New member! Controversial question?

I recently began my watch collection journey, however, I have not purchased anything outside of my budget. My favorite piece is my Casio Duro, now you get the idea. I was curious about what folks here think about the watch brand, Invicta? what is their reputation in the watch community? are they any good? (except for those that are massive)

This is a frequently asked question. The answer is...most think their basic pro diver with the nh35 movement is decent for the price. To be honest, it's hard to screw up any watch with an nh35. And in my opinion,  the quartz option is not really any better than your Duro. The Duro many be better even.

With all that said, no one will openly judge you no matter what you buy. Everyone has their opinions. Who cares. Get what you like. That's what is great about watches. No one will like the same watches. Each collection is personal to the owner.

I had an Invicta pro diver with the NH 35 for years and it was a good watch. After several years it started losing time and instead of servicing it I just passed it along to someone else. @Polishmadman is right. Get what you love. That Duro is a fantastic watch. I had one until my daughter stole it (yes she like a 44 mm watch). If you are looking at an Invicta Pro Diver, I would recommend saving just a little more money and look at Orient. They are well built, in house movement, and will likely last longer and be tougher than the Invicta.

I have both an Invicta Pro Diver and a Duro. I didn’t like the hand-me-down Invicta until I popped off the cyclops and ground off the “Invicta“ on the side and bought a new strap, but now I love it. It survived some tough treatment before coming my way and is still performing well. I also love the Duro.

@RobertWood is right that if you’re contemplating a buy and you’re not in love with the Invicta, there are other watches for just a little more cash that might be higher quality. But if you love the Invicta, then by all means enjoy!

I own 2 Invicta's. I beat the hell out of a diver chronograph and it's retired. The other is a Pro Diver Submariner homage I still wear occasionally. Good watches for the price paid, ~$80 each.

The hate for Invicta stems from 2 things.

The overly gaudy watches and their over-inflated & fake RRP/discounted pricing strategy. Most watch enthusiasts prefer more conservative watch designs.

There are watches in similar price points that might be better watches and a better value.

That said, if you want to buy & wear any of their pieces, that's your choice and no one should judge you for it. We all have to go on our own journeys.

I think you do your research, understand what you're buying (movement, materials, accuracy, etc) and the alternative options for the price, and go with your gut/heart. I generally compare against Seiko for a value comparison.

·

You love or like it and it meets your expectations then buy it. Don't worry about others (snobs).

Wear it, love it, enjoy it!

Cheers!

PS Invicta does have a great watch making past.

I dont Like the engraving on the side of the case one bit but for $100 or so they’re pretty acceptable. A buddy of mine wears one almost every day and loves it, and it looks very nice.

My first Invicta was a Quartz Pro Diver Chronograph that my brother gave me as a birthday present in 2016. I still wear it regularly. My second is a vintage inspired VD64 quartz that I bought myself just last year. 45mm diameter is about as big as I can go and it is 45 mm. I like it because the gold sunburst dial looks cool. Get what you like. Wear what you like. Don't let anyone dictate to you what you're supposed to like.

·

The Duro was my first purchase after going down the rabbit hole, and an Invicta "1953" version of the Pro Diver was my second... both are great value for money watches and I'd be happy if either was my only watch 👍

I came to say I like your handle but I originally read it as Watch-acho 😂

As far as your question, I say wear what you like and don’t get caught up on what other’s think… especially right now as you‘re just starting out. Invicta has a bad reputation in the enthusiast community for the reasons the folks above have already mentioned. I’ll share my experience with them - you can do with it what you will.

I bought an Invicta like 14-15 years ago on Amazon on a whim before I even identified as an enthusiast. I recall just wanting a nice watch and with no reference to what that actually was, I used Amazon’s filters to sort by my price range and ratings… ya know, real scientific-like! This led me to the 8926 which people were constantly comparing it to a Rolex in the reviews, so I remember feeling pretty confident this was must be a nice watch because Rolex equals good, right?! Again, super-scientific!… PLUS it was on sale (of course). I didn’t even realize what I bought was an automatic watch until it arrived. The 8926 open the door to this stupid world and I wore it around proudly for several years. I will always have a bit of a soft spot for it… even if it’s just knocking around in a drawer somewhere now.

So, if you can look past the brand it’s a fine watch in my opinion. Having said that, 15 years ago we didn’t have this explosion of microbrands and Chinese manufacturers to choose from. I would imagine there are so many watches at the Invicta price point that are finished equally as well (or better possibly) that don’t have the loaded baggage of the Invicta brand. You may even find some that are far more interesting from a design standpoint than the submariner clones. Just my two cents - good luck on the journey ahead!

People have their opinions about Invicta, some like some don't. But Invicta Pro diver is watch that quite popular and well liked. Sometimes you can get it in very low price. I got mine 67 euros total (including postage and taxes). That's great price for a watch with nh35 movement.

There are a few Invicta pieces lurking about in my home from years of collecting. I see the pros and cons discussed a lot. As many have said, if you like a watch wear it. One great thing about Watch Crunch is how much people enjoy the vibe of someone posting their new watch. So many people chime in with positive congratulations because this site is about the love of collecting.  Why do I write all this? There are plenty of Invicta owners and hater son WC but they will almost always congratulate you on a watch you love

First off welcome to the WatchCrunch! The Duro is a great watch! You're going to find the Invicta brand has a Love Hate following. I personally think there's nothing wrong with some of the watches they make. I have 5 of them, Everyone complains that they only make Giant Over designed watches. But they make some pretty cool watches as well.

You just need to follow your heart and personal taste. Don't be persuaded away from a watch by someone else's opinion about what looks right.
