Just before the pandemic I decided that I wanted to buy a nice watch. I’ve been very successful/lucky in life and felt I deserved it. Only had a few weeks before the shutdown so it didn’t happen. Two years later I finally embarked on a shopping adventure. I knew next to nothing about watches, but looked at all the luxury brands and narrowed it down to a VC or Patek. They were actually available back then. Ended up buying this Patek. I have bought a number of others since then but this holds a special place.
Absolutely. If you look at the prices compared to similar complications in wristwatches, you can get some crazy things for a fraction of the price. I just saw a 1916 Patek Philippe minute repeater sold this week in Hong Kong for $21,000. I know that’s a lot, but you’re talking upper six figures for a minute repeater from Patek in a wristwatch.

Interesting comment on the state of the watch industry. The VC boutique in Chicago has been reaching out to me for about 3 years. Always used watches, but they know I mostly own Patek. The Overseas has been off the table for discussions. Only reserved for their “best” customers. Three days ago I got an email that this watch was available, and I have no prior purchase history. Passed because it wasn’t on my radar, and of course I don’t have a spare $60,000 laying around.
