watch to have in a collection. It looks great on a number of different strap colours & materials. I bought the Nomos bracelet for it also & on that it's a very smart dress watch too. Really good value for money watch.

·

I don't own either yet, (Planning on picking up a Nomos club). Personally I'd go with the Nomos. There's a better movement, more history and a beautiful classy design.

The Lorier is lovely also, and its styling may appeal to more people as a GADA watch. Though the Nomos is more appealing to me personally.

The Lorier is cheaper though, so id say if you don't love the Nomos, go for the Lorier.

I cannot recommend the Sinn 556 i (or something like that) enough. It’s everything you need in a watch, and not one you will ever feel out of place in… I’ve worn it through dodgey areas and to very high end events and was complimented on it on both ends of the spectrum.

Seriously though, it’s sporty, elegant, minimalist, and goes with just about everything… can’t recommend enough.

~$1000-1500. Perfect entry into the watch world for me. You’ll never need another watch, but that hasn’t stopped me 😝

·

The Lorier is nice indeed but I'm really voting against Nomos, especially in that odd color combination.

It’s definitely one I’ve thought about many times. Does it ever become boring though with such a utilitarian dial?
