La Joux-Perret G101 Inaccuracy

Have an odd question would love help on.

Received my Farer Resolute (love it) and it was running with a surprisingly sharp accuracy. Over the last few weeks, however, it's gotten worse and worse. First, it was within range of +15secs/day. Now, I'll set it before I go to bed, wake up, and it's +2minutes by morning!

I wore it while working out a few times and often find myself bracing my head in my left hand while working. Would these different positions for long periods cause this level of inaccuracy? Any ideas and should I bring it to a watchmaker?

You should check if it got magnetized

·

And you can do it with your phone! Check out the 'magnetometer' app.

Will try! Is there a certain range to be looking for to confirm it was magnetized?

Innnteresting. Assuming a trip to a watchmaker can fix, or is it more detailed/serious work?

I had the same thing happen to my watch a few months back. First thing to look at if the hair aping on balance has been magnified. This was allow the oscillation to shorten thus gaining a lot of time. You can check this by using a directional compass. When you gently pass the compass across the top of your watch the hands may move/drift greatly that means the watch is magnified. If the hands move a little/none the watch is not magnetized. There are demagnetizers on the market that are not expensive that can resolve the issue. If issue continues the watch require regulation or service.

You'll certainly see it, just give it a try.

You can download the Physics Toolbox app and run the magnetometer

Then get a $10 degausser on Amazon and take care of it

Super helpful! Just picked one up.

Thanks to all of you! Love this community. Checked it with some mobile apps, and think it got magnetized.

Following @WhatsHisFace and @SpecKTator 's advice and picked up a demagnetizer from amazon. Hoping that resolves it and it doesn't need anything else. Thanks again, all!

Stick a Compass next to it. If the needle moves its magnetized. Buy a de-magnetizer on Amazon.

·

Hey you know lug pins usually are magnetized to.

·

If the degausser works, great. If not send it to Farer, sounds like it's still under warranty.

·

Get a cheap degausser, i need it regukarly.

Sounds like symptoms of magnitism. A watch maker can demagnetize it. If it doesnt improve then have it opened and checked. (If you feel like spending, you can also buy a demagnetizer yourself and youtube tutorials can teach you how to use it)

Keep your watches within 2 feet away from laptops, celphones, ipads, speakers, and actual magnets.

I believe some machinery also emit magnetic fields which could magnetize your watch. MRI machines (?) Also, i dont know if mechanical watches are shock absorbent enough for workouts. Maybe use a gshock or put down your watch during such activities.

Good luck and hope it gets restored. 😊

I just did, but whatever I place near my phone the graph is acting crazy. Are there any ranges to have in mind?

·

Forgive the ignorance and hijack, but can you get your watch magnetized by working all day on your ipad? Ipads and those magic keyboard cases have loads of magnets in them.

Plus +120 sec over 7-8 hour is crazy. I’ve been reading of this “magnetization” on WC, what are people exposing their watches to that it gets magnetized, especially the comments, “gets a cheap demagnetized from Amazon, I use it a lot”. Do they work at CERN?!

24 years wearing mechanical watches, never once.

·

Yup, as many of have here, sounds it movement got magnetized, it's an easy fix

·

If you have an old school compass, grab it and put it near your watch. If the needle moves as you get closer to the watch, there you go. Good luck!!!

·

I would absolutely demagnetize it. It’s showing all of the symptoms. Demagnetizer is inexpensive, available on Amazon if you don’t already own one.

·

Either magnetized or it has way too much lubrication on its parts!

It’s a lot easier these days to magnetize your watch when your phone has MagSafe or the Android equivalent.

Cor! There’s an app?
