How often do you use the chrono function in real life?

I very much appreciate the craftsmanship and other work that goes into chronograph watches, it just so happens that I'm not a chrono guy to the extent that I just don't use this function in real life (based on my experience owning a Omega Speedmaster).

Would love to hear how/when fellow WCers use the chronograph function in real life.

very often about and not only the chrono but also the diver's time bezel for cooking, for taking medicine, when watching soccer

·

Unnecessarily timing food while cooking like a standard watch dork to justify owning a chronograph 🤓. Also as part of my job working with kids with autism I have to track behavioral patterns and time elapsed between certain behavioral occurrences ⌚️

·

The way I see it chronographs are useful for timing non-critical events/tasks on the fly. By this I mean things where going over the alloted time doesn't have significant repercussions.

For example, I've got a newborn and to avoid him getting reflux we keep him upright for 30 minutes after each feed. Using a chrono ensure I can start a timer quickly and check it easily, and it doesn't matter if I keep him upright for 35 or 40 minutes instead of 30. I also used it a while back to make sure I didn't take medication within 2 hours of a meal, since again it didn't matter if I went over 2 hours, but it was helpful to check how long had passed at a glance.

I personally don’t use the function much but every once in a while it comes in handy. But this thinking can be applied to many other items. Do you take your sports car racing? Do you dive because you own a dive watch?

·

Activate to make sure it still works, reset and forget.

·

This is a trick question, right?

·

I'm the same, I've come to love the style of chronograph watches, but don't use the function. No different than those that like diver watches, and never go into the water. All just personal preference.

Ever since I heard people say: "chronograph timer could shorten the period between watch maintenance". I stopped using the function.

I use timer on my Apple Watch though, and my quartz chronographs

I am a climbing coach for kids and I use my chronographs fairly often to time drills and other workouts in practice. I also time my own climbing drills with it. Very useful!

·

I like the looks of chronographs mainly ... own four of them, but don't use the functions. Same goes for my three dive watches ... desk divers all, so no bezel action required! 😎

·

Pretty much never.

·

I always use it for fun, usually to time certain tasks to see how long it would take to finish

·

Walking the dog. Timing how long it takes to walk to work. All out of curiosity.

Every time I sit on this 👇🏻

Rarely with my Carerra, more so with the G Shock.

I commend you in the work you do. That line of work is a must and amazing - An angel sent from heaven! ❤️

You're far too kind. Thank you so much for the acknowledgement ❤️😊

For sexy time. My records 7 seconds 💪🏻

·

Every time I put one on, just to see the tiny hand going around.

I had a quartz chrono for years. Admired the looks, but never used it. Now that I'm into mechanical watches, I really love a chrono's looks and the mechanical genius and ingenuity in the most complex ones, like the El Primero (amazing timepiece - could watch videos on the movement all day), but could never justify paying so much for something I would never be able to utilize. A 3-hander automatic/mechanical is much more utilitous while being arm decoration - it's giving me the time at a glance. But the chrono is much less user-friendly than grabbing the cell phone and using the stop-watch function. Also, the subdials are almost illegible to my aging eyes without my reading glasses . . . so, there's that.

Do you have a high brat that measures down to the 1/10th second? At times it feels like that might be needed for that use case.

Lmfao yeah exactly especially last month.... I bought 3 watches

Gorgeous.

350F?

Motor has been switched to 400f

·

On a G-Shock I use the chronograph whenever I cook as it is my timer for the oven/pan. On an analogue watch, never!

·

If I am wearing one I find myself using it...

·

All the time, especially for cooking. If I don’t have it on cooking, I’ll sometimes change my watch.

I think we are on the same page. I like the looks of many chrono watches but I know for a fact that I just won't be using the chrono function practically in real life hence hard to justify the extra money paid.

Hi 5 from another desk diver 👋🏻

·

To tell the truth, almost never.

·

I use it many times during my workdays, when a chrono with central minute hand is a must for me: unbeatable readability. When I wear other watches without the central minute hand I tend not to use the chrono complication: I find them harder to read an a less effective tool.

I use the chrono function to time how long it takes my wife to head out the front door after she tells me she is ready. Sometimes she becomes so annoyed with my habit that she refuses to talk with me, I time the duration of her silence also. Oddly she recently etransferred a generous amount into my whimsical checking account towards another watch.

Let me follow your acts and get back to you on whether I have any luck getting any money from my wife.

Haha! Let me tell you a few lousy dollars for another watch is not worth it! Since covid my wife and so many people who still work the getting and spending do it from home. My work as a small office architect, self employed pushed me into semi retirement at the beck and call of a loving demanding partner. I am short order cook, maintenance guy and increasingly have to listen to my wife rant about her staff and senior bosses. I refused the bribe and return the money, haha. She ventured into insult recently when she suggested I buy a Rolex again. It is Saturday morning but I thought it was Friday. Have a great weekend.
