Have you ever sold your grail?

Have you ever sold your grail watch or what you thought was your be-all end-all?

I only ask this because I recently sold my Rolex “Bluesy”, what I thought was my endgame watch. After convincing the wife that this purchase would end my watch journey, I sold almost my entire collection to aquire this piece. However, I still found myself browsing watches and inevitably started to aquire a few pieces again haha oops 🤡.

Even if my life depended on it, there’s absolutely zero chance I could ever be a one watch guy. There are so many watches out there that I still want to experience owning but having this expensive grail prevented me from doing so. So I sold it and went on a buying spree as of late. Anyways long story short, I realized I have a problem and probably need therapy and by therapy I mean more watches.

Just forget about the concept of "grail" watches and life will be much more easier (imo) 😄

·

Very early on a made the wise decision to have a true grail watch. One that like the grail is unattainable. I therefore do not and will never have this problem. 😁

·

Not sold any grails yet. In fact I never sold a watch.I have done trade in and I have given away watches. Fortunately I been lucky this far that most of my watches I lusted for has been to my appreciation. If a ”grail ” turned out to be a miss instead of a hit I would have no problem to sell it. Normally those watches acculumate to much of the watch funds.

·

All of my watches were grails at one time or another. Otherwise I never would have bought them.

·

I am down to 4 and I'm finding it really hard to stop buying more. However the benchmark of the 4 I have are set so high that none of the cheap thrills work.

·

Only to get another grail.. like Aqua Terra for DJ or Seamaster for OP

·

Grails don’t exist.

I don’t have grails anymore, but when I was starting out in this hobby I certainly did. I’ve sold every grail I ever bought. No regrets from me as I enjoy the watches I have now way more. Also, the people talking about an exit watch the other day need to read this thread lol OP, your thoughts are the same as mine. I could never, ever have just 1 watch. I like watches way too much to only have 1. I need variety.

Holy grail and selling is a contradiction of terms 😊😊😊

·

I collect, I don’t swap watches. Forget about grail watches they don’t exist, it’s human nature, we are too fickle to make anything the end game and then stick to it

·

Yes. Numerous times… life is about adaptation and moving on…

·

Did you ever wear the Sub?!?!

·

One watch guy what! You're no cave man and you deserve better! If you want I'll tell your wife for you.....but I might need you to talk to my wife in the near future 🤣

Did you ever wear the Sub?!?!

Yep wore it everywhere lol.

·

The only watch I ever regret getting rid of was my 114270 Explorer, traded it in with cash for something else. Loved the explorer but the links on that model’s bracelet just didn’t fit me right :(

Should have tried to go for a 14270 instead

·

I’ve never sold a watch. Gifted some to the family. Seems I am a rare bird in that I enjoy almost all of my collection. Always looking to find the next piece.

·

I can totally relate.

·

I also have the Bluesy and this Blue two tone Subby. I sold the two tone as I fell out of love with gold watches and gold jewellery all together. But now I'm drooling and lustying over the all gold Rolex Day Date Presidential Tony Soprano. I just may pull the trigger on Tony if I find the right one. Do you brother! Rock what you LOVE ... Buy what you can afford 🍻👊🏽

My GMT-Master II “Superman” would like to have a word with you about that! 😝🙃😅

·

Good post!

Be thankful for the time and experience with it. Now enjoy what’s next.

Let’s see what happens when a gold Daytona with a meteorite dial comes your way 😂😂😂

You're absolutely right, DH! However, a gold Daytona with a meteorite dial was just discontinued last year. Who knows, though? With Rolex, the possibility of a new iteration under a fresh reference is always on the table. They're full of surprises, and I'm here for it—ready to pounce on the next chance-if my AD allows me the opportunity!

I sold my once grail Breguet Tradition 7097. I lost quite a bit of weight during pandemic (in a healthy way) and my wrist lost all the fat around it, making 7097 and some others just too large. While I don’t regret losing weight I miss the watch🥲

·

Forget the Rolex. You will get much more enjoyment from a bunch of Sinns, Traskas and Citizens

·

I've never even SEEN my grail in real life.

·

Funny, cause I think of the bluesy as my grail watch…😂
