What was your first mechanical watch?

I've been collecting since 2020 where I started with a gshock (GWM5610) but where my collecting journey really started was when I pulled the trigger and bought my first mechanical/automatic watch - Hamilton's Khaki Field Automatic 38mm.

I'm curious, what was your first mechanical timepiece? ๐Ÿ™ƒ

A Timex near the end of Nixon Administration. I had exclusively quartz in the 1980's until about 1995.

Like many mine was the Seiko SKX. Sold it about three years ago and for some reason I still think about it...

Mine was a Seiko "Mini Monster" which I eventually sold to get the regular Monster.

I had a small manual wind watch as a boy in c1978. ย Since then the first mechanical watch was my dad's old Movado 1940 pilots watch that he gave me in 1990.

Lots of patina, when I had it serviced last year I had to strictly tell them to deal with mechanicals but not to polish the case or refurbish the dial. ย For context 33mm on a 7" wrist

I started collecting in late 2018 with a Rolex OP36. When I bought it, I had no interest in collecting - it was intended to be my only watch. I made the "mistake" of joining a local watch enthusiasts group, which ended up fueling my interest in watches, and changing me from a watch enthusiast to a watch collector.

My first was a SNK809... I hated it and upgraded to a Hamilton "Interstellar" within a couple of weeks.ย

So while the Seiko might have been my first, my Interstellar is the first mechanical watch that made me actually appreciate mechanical watches.ย

A 4205-015B, medium Seiko diver gifted to me by my father when I was in grade school. It was stolen at our house by someone. My father then handed his daily 4205 in pepsi bezel when he retired and now my son is wearing it.ย

Thank you!

really fun post that brings me back to when this crazy hobbi started. ย  ย  was considering the Hamilton myself but there are no ADโ€™s were i live.

A mid-size Omega Seamaster. Also my first mistake. I thought the 41mm was too large. I ended up buying it later!

ยท

Hamilton Auto Cal Patriot was my first mechanical piece.

This Seiko 5 SRPD55K1 was my first mechanical watch, a true gateway drug. Got it right as it was released in 2019. Then got deeper and deeper into the hobby during the pandemic!

I almost started with that one but opted for the hammy. Great watch tho! Love the strap on it ๐Ÿ˜

First mechanical watch that I purchased was in 2006, a #victorinox Chronopro with a #valjoux 7750 that I bought used on eBay for about $400, which was a lot of money for me. They were around $1200 new. It still runs within 2 seconds a day and finds a place in my rotation.ย

Damn that's nice, great first watch!

I don't have a photo but my dad gave me his gold 1969 Seamaster when I was 19 as he isn't into watches. Suffice it to say, 2 years later, my then girlfriend "appropriated" it while she stayed at my parents while I was overseas. The memory of that beautiful watch has merged with the countless 1969 Seamasters I have sean online during the years of searching to find it again.

It was fun when I was 6 years old, and fun now I'm 70 :-)ย

Seiko SARB017 aka the Alpinist with the green sunburst dial. That was in 2016(ish). I had many watches coming in and out but this one never left and never will
