Has Shakira ruined Casio for all ??

My daughter got her first Casio a couple of years ago...and she never took it off...until this song from Shaquira exposing the romance between her husband footballer Pique, comparing herself to a Rolex, while the nanny, the culprit, with a Casio, being cheap. Now my daugheer (10yo) is embarrased to wear her Casio!

What do you think?🥺

I would never give a celebrity that much input into my life. Then again, I’m not 10. Also, it’s time to buy the kid a Rolex.

Celebrities are not part of the "normie" universe. I think the big issue here is your daughter is very smart to understand "cheating" to the point of not wanting to wear a Casio so I would watch/monitor her content very closely. I would probably explain to her how the Casio diss came out of anger and emotion vs Poor vs wealthy.

Pretty hard to convince a 10 yr old that she shouldn't be influenced by celebrities. Even a lot of adults are! I'm always amazed at people wanting watches worn by celebrities, even fictional ones like James Bond. What do I care what some movie prop-man chose, or worse yet, some company paid a fortune for some product placement? But I digress.😬 Get her something new and keep the peace. Maybe save the Casio for a while until she outgrows this phase, which could be as soon as a month from now. 😉

Not being a ten year old girl, I never heard of this and had to look it up.

I'm not actually going to listen to the song, but it's clearly a cope track, right? Like the old betrayed slag is all sour grapes because at least one man is choosing new flavors over her.

This is simple. You have to explain that Shakira is a post-menopausal woman desperately trying to hold on to younger men and failing. She can claim that the man is foolish, but who won the man in the end? Not the Rolex. Casio is the winner. Or just play this song.

Hey hold your casio up

My casio better than rolex

On my sweet brown nato strap

Neither flaky boy

Nor a fragile boy

Just a good comrade of delivery boy

I love him so bad

I want him in my bed (okay, this line is not really age appropriate, sorry)

Tell me when to go

Fold futon

"Ara-ara!"

Look at this boy

Perfect like his casio (x4)

My casio better than rolex

Get my boy more respect

From Tokyo 1983

I don't need any

I don't need any heavy chain on my wrist

Look at this boy

Perfect like my casio

Reminder Shakira is currently about to stand trial for a fourteen million tax fraud trial. Not a great person to look up to.

My son no care!

I don't know what you're talking about. There's no replacement for starting one's watch journey with anything other than a Kashio!

Maybe for her Quinceañeras an OP 34mm 😉

Celebrities and their music videos dissing their exes. Nothing new.

·

I've only heard about the song in passing, so I don't think we can say everyone as there's likely plenty of people like me who have never heard it, and have no interest in hearing it. Then, of the people who have heard it, probably a great many of them just chuckle and go on with their day. So it's likely only a small number of people - relative to all the Casio wearers in the world - who are really caring about it.

·

Get her an another Casio.

·

I'd tell my daughter to save up her allowance if she wanted a Rolex.

·

Well the latest on that saga is that Piqué secured a sponsorship deal with Casio for the Kings League that he started. So little kids are going to be seeing that Casio branding at all the matches and will be future generations of Casio buyers.

Sounds like a typical 10-year old to me.

Ironically, the presiding judge in the case is Ana Duro. 😎

My 11-year old daughter loves Casio. She doesn't have one yet, but her brother has like 5 Casios in his collection, and she loves looking at them. I asked her if she'd like a Duro for her birthday, and she said yes, and that she particularly likes the blue dial / blue bezel configuration, which I like to call "The Ocean." 😎 I let her try on my Pepsi bezel Duro, and she loved it. It's huge on her wrist, but she says that's "stylish and cute," so it looks like a done deal to me. 😎

Tell your daughter that Shakira is just a person, and her opinion about watches is hers alone; add to that the fact that her comparison of Casio to Rolex is one of petty elitism, and snobbishness. Tell your daughter to wear what SHE likes, and not to worry about what Shakira thinks. I'd bet good money that if you wrote Shakira a letter, telling her how her lyrics made your daughter feel embarrassed about her Casio watch, that she'd be quick to apologize. Shakira would not be the first person in history to say something mean and condescending without thinking about the consequences and repercussions.

·

I personally would say that your kid should not be under the influence of celebrities this much. I happily wear a Casio to college and no one has a problem. The problems are just some typical Shakira fan boys and fan girls. Casio is a world class watch making company and just remember that if u want long lasting battery in ur watch, use a Casio and not a Rolex.

Found this by Googling:

"How much a company is worth is typically represented by its market capitalization, or the current stock price multiplied by the number of shares outstanding. Casio Computer net worth as of February 17, 2023 is $2.47B."

Rolex, by contrast, has a net worth of $8.88B. But that makes Casio's net worth all the more impressive; Casio built their net worth on selling $50 units (average cost.) That means that there are millions more people wearing Casio on their wrist.

The two companies are giants in their own right, each positioned and established in the opposite end of the same consumer market.

Kick in the TV 📺….. msm is toxic ……. Just curate your children’s information as best you can … celebrities , if you die won’t mourn your death will they ? … this is what I used to tell my daughters ( both now 25 & 23 )
