What are the watches that will fit all wrist sizes ?

Hi Crunchers! I’m posting this question as I have a wrist size of 6.5” and would be categorised as a smaller wrist. Generally I wouldn’t buy any watch that’s above 40mm but the SKX007 does wear OK for my wrist despite it’s 42mm size. Maybe it’s due to the lug-to-lug measurements of the smaller dial face.

I’ve had similar size watches before but they wore like a clock on my wrist! 😅The SKX somehow is about to be wearable for the majority of wrist sizes whiteout looking odd. So I’m asking are there any other watches that fits almost all wrist sizes?

Please share your experience or recommendations 🙏. Have a great Friday and a better weekend ahead!

Many vintage watches are in the 34mm range and below.

Not a great picture, but this is a 34mm Vulcaine I believe from the 1950s.

·

Anything from 35mm to 42mm.

With some even bigger...looking at you Seiko Arnie.

I'd say the sweet spot is 40 mm L2L and 20mm lug width.

You can get away with larger if there are shorter lugs, or lugs that sweep more downwards.

My wrist is 6.25-6.5mm, and I have to be careful starting at 40mm. (Dimensions-wise, I think pretty much anyone can wear a 38-39mm watch, assuming the lugs aren't weirdly long.) I find that Seiko and Citizen both deserve their reputation for watches that wear smaller than measurements might suggest. I have multiple Citizens that look fine on me, despite being around 42mm. For example, I love wearing my 42mm Promaster Land World Time GMT, despite a lug length of over 47mm. My Nighthawk is slightly bigger than that in both dimensions, and it's all dial, but I feel like I can still pull it off. Even my Promaster Tough "explorer" style watch is really pushing it but still works on me, and at 42x50mm it actually does overhang my wrist slightly. Meanwhile, my Seiko 5 Land Shark has a 42mm case at the minimum (48.5mm lugs) with various crowns/guards pushing things out as far as 50mm, yet it doesn't overwhelm my wrist. Same goes for my Prospex Tuna, which has a 46mm case but only 45mm lugs.

Otherwise, my G-Shock squares and "CasiOak" models all fit me great, even though on paper they shouldn't at all. A huge number of Zelos watches are 40mm or below, and they tend to wear compactly anyway. Ditto much of the RZE lineup. Timex offers dozens of watches in the sub-40 range. And I recently bought a Wise Adamascus (41x47mm) that wears great; I'm looking forward to the 39mm model that's arriving in a few days.

I think that outside of the pure dimensions of a given watch, the styling and purpose have a lot of impact on how it wears. Those Seikos and Citizens are all clearly coded as tools, which makes their relative chunkiness more visually forgivable. And that goes double for a G-Shock!

Came here to say this. HKFA 38 is a winner for almost anyone.

·

I think no size will fit all because it depends so much and wristsize and shape, style and preference.

I agree, that watch wears well too. I have the mechanical 😉

·

Turtle! And so many colorways and options. 4R up to 8L caliber options. World is your oyster, with a turtle 🐢

Looks way too big, but fits better than most 40mm watches. I didn’t want one and then bought one the first time I tried it on, So good!. I’m a 6 wrist BTW, it’d be easy on a 6.5

Focus on lug to-lug. I also have a 6.5 wrist and tend not to go beyond 47, unless the lugs curve down nicely. For integrated bracelets you may have to go smaller depending on the watch.

·

I wear a Seiko Land Tortoise on my 6.5" wrist and it fits perfectly. Highly recommended watch that also comes in a variety of colours.

·

Depends on thickness too. I have a 43mm Seiko quartz chrono in titanium and it's like it's not even there. The 38mm SKX013 feels like a huge lump on my 7" wrist.

I have a 6,5 inch wrist and my 45mm turtle works perfectly fine. It’s all about the lug to lug length😊

·

I feel lug to lug is just as if not more important than diameter. My 38mm dress watch wears larger than my 39mm daily due to longer lugs and smaller bezel

Honestly there is no one size fits all imo

·

Keep it under 40mm you should be OK but be aware that some brands have long lugs: Longines, Nomos and Hamilton have some designs where the lugs add around a centimetre to the total length across the wrist which will create overhang for many wearers. If you can try in person, always do so, and if you can't, measure the top of your wrist so you know the maximum lug-to-lug distance you would be comfortable with. Most reviews include L2L measurements now, so you're flying less blind on watches you can't try before you buy.

Pocket watches - clue is in the name.

Personal preference plays too large a role to make any real predictions. No list of measurements will ever tell the whole story. I have tried on the Black Bay 58 more times than I can count. To my eye, on my wrist, it always looks super small. I own a GMT Master 1675 with basically the same measurements and it looks fine to me. I can't explain it. In my collection I have everything from a 35mm to 43.5mm. They all look right to me.

I have found that dial size plays a big part in how the brain perceives size on the wrist. A 42mm with a thin fixed bezel will look very large because of the big dial. The same watch with a rotating bezel will look smaller because of the smaller dial. Our brain focuses in on the dial and everything around it kind of fades into the background.

·

I have a 6/6.25 inch wrist and generally am more comfortable in the 38/40mm range but it really depends on wearability. I have an Oris Aquis 43.5 and it wears absolutely great.

It also depends on your overall figure. The watch is not just sitting on the wrist it complements the whole presence. Just looking at numbers doesn't say how well it fits your figure.

Totally agree with you!

Yet to try them on. The new ones have smaller case sizes I think

·

If you want cheap, the square shaped Vostok Amphibia has good wrist presence and fits smaller wrists. Others as follows:

Hamilton Pilot Pioneer Mechanical

Tudor Black Bay 54

Seiko 5 Sports - 38mm versions

Seiko Mini Turtle

All solid advice from the crunchers.

My 2 cents is be careful with just looking at specs. I’ve found that you really need to try it on to be sure.

My Bremont is all wrong on paper, but one of the most comfortable watches I own despite the numbers on the spec sheet saying otherwise.

·

Speaking only of what I know and own,

my Promaster Land PMD56 is an absolute winner. 39x45mm with curved lugs and flat caseback that makes it sit so perfectly on my 6.25/16.5cm wrist

Love them so muche thanks to how they fit my wrist. It becomes the main criteria for me now, even more than how a dial or a handset looks
