Best Black Bay 58 Alternatives??

Love the look of the BB58 and I'm comfortable with the price point (especially on the second market). As I dive into possible next purchases, however, just wonder if there's any solid alternatives outside of the Pelagos 39 or Oris Sixty-Five. What do you think??

If you want a very similar vibe with a good regulated Swiss movement this is a good alternative. Should be out Sunday!

If you’re comfortable with the price point, get it. There are no substitutes if you’re able to buy it.

Good suggestion...

I’m biased as I own one but for the prices now there’s nothing as good (bezel, case profile, bracelet are all lights out). But there are a few that are great in their own right that are relatively close to the overall package.

  • Christopher Ward C60 Trident in 40mm is a damn good watch for the price.

  • Monta Oceanking. Great bezel and bracelet. Held it in Chicago last year and it’s a little too much submariner like but great watch.

  • Sinn U50. Very toolish but it’s incredible. The profile is better than a black bay.

  • Meraud. Small belgian company that just introduced their mark 2 diver recently and it looks to be great.

  • Had a Diver 65. Liked it but didn’t love it.

  • Longines Legend in the new 39mm case. Saw in person and it’s fantastic. Different styling with the super compressor internal bezel. But a true competitor.

A Baltic aquascaphe or Christopher ward C65 dune are very good alternatives under $1000

For a really budget option, consider the Invicta Pro Diver 1953. I had one for a short while and always thought if gave off BB58 vibes. So much so that I gifted the 1953 to a nephew not long after I got my BB58.

+1 for the LLD and U50. Also Doxa 300, possibly Seiko Willard Uemura, both iconic.

Hell yeah agree to those!

·

As someone said the Sinn U50

Is a better dive watch if that’s the purpose, plus it has an identity that certainly can’t be confused with the baggage of a Sub lol

·

You could try a Glycine. They run about 350$-600$ for their divers via jomashop. Or you could try a Zodiac superSeawolf

·

If you're looking for something similar to a black gilt BB58 without being direct clomages (like me), Glycine has 2 Combat Subs - the GL0484 in 42mm (available at Gnonom Watches) and the GL0401 in 39mm (at the European Glycine store online). There is also the GL0261 with its vintage style Arabic numerals.

Check out the Davosa Ternos Sixties. I have Rolex and have had a Tudor in the past and these pieces feel very substantial for the money

·

Longines sprite Zulu, they just released it in titanium as well. Monta Oceanking, rolex quality bracelet.

My clients that wear Tudor BB are happy and most are there gada.

·

Smiths PRS60 Commander

Not sure when the next timefactors sale is but there’s this one.

Great suggestions. Totally blanked on a seawolf

Great rundown of options. Thanks for that.

Think one point for me if I’m honest is it feels like BB58 would be the option everyone goes with. Something about that makes it feel a little less special maybe?

All great to know! I’m also super interested in the Pelagis 39, but it being so “tool watch” makes me wonder if it’d be as versatile as the BB58

A BB58 alternative makes me think re-issue. In addition to some good suggestions above:

Zodiac

And Rado come to mind.

Lorier or Baltic do that re-issue schtick well too I reckon.

I really rate the Certina DS PH200-m and 500m but they're a bit larger. Worth looking at if you have the wrist for it and / or like like a larger watch too.

·

I have both lol

https://shop.fratello.com/products/fratello-oris-divers-sixty-five

A limited edition that never really gained popularity, which I don’t quite understand. It is a bit spendy especially if you have to pay import taxes. You can also buy the diver 65 bracelet separate and it will fit

·

Omega Seamaster 300 Heritage model.

·

Maybe the Vulcain Nautique Skindiver

·

Longines Zulu Time

·

I am sure you have plenty of the options from others, but Orient Kamasu is one interesting option for under $300
