I'm struggling to find a good alternative on the lower price point, reputable brand, good markers and hands, finishing and case design. And yes I know I can't expect rolex quality for no money, but around a 1000 Christopher ward have the c63 sealander with a black dial and similar design, automatic, but it's 36mm ๐ต๐ต๐ต
Rules are simple:
Around 500 dollars(but below a 1000 if it's that good)
It has to be between 38 - 41 mm
Metal bracelet
Black dail
(If possible automatic)

#christopherward has a 39mm version of the Sealander Automatic with two different metal bracelets to choose from. SW200 automatical movement and a great warranty.
Mine is the blue dial but it's available in black.
Traska Commuter 38 is your best option for an OP alternative. $635 new!
Lorier Falcon S3 would be my recommendation for an Explorer alternative although there are many.
I'm on the hunt for the same thing!
What about a Tissot Gentleman?
What about a Tissot Gentleman?
I actually thought about it and it's a good choice!
It's 36mm but don't worry it wears great for any wrist.
Obvious choice is the Smiths Everest PRS25. Timefactors just had their sale but another one will be up soon.
Try the Bernhardt Anchor I picked this up around last year donโt remember what I paid but I know it was under $300 from their website.
Traska commuter. Has pretty much everything you want at a reasonable price.
What size and price?
Tusenรถ Windseeker could also be an option
Next question please
Seiko Mod โ 36mm explorer build (someone else had same idea, not me).https://watchandstyle.net/blogs/articles/seiko-explorer-the-ultimate-rolex-alternative
But the bracelet sucks imho. If youโre a strap guy just go for it. If you want a bracelet go for titanium one or maybe a tissot gentleman
The Orion Hellcat
Hello my shirtless friend.
There are few possibilities.
Wise Adamascus
Gigandet Evermatic
Steinhart Ocean 39
Tissot Gentleman
Choose wisely ๐

Maritime themed goodness.
So weird no post about the Nivada Super Antartic. It has heritage, design and quality.

I personally love the look of the NSA.
Islander Manhasset for the Explorer 36, Islander Brookville for the OP. Nice watches, very friendly guy behind the brand and really good prices.
Marc Frankel, great guy indeed.
I was looking up alternatives for the OP not too long ago, and the three that I found were
Wise Adamascus AD series (it's marketed as a women's watch but it's really unisex, uses the same type steel Rolex uses and comes in a lot of colors, there's also a meteor dial option if you want it to be a little more different)
Traska Commuter (less color options than the Wise, but has more size options)
Monta Noble (the most expensive of the three, but still quite beautiful)
Of the three, I would probably go for Wise personally but the other two look quite fantastic. As for the explorer, I didn't research it but the closest I could find is the Lorier Falcon but that's in preorder as far as I know.
The Tissot Gentleman seems to tick all the boxes you described for an OP style:
On the more Explorer end of the spectrum, I I just picked up this Longines Conquest in 39mm. Itโs closer to $1k and a bit hard to find the 39mm, but they do make a 41mm and thereโs some quartz models at around the $500 price point too. Really been enjoying this one.

I second the Traska Commuter suggestion. The finishing is superb and the coating makes it look like you just got it brand new from the shop
I chose the Steinhart 39 Adventure on a jubilee and I absolutely love it!!
Longines quartz
I bet a 36 would look pretty good on a 16cm wristโฆ but thatโs for you to decide.

Totally agree actually. I tried 36mm watches, but depends on lug to lug...
I bought a Steinhart as a test before I went for an Explorer.
