Am i the only one having hard time reading watches

I need numbers!!!! All these hour markers look the same and unless you stare ar your watch for like 5 seconds i cant read these. Am I the only one or does everyone else have this issue but just wears it anyways?

That dial does not help legibility, unfortunately.

·

I too struggle to read analog watches, both with and without numbers, but the more I wear them, the easier it is i guess.

·

I also have a presage and it can be a little tricky to read sometimes, but that is the price you pay for such a dial. In my opinion, it is worth it.

·

I feel the same way. I’ve found I have a preference for numbered dials. Just easier to tell time with a quick glance.

Watches like Longines Spirit 37mm, Farer, anything with applied or printed numbers are good.

Do you have any recos for somethhing cheaper like sub 1k?

Some dial/hand combinations are difficult, but I've never found it difficult to read the clock positions. Today's just has the four ordinals and I can just glance and read it. Most of mine are markers only. Maybe it's because I've never worn a digital.

·

Maybe try a flieger! Very easy to read and simple.

I have the same pilot's clock!!!

No, no problem. Growing up this is how we read time. It’s kinda automatic when I glance down at my watch.

Farer resolute (also comes in white dial) legibility, color, and lume are amazing!

Some watches are harder to read than others, yes. But I find in most scenarios, I already know what time it is... it's there on my PC screen, it's there on my car console, it's there on my phone, etc. When I'm looking at my watch, it's more to admire the look of this jewelry, for want of a better term, on my wrist. And if it's a rare occasion where I'm needing to read the time, if it takes an extra second or two, it's not that big a deal cos I'm seldom doing it.

·

No, same. I need at least 4 numbers (3,6,9,12) and read much faster with all numbers.

You could try some Flieger Seiko 5 ⌚.

Alternatively, you can try the 🇯🇵 microbrand from Kyoto known as Kuoe. Miyota movements and vintage inspired dials.

·

Naw, not really a problem to me.

·

It’s just about knowing the position of the hands on the dial. Once that’s memorized you can look at most any watch and tell the time in a second or less.

I have no issue reading the time on watches that don't have written numerals. I thought we all learnt that in 1st grade

Apparently they don’t teach that to the youth anymore. My youngest brother’s girlfriend is 20 and she can’t read an analog clock, even with numbers on it.

This is true. They don't teach this anymore. There are a million things they could teach in school that are more practical than the things they do, but don't get me started.

I have zero issues reading a watch unless the dial is cluttered with sub dials and such.

Agreed!!

39 mm and I have a 5.5 in wrist. This is a Laco Speyer.

Looks good! It seems to me that one can get away with a much larger diameter flieger B than one would normally be able to with other watch types. Partly, fliegers are just supposed to be big. Partly, the inner hours on the B dial break it up.

·

Not a concern for me because this watch has a purpose beyond legibility, elegance. Big hands and big numbers will never have that. Enjoy the cocktail time next time you go out on that special evening with your spouse.

·

My grandfather used to say that we don't look at our watch to tell time but instead to know where we are in the day. I think that's true. If you asked me what time it was after I looked at my watch I couldn't tell you most of the time.

·

As long as not ALL 12 indices are exactly the same, I can read it just fine. I prefer that at least 12, 3, 6, and 9 are delineated. To my eye, only 3 is set apart in your example.

·

It is not the numbers for me, in my case it is seeing the hands. Two of my watches in particular - both white dials with multiple hands. My opaline colored Tudor GMT and Omega Speedmaster with the date hand - I have issues seeing the time in certain light. With the GMT I have issues differentiating the GMT hand from the minute hand, and on the Speedmaster I have trouble differentiating the date, chrono and minute hands. My fading vision does not help matters. Putting on my glasses helps!

·

For me (and my lousy 👀) it’s not about numbers vs indices, its whether the whole dial is legible. I find my Formex Essence very legible

I learned to tell the time before I even learned to tie my shoes. Why can't anybody read a watch anymore? Its 1 to 12. Not like the order is going to change.

No one said people cantread a clock, theyre saying some watches are harder to read and some watches are asier to read

If you can’t read a clock that doesn’t have numbers on it. Then you can’t read a clock.
